USFSA 2018-19 Team Envelopes are up

The following criteria will be used to determine the members of the team envelopes for the 2018-19 season: http://usfsa.org/story?id=84105&menu=TeamUSA

Are Inge Solar, Mentor Torun, Bavarian Open, Challenge Cup and Egna Spring Trophy all brand new?
Inge Solar is a new ISU Challenger competition: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/2018-isu-challenger-series-announced.103959/
The other 4 are internationals USFS previously has used mainly for developmental purposes.

All this drama just makes me prouder of Max? Like, none of this wiffly-waffly, "I'm skipping the GP but not confirming anything else", will-they-or-won't-they bullsh*t, just "I'm done, thanks, bye." Thankyou Max for cutting out the waffly crap and not taking up places in envelopes he has no intention to use or anything.

Max Aaron has a job in Finance. His head is already out of competition. I think that's great, but it's not the only way, and, seriously, it is the opposite of wishy-washy to decline GP definitively, and letting other skaters get the initial assignments, rather than taking the assignments, and then giving them back, causing everyone else to adjust.

When the Nationals deadlines come about, then they'll have another decision to make. Until then, they don't owe anyone anything.

It's getting ancient that the only way to prop Aaron up is to put down other skaters' choices. He never struck me as being the kind of person who would appreciate that.

For people who understand the qualifying and envelopes:

1. I thought they were talking about limiting the Nationals fields to X, and the total spots for non-seeds was X-#of seeds. But there were 22 Ladies and 21 Men in 2018: did they drop that proposal? Or does that start this coming or in a later season? I'm trying to learn whether it makes any difference to the number of placements for non-seeds if Rippon, Wagner, and Nagasu decide late to compete at Nationals. (The Shibs have already said they're taking the year off.)

2. If they skip GP, but then do Nationals, do they get their envelope money? Do they have to compete internationally to get envelope money, as long as they are training and have expenses to defray? My understanding is that there is a pile of money that's distributed among all of the people who qualify: if that's true, does it mean that, for example, what the Shibs would have gotten goes back in the pile to be spread around?

.... not taking up places in envelopes he has no intention to use or anything.
There are no envelope “spaces.” Funding levels are determined by prior performance. There are no set number of spaces and as I said earlier, there is no money automatically awarded to someone in an envelope. It’s a reimbursement account, so if someone is not training there are no expenses being incurred and no money spent. But it’s not as though USFS would automatically take that money and spend it elsewhere. Funding is earned through placement.

All this Max cheerleader act is getting old. Move along. He did. Show some of his classs

And yet Gracie is assigned a GP and not on the list, which seems odd. (Perhaps she hasn't completed whatever the USFSA requires for their "competition readiness requirements" yet?)

which leads to the question of how she got the assignment. I thought USFS still had to ok people first... i sorta wish they would just update their site with her name.

My impression is that the 2018-19 envelopes are not yet finalized (since "2017-18" is still across the top) and a press release has not been published by USFS.

Anyone who receives an international assignment (Grand Prix, Challenger, JGP) who is not already listed in one of the A-C envelopes will be listed in the Reserve team eventually.

And the ISP list was published awhile ago, so it may not have been updated since Gracie announced/applied for a comeback. The ISP is usually updated during and after the summer comp season, so I would expect Gracie to be added with that batch. I'm thinking she may enter Liberty in early August, since she is training at that rink anyway? She is not required to (can wait until Champs Camp) but I would think she would want to get some comp experience before the fall.

See I always thought that USFS was the gatekeeper of assignments and had to okey things like this.
Is that true? I know hosts can sort of invite whomever they want within certain guidelines. But I don't know where the list of eligible skaters comes from.

The Federation is the entity that submits the names of skaters for the Grand Prix Series. So in that sense they are a gatekeeper because no one can be assigned by any host country unless their Federation has submitted their name.

I could be wrong on that but I believe that's how the Grand Prix assignments work.

Comeback clause is the only way to not be submitted by your federation. It's only based on your prior results and your selection is solely up to the grand prix hosts. I posted the whole rule above.

The revised qualifying pipeline is to start next year. I believe limiting the numbers was part of that restructuring plan so I would not expect to see that until next year.

That might be true, but it isn't clear from the announcement whether that is in addition to being submitted by the Fed, the skater must personally vouch that they are coming back, or in place of being submitted by the Fed.
