U.S. Women [#8]: Meet Me in St. Louis

Did anyone catch the 60 minutes story about Alysa? I see it was mentioned on her fan thread. In some ways revealing but not a word about the problems with China and her dad - even though there was a lot about her dad.

They did show a little bit of the Lady Gaga program at the end.

I'm sure it will be on Youtube very soon.

I am glad that Massimo realized (per one of his interviews) that Alysa's original Gaga FS was (to paraphrase) 'too dark' and that it just wasn't working - broken skates notwithstanding. I also loved that he mentioned that Alysa would be getting a 'lighter' costume for her revised Gaga FS! 🤩

I hope so! My internet went down just as Alysa's segment began and I missed almost the whole thing! 😭
 
Wow - I highly recommend watching the 60 Minutes piece on Alysa Liu. I thought it would be dumbed down, basic, repetitive, etc but it was very insightful. There were interviews with Alysa, her Dad, and her coaches and they cover her early skating career, decision to return, and current skating. It is really worth 10 mins to watch!!

Ugh. That damn white circle sofa. 😡 That's so embarrassing. I actually mentioned it in my post Skate America survey. I watched them set up the kiss and cry during the first day of practices. They first tried spraying the sofa with some sort of cleaning solution and then wiped it down. When that did not work they resorted to covering it up with a big, fluffy blanket. Whatever happened to the cool kiss and cry display from Nashville nationals and why is it so hard to create a kiss and cry that doesn't appear to be something constructed by middle school students?

Well, maybe it comes out of the same budget as Johnny and Tara’s wardrobe and hair and by the time they get tiffed up there’s nothing left for the kiss and cry

As I’ve said before, I can’t believe that she is 19 or 20 years old… she speaks like a 40 year old, confident, intelligent, uses interesting language and words. I don’t know many 19 or 20 year olds thatSpeak like her I didn’t when I was 20. She is very engaging.

Is that what that blanket was for at skate America? Oh dear.

It’s already set up for juniors right now, I zoomed in on it as rather banged up as well.

Why does USFSA have their panties in a bunch for the sofa for the last seven years? It fits people awkwardly on it anyways. As I said before I don’t know why they are against hiring a gay to fix things and make things better and a lot more presentable.

And I don’t even really have the gay interior design gene and even I can do a lot better.
 
If I had a woman spirit animal, this must be her, because she mimicked everything I think about this crop of US women.

Right down to even mentioning Von Felton and Emilia N as I have…. She too says there’s always a surprise, and these two juniors could be the surprise.

Although it’s funny, Alysa is the world champion and the current Grand Prix champion. She is in my eyes considered the best in the world. Not Kaori. Not Mone. Alysa. The only way she’s being left off the Olympic team is if her something happens to her body. Her chances are not 99.9%. They are 100% as she is the world champion and the current Grand Prix finalist – the best in the world.

This woman was really good except she cannot remember Josephine’s name. LMAO.

I haven't given attention to the sofa in question but those of you who do....the USFSA has contact info. Let them know you are embarrassed by it. the USFSA can do better for sure. Get enough attention going to that sofa and it will be replaced or at least, recovered.

The promo for the U.S. women has been crazy, especially by mainstream media outside of local and/or sports news outlets. Whatever happens come Sunday, the past quad has been one for the history books. Not only did we witness the rise of Amber Glenn, we also watched athletes like Bradie Tennell grit and persevere through near career-ending injuries. Isabeau Levito, despite the thousands of naysayers, proved her mettle and thrived after winning her junior world title on the senior stage. Alysa Liu, after announcing her retirement, came back... on top of figure skating's biggest stage outside of the Olympics. Newcomers like Sarah Everhardt and Elyce Lin-Gracey had moments of glory, setting them up for a successful career should they wish to continue in the upcoming quad. Next season, junior skaters like Sophie Joline von Felten will transition into the senior ranks and attempt to make a big splash. What a beautiful ride it has been, and what a beautiful journey it will continue to be.

Same. Cramming US and Can Nats, Euros, and 4CC into 3 weeks is just insane. And I’m not ready.
