UPDATED: Jason Brown to Brian Orser (official)

Jason seems like such a nice person. But it's always been clear to me that he's very ambitious.

It is also clear to me that the biggest thing holding him back in the recent years seems to have been injuries (not lack of seriousness or attachment to a coach. Though I've felt that Jason probably needed something different in terms of teaching technique for a while). I'm excited for him (and us) that he was able to make a change and will be sticking around for four more years.

Honestly, I don't think Jason's had more severe injury issues than your typical senior man. And he was injury free this past season.

Are you sure that was the way Wilson choreographed Weir´s programs? I´m sure there would have been transitions if Weir was able to handle that kind of programs and maybe his coach simplified the programs....
??? That's odd-- I did not say those things. I don't have any problems w/David Wilson's choreo and certainly would not call it "sh-t."

Ugh, I generally am not a fan of Brian's student's programs. Please skategods, no horrible jazzy shorts ("Sing, Sing, Sing" or "Take Five") or high school "standard" musicals (i.e. continuing along the lines of Javi's "Guys and Dolls" and "Man of LaMancha" dreck) for free skates.

I know that's probably too much to ask for, but I'll try and have hope. :P

Why are you even reading a thread about Jason and making the same old nasty remarks? Does it make you feel good about yourself?

I like Scott Dyer. Your interpretation indicates you are the jerk. What did Scott Dyer ever do to you?

:EVILLE:

Really. And the vomit?

The vomit is not liking the syrupy sweet comment by Jason. Jason does not have to improve much of anything else but his jumps . . . he needs to learn 3 different quads and the 3A at 23.

I think that's what he's got planned for Jin.

I'm sure it would be more fun for some if Jason said, "I'm moving to Canada and wedging my way in on Brian Orser's team because I can't keep up with the joneses with the jumps and need to compete." But it would be way out of character for him and his personality. Not to mention that he's put more stock on having an all-round skating package than amassing new jumps, which I guess arguably is part of the problem. In other words, what he says is pretty much in line with his philosophy anyway?

I don't know though -- it seems he is looking for a wholesale change. Sure the quads are a huge part of that...but it sounds like he wants to see what else is out there. Just because he's already good at artistry/skating basics/non-jump elements doesn't mean there isn't room for growth there.

For the record, I enjoyed seeing Scott Dyer at Nationals. :D Also, I liked Javier's Man of La Mancha....:D

I'm not really sure that's such great great news as everybody seems to think? Looking at the roster, Jason will be rather far down the priority list. They'll focus on Medvedeva - they have something to prove after all, on Jin - China's hope for Beijing gold, on Cha - Korea's hope for a next FS star, on Hanyu - Japan's hope for 4A, on Gogolev - Canada's hope to return to the top...
Jason will have better and consistent access to some of the best coaches, etc. in the world. What could be better to help him go further in his artistry and with technical ability?

That is what he says as repeated in the article on Ice Network. He wants to grow in every way. He is also a competitor and has his eyes wide open. He needs a quad to stay among the top skaters in the world. Almost there is not enough. He plans to remain and work for 4 years to make it onto the next Olympic team

There is obviously a pecking order with every coach, and this will be different for him. Kori is tough but he was her special one, now he has to fight for his place on a team with skaters such as Med and Hanyu. Kind of a make it or break it situation mentally for a guy who sometimes seems to be too nice and goodhearted for his own competitive good.

Skaters often talk about how their training mates pushes them to be better and train harder, I hope this will be the case.

I will always cheer for him nevertheless, his personality is just the best, and very honest.
I don't think there will be any fighting. Orser has access to another skating rink, he uses a team of people to take care of his skaters and the various needs in prep for competition. According to the article on Ice Network, he won't be able to accompany Jason to every event, but there will be another coach with whom Jason has worked, that can be there. I don't see that as pecking order, but as the other skaters who have been with Orser already for many years, have first priority.

Why is everyone assuming that David Wilson will necessarily do Jason’s programs? With Lee Barkell as Jason’s main coach, wouldn’t Jeff Buttle be just as likely?
Either one will be awesome with Jason's artistic ability, and he needs something new and the option to be the most important one in choosing music.

Personally, I would rather see him working with Shae-Lynn than David Wilson. I find her choreography to be more innovative and his to be more fill the box. Jason can handle the former.

It's a sport. A sport is about winning. He's less advanced than the consistently top men.
Well, in jumps he may be, but he's at or near the top as far as spinning and footwork goes. His transitions are pretty good as well.

Is he even capable of saying something mean?

I have no idea why @bardtoob feels the need to barf at Jason's comments. By every account I've heard he's just as over-the-top positive when people aren't watching as when they are. What's gross about someone who's always positive? The fact that most of us aren't? I wish more people were.

The only case I find a statement like that gross is if it's obviously sarcastic, pointed at someone, or a lie to make themselves look better - none of which is the case here.

ITA. Some of my favorite recent programs have been choreographed by her: Seimei, Nemesis, Hip Hip Chin Chin, etc. She tends to make interesting programs.

Brian Orser's team definitely likes boring choices, but I think Jason likes interesting ones (and has a Rohene SP). It seems the skaters at TCC have a lot of input in what they skate to, so we'll see what happens.

Not only this, but I think it is a great compliment to Jason that Orser and his team the Cricket Club took him on at all. (And also to Tracy’s persuasive skills).

If Jason were a skater whom Brian thought, nope, not happening, it would have been very easy for Brian to say, sorry, all full up, no room at all.

Brian didn’t and I think the team approach at TCC will be great for someone as internally driven as Jason :respec:

Then say you didn’t like his comment. It wasn’t Jason who looked bad here.

Don't care.

I am frustrated by Jason. I think he tried too be too cool for hard jumps when he is no Patrick Chan. I would applaud if he did kept some nuances but added 3A, 4T, and 4S, but I don't believe in magic.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Anyone who thinks this was his attitude clearly hasn't paid any attention at all in the last eight years.

Please. You'd call me a fool either way
