US President Jimmy Carter has died

Tai Babilonia’s tribute:

"It was the phone call of support from President Carter reassuring us that everything would be okay after Randy & I were forced to withdraw (due to Randy’s injury) from the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid that helped us both get through that difficult & confusing time in our lives. He & Mrs. Carter were so genuine & kind and they truly made you feel like you were part of their family. Rest In Power President #JimmyCarter 🇺🇸🌊🙌🏽🙏🏽❤️😔 #Respect #Inspire Photo courtesy of Cleo’s hallway."

Jimmy Carter was a much better President than he was given credit for IMO. (And the opinions of others.)

He was a great president, but a greater man. They don't come any better.

I was too young to remember Jimmy Carter when he was president although I def know his name. When is his state funeral?

Just finished watching the service for President Carter in Atlanta.
Wonderful service for a wonderful man.

His son, grandson, pastor and an employee of the Carter Center spoke. Very heartfelt speeches.

The music - choir by Morehouse college Glee club was beautiful.

The public can pay their respects until Tuesday.

There will be Eulogies in Washington DC next week.

President Carter's death has elicited many stories from those who interacted with him over the years.

I really love this story.

I'm watching the video of the Carter funeral procession through the streets of D.C. Today looks and feels so much like Inauguration Day in 1977. I remember being out in the cold standing on snow watching the inauguration and parade.

I don't think it was quite as windy. Its a bit too much to stand outside today. :cold:

Is Kamala Harris in attendance does anyone know? Or is she being the one to stay elsewhere?

I'm glad President Carter won't have to witness what the incoming POTUS will do in an attempt to undermine all those firsts you did in office. I'm proud I voted for you twice.

You have to wonder what is going through the minds of the former presidents thinking about what will people say when it's my turn?

A POTUS who is dozing off! Biden just, in the terms of the south, blessed Donald Trumps heart without mentioning his name. Who's ego won't know he did but everybody listening knows what he did. A man of character indeed.

I am watching the service but may have to check out of the hotel before it concludes.

Carter’s grandson Jason is a charismatic speaker. Is anyone in the Carter family in politics?

Trump looked bored, and looked like someone who was forced to be there. He was even falling asleep.

Carter’s grandson Jason is a charismatic speaker.
Jan. 6:
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Of the many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, Jason James Carter has followed the closest career path of his legendary grandfather.
“He had this tireless energy,” Jason Carter said during his first local television interview with Atlanta News First‘s Monica Pearson. “He had this tireless energy, and I feel like I’m always tired these days ... but I’m not the only one who was not able to keep up with Jimmy Carter.
“Over time, what I try to emulate is his respect for other people. He never looked down on anybody, no matter what your job was, no matter where you came from, no matter your condition, and that’s really what I try to do. I don’t know that I’m as successful as him, but if you ask what of him do I see in me, I hope it’s that.”
On Saturday, during his grandfather’s funeral service at the Carter Center, Jason Carter became emotional when addressing the room full of family friends and Carter Center employees.
“I was looking out at that room of people, and it is people who worked with him and really given their lives to his legacy,” Jason Carter said. “But as we watched this human being - who we all knew as Pawpaw - grow and build this legacy, we sometimes forget is, he wasn’t doing that alone. The Carter Center has 3,500 employees out there living out this legacy of Jimmy Carter.
“As I sat in that room and I looked out at some of those folks and saw the tears in their eyes, I got choked up. The ones at the Carter Center who worked with him for 40 years are the ones to whom we feel the closest.”
