What song are you listening to?

I think one of the simplest love songs ever written: And one of the most beautiful. Wichita Lineman
https://youtu.be/9q20Hj4FWbc

I am a lineman for the county
And I drive the main road
Searchin' in the sun for another overload
I hear you singin' in the wire
I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

I know I need a small vacation
But it don't look like rain
And if it snows that stretch down south
Won't ever stand the strain
And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

The current Lincoln Center revival of "The King & I." I love that this recording has the entire "Small House of Uncle Thomas" ballet music! We saw the revival 3 weeks ago, and it was magnificent (love Kelli O'Hara, etc., etc., etc.) :encore:

Different this week!!!!! Still listening to all of American Top 40 - the 70's because they are doing 1971. (I switch over to Breakfast with the Beatles at 8 when they do later 70's years.)

So "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" - Cher. #2 song approximately this date in 1971.

Wait, here comes #1...... Shaft by Isaac Hayes.

Had to come back - since this thread is titled Music When We Were Young - "I Want to Hold Your Hand" (Breakfast with the Beatles). My FIRST record (with the flip side "I Saw Her Standing There"). Preschool - we went from Poky Little Puppy to Beatles overnight! The 45 came in a sleeve with their pictures on it. It got so torn and dirty from me carrying it around my mom THREW IT AWAY!!!! Dang! Still have the record in another sleeve though.

Vanessa begins a guest-starring stint on The Good Wife tonight. Until then, I'll pick some non-hit singles from Ms. Williams...that should have been hits!

Vanessa Williams - Happiness

(Now honestly, try listening to that and not start moving around in your chair!!)

And here's a nice cover of The Stylistics:

Vanessa Williams - You Are Everything
Just saw this! Love those two songs, and I've been listening to Vanessa Williams' Christmas album, Star Bright

I purchased the album when she first came out with it in the 90's. She also had a Christmas special that year which included guests Shania Twain and Luther Vandross. I'm so glad I recorded it to a VHS tape. I always watch it during the holidays.

:angryfire So if you have "one of those days" when someone really irritates you or just generally a bad day what is your playlist? I just want to rock. Yesterday I happened to hear Pink's "U + Ur Hand" and that fit the bill. "I'm not here for your entertainment, You don't really want to mess with me tonight..."

Last Christmas my husband gave me Lindsey Sterling's CD, which I have for the most part kept at the bookstore and have been playing it on our super cheap crappy walmart clearance special CD player and speakers. Since we are only allowed to play Christmas music now, I took it and threw it into my car stereo, which is a Bose, with about 17 speakers and OMG now I am able to fully hear all the intricacies of the music!! And you should see me dancing in my seat while driving - Wheeeeeee!! I am playing it over and over and over.....:D

I have also, after much research, ordered a pair of Sennheiser HD 598 headphones. Amazon had a Black Friday sale that was too good for me to ignore, and so, yay! Merry early Christmas to me!
Now I should try to do my shopping for other people. :shuffle:

I had to go to page three to find this thread -

Act Naturally (listening to Breakfast with You-Know-Who)

I've been in the mood for Heart today. I'm listening to my Dreamboat Annie Album.

The song playing at the moment is How Deep It Goes. I've always loved Ann and Nancy. I remember the year I attended their concert, John Cougar (John Mellencamp) toured with them when he came out with the hit song, Hurt So Good.

I went with three of my close friends (Patricia, Melanie and Cindy) to that concert. I brought my binoculars because we were up in the balcony section at the Hirsch Memorial Coliseum which is located on the fair grounds in Shreveport.

When John Cougar began singing Hurt So Good, Patricia started screaming, grabbed my binoculars from my hands while the neck strap was still around my neck. I was screaming for her to let go because the neck strap was literally choking me. Melanie and Cindy had to practically fight with Patricia to get the binoculars away from her and the strap left a very red mark around my neck!

It was a very long time before I ever went to another concert with Patricia. When I finally did go with her again, I left the binoculars at the house because we were going to see Kiss. She was in love with all of the members of the band, and I didn't wish to see a repeat of her grabbing for my binoculars! :scream:

Today, I'm listening to Heat Wave from Linda Ronstadt's Greatest Hits album. There's actually 2 older greatest hit albums (1 and 2) and I have both.

I always loved Linda's voice. I loved it when Linda and Aron Neville sang duet to Don't Know Much and All My Life.

It was a sad day when Linda could no longer sing because of Parkinson's disease. I really miss her singing. I know she would probably be singing right now because she loved it so much. I'm just thankful for all the wonderful music that she was able to share through the years. :)

The local CBC has been running a bit for the past few weeks to find "the one Canadian song every Canadian should know." And be able to sing at least part of. They've got it down to a shortlist of three:

~ Four Strong Winds -- Ian and Sylvia
~ Home for a Rest -- Spirit of the West
~ Northwest Passage -- Stan Rogers

Of those three it's no contest for me. "Four Strong Winds" is lovely but too melancholy. "Northwest Passage" is fantastic and quintessentially Canadian, but not really a sing-along song. "Home for a Rest," OTH is great for pub singing, and dancing like no one is watching.

I am surprised some more obvious contenders didn't make the shortlist though. Like "The Good Ol Hockey Game." Or "The Canadian Railroad Trilogy."

My first choice would have been "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" !

Yellow Submarine. I had that 45 in grade school.

They played BLUEbird earlier. I completely forgot that is one of my favorite Wings song, along with Junk, which they never play on here. Maybe I should request it, but it would have to be after 10 a.m. and American Top 40 - The Seventies is over.
