Still dont know why they dont choose CA since so many skaters are there...
Glacier Falls FSC has moved their annual Summer Classic non-qualifying club comp. to Oct. 30-Nov. 1, 2020 (before the start of USFS' qualifying series of competitions) in Anaheim, CA - link to their latest Announcement: http://glacierfalls.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/2020-GlacierFalls-Announcement-October-2020.pdf

All Year FSC usually hosts their annual non-qualifying club competition, Golden West, on Labor Day weekend but has now shifted the dates to December 11-13, 2020 (after USFS' qualifying series of competitions is over)) at Great Park Ice in Irvine, CA: http://allyearfsc.com/2020-golden-west-championships/

(I'm cross-posting this in the U.S. Club Competitions thread in the Kiss & Cry section.)

I noticed they didn't say "NBC Sports Gold" which makes me think that the people predicting skating will move to Peacock are correct.

Here is what "sportsvideo.org" is saying about Premier Soccer League which also was on NBC Sports Gold, so I agree that Figure Skating will probably move, as well, however I believe it will be on Peacock Premium, which will be a fee ($9.95 per month?):

"All content presented on NBC Sports Gold's “Premier League Pass” will shift exclusively to Peacock Premium with the start of the 2020-21 Premier League season. ... NBC and NBCSN will continue to present extensive Premier League live match coverage, as well as pre- and post-match shows and additional shoulder programming"

Yikes, just when Comcast started offering the NBC Sports app....but I just checked and apparently, Comcast/Xfinity customers get Peacock Premium for free. :) I just hope the comps can be held, safely, so we can watch them.

True. I receive an email about this as I'm sure every NBCSG subscriber did. But it takes a $4.99/month subscription.

You can get a yearly subscription for about what NBC Sports Gold cost so that's good. Plus a lot of us get it for free with our cable subscription, at least for now.

Rinks in MA are closed for 2 weeks, starting tonight. I wouldn't be surprised if the closure was extended, which would affect the qual series event at SCOB that starts Nov. 10. And skaters' preparation will certainly be affected. :(

The closure is due to a large number of cases traced back to various hockey games/practices. Figure skating doesn't appear to be the problem but the rink closure is universal.

^^^ 6000+ have signed the petition - hope the numbers keep rising!

Chad Brennan, who coaches at Colonial FSC (and was Chazz's skate double in Blades of Glory), created the petition:

This Boston Globe article mentions the Novice ice dance team of L'Esperance/Amdour: Figure skaters say Mass. rink closures are unfair to them

Just read that there are now 4 states with similar rink closures - Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.

Apparently one of the issues is that the hockey teams do not want to release their rosters to the contact tracers. What a mess! You gotta wonder if the shutdown will be extended.

Any update on the Norwood, MA event that is to start Nov 9?

Well, that’s good news. But any MA based skaters are unable to train for it, right?

Per the link above, all registered athletes from Massachusetts can train at the Skating Club of Boston starting this morning (without skaters paying non-member rates or coaches paying guest coaching fees):

MASSACHUSETTS athletes/coaches/attendees only

The Skating Club of Boston has worked closely with local officials to provide training opportunities for those unable to practice in the lead-up to the competition. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 30, registered athletes and coaches who reside in Massachusetts may book ice at the Skating Club of Boston club member contract rate at the Norwood Facility. (Note: guest coaching fees will be waived).

Several Texas skaters are upset that they arrived early and now cannot practice. I hope that exemption also covers non-Massachusetts skaters. From the quote above, it sounds like it only covers MA skaters who are registered for the event.

It's official (link to USFS' 11/2/20 press release): https://tinyurl.com/y2sjbt69
Due to the recent surge of C0VID-19, U.S. Figure Skating’s Board of Directors voted unanimously Sunday night to conduct the 2021 U.S. Championship Series presented by Toyota via virtual formats, allowing senior and junior athletes to qualify for an in-person 2021 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships while providing high-level programming for Series-registered athletes at the novice, intermediate and juvenile levels.
“While we understand many of our athletes and their families may be disappointed by this announcement, the health and safety of our members remain paramount,” U.S. Figure Skating President Anne Cammett said. “As a skating community, our continued ability to adapt during the ongoing p*ndemic shows the resiliency of our athletes, coaches and officials and their passion for our sport.”
Senior and junior athletes registered for the Series and not previously qualified for the 2021 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships will be offered the opportunity to compete in a virtual qualifying competition for the remaining entry positions without needing to earn a minimum technical element score. Additional information will be provided Nov. 9.
Novice, intermediate and juvenile competitors registered for the Series will be offered the opportunity to participate in high-level competitive programming to identify the National High Performance Development Team. The programming, hosted by U.S. Figure Skating’s High Performance, Athlete Programs and Events departments, will offer a variety of virtual and in-person opportunities January through May, as conditions allow. Additional information will be provided Nov. 9.
"Further information, including the fee refund process, will be provided Nov. 9."
