He was a great skater, but he was first of all an exceptional person, one of the best I've ever met.
I can't even imagine what his family, but especially his Mom, is going through right now. He was her light, her life, her everything...

Denis was such a legend! I remember the Sochi event where he skated beautifully in the third or penultimate group in the long program and praying that no one would overtake him for the bronze medal.

I think our skating family is just in shock right now. I’ve been trying to contact our family member who knew him best. I’m not sure if this awful news has reached them yet.
