Valieva Banned for Four Years, Effective December 25, 2021

We're talking about the men only who competed in the last few decades, obviously. For some weird reason some of you are really mad at the fact that Hanyu is the only male two-time individual OGM since the 1950s and this will remain so for a long while.

Fanyus are silent yet some of you here on FSU keep bring him up every time. Is figure skating so boring nowadays that you have to constantly bring up Hanyu and his fans? I wonder.
I thought it was a matter of Hanyu's greatness of character that he was disappointed in his Sochi win?

Can't really disagree with him on that. Maybe "fanyus" should adopt that particular thought. Some achievements are worthless, unless we want to pretend Sotnikova accomplished something real at those same Olympics.

For what it's worth, Dick Button also achieved this, as did Karl Schaefer. Gillis Grafstrom won 3 golds and 1 bronze. Sonja Henie did it three times in singles' skating. Katarina Witt did it twice. Irina Rodnina did it 3 times in pairs. Grishuk & Platov and Virtue & Moir did it 2 times in dance, and so on. Virtue & Moir have 5 Olympic medals overall. So yeah, it's plenty comparable to other people.
I interpreted @Arrows' post as "this is what Fanyus will say" without offering an opinion of their own.

How do you know it will be a long time? Are you psychic? If so then maybe give us some lottery numbers, that would be a more useful contribution to the discussion.

He was disappointed with his free skate but he still skated two flawless short programs, one of them was a world record and won the gold medal overall. At his first Olympics at age 19. He doesn't highlight these because he's not that type of person. It's not a worthless achievement however hard you want to belittle his success every time you open your mouth about him.

No one said it was a worthless achievement. The issue is that Nathan's equally impressive achievement is unjustifiably and obsessively belittled by the Fanyus.

And so the reason his fans lack any sense of the same sportsmanship is what exactly?

You do realise people were making fun of fanyus not hanyu himself? Or is that beyond you?

Nothing because Nathan Chen is not a two-time individual gold medalist unlike Yuzuru Hanyu whose achievement is still incomparable to anyone else's.
Aww, look at you comparing the seemingly incomparable.

Christine Brennan's latest article:

U.S. Anti-Doping Agency CEO Travis Tygart told USA TODAY Sports Tuesday in a text message: “The Team Event is made up of all the disciplines and there is no specific Team Event rule on this issue that we are aware of, so the discipline rule should apply.”

Tygart added, “It’s nonsensical for Valieva to get four years and Russia keep Olympic bronze. The fair and just outcome is for the specific discipline rules to apply and Canada get the bronze.”

It was you in this thread who started to compare Chen's 2OGM to Hanyu's and laughing about how fanyus will react. No one belittles Chen's achievement but winning a team gold medal is not equal to winning an individual gold medal in this sport and anyone who follows figure skating knows that.

And so the reason his fans lack any sense of the same sportsmanship is what exactly?

Don't talk about his fans as a monolit. He has millions of fans coming from around the world with different cultures and backgrounds and opinions. Maybe you don't agree with many of them, that's fine. But don't make fun of them as a whole. You (and others on this forum) also hate on Hanyu as a skater and as a person so many times and you still do years after he retired as a competitior. I repeat, perhaps competitions and other skaters are too boring to talk about.

You should totally make a new thread defending Hanyu's honor it will be very popular and fun and then we can go back to mocking the ISU in this thread without getting sidetracked

we have enough love/hate to go around i promise

I'm sure there's a Yuzuru Hanyu fan thread over in The Trash Can. Please go blather on in there rather than derailing this discussion any further. We've got more than enough snark about whiny Russians without adding whiny Fanyus to the mix in this thread.

No, thanks, no need for a new thread. Some posters already started to belittle Hanyu's achievements and make fun of fanyus so the replies to them should be in this thread, not somewhere else. Everything would be easier if Hanyu wasn't living rent free in some posters' minds. ;)

Moskvina's statement.

Moskvina about the Valieva case: “We need to draw a conclusion from this situation so that this will never happen again in any sport”

Tamara Moskvina called for conclusions to be drawn from the doping case of Kamila Valieva.

Previously, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified the skater for 4 years. The Russian team lost gold in the team tournament of the 2022 Olympics and moved to third place.

“We have been waiting for this decision for two years and are pleased that it has finally been made. Of course, it doesn't make us happy. An appeal will probably be filed.

We have no other choice but to accept it. From this situation we need to draw a conclusion so that this will never happen again in any sport,” said Honored Coach of Russia Tamara Moskvina .

In direct contrast to Tarasova who has no power with the Russian Fed and loves to give interviews.

I suppose placements impacted strategies and substitutions, so unfair to go back and change placements now. But...that is just an argument for disqualifying Russia, or whatever name they were going by in 2022, from the Team Event entirely.
