This or That - Round 42

no (although I don't like them, I can't think why they should not be allowed to do this if they want to).

You open grapes on the counter and out steps a black widow spider. You:

Scream like crazy, hope someone hears you and helps;
Scream like crazy and run;
Find a large device and pulverize it;
Nonchalantly get a cup and put the spider and take it outdoor to enjoy the remains of the day;
call 911;
call the SPCA;
strike a task force to decide what to do;
or
put in a vial and return it to the supermarket

Scream like crazy, call 911 (in case you think you have been bitten, you NEED to do this ASAP), kill the spider, and call an exterminator to thoroughly treat your residence.

Controversy time! :D

Today, a military judge has sentenced Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl after he pled guilty to charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy in Afghanistan in 2009. The judge sentenced Bergdahl:
  • No prison time
  • Dishonorable discharge from the US Army
  • Bergdahl's rank be reduced from sergeant to private
  • Fine of $1,000 fine from his salary for the next 10 months
Was the sentence fair? The charges had a maximum sentence of life imprisonment but the prosecution wanted a 14 year sentence. The defense only wanted the dishonorable discharge.

YES - The punishment + the five years of Taliban captivity is enough.
or
NO - Bergdahl deserted his unit and unnecessarily put his fellow soldiers in danger rescuing him.

NO

Now that we’re almost halfway through the GP series......

Should the U.S. Olympic Team be determined by:

Considering the “body of work”
or
Treating U.S. Nationals as a pure “Olympic Trials” like swimming and track & field does

Twelve jurors began their deliberations today in the federal corruption trial of Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and a wealthy ophthalmologist

1) Gut feeling: Guilty or Not Guilty?

If convicted, Sen. Menendez will have to leave the Senate - but there's no rule that it is immediate. The current governor of NJ is Chris Christie (Republican) but his term is up in January - the election for his successor is tomorrow and the Democrat is expected to win. In most states, the current governor appoints a interim until the next election is up. The GOP currently has a 52-46 majority and several pieces of legislation (Obamacare repeal, tax reform, etc.) have been 1-2 votes shy of passing.

2) If convicted, will the Senate Democrats fight for Menendez to stay until a (they are hoping) Democratic governor comes to New Jersey in January?

YES - They Democrats need that vote!
or
NO - Principle: Convicts shouldn't stay in the U.S. Senate.

Yes?

Would you live alone on a deserted island for one year if you were paid 1 million? (and you had food and water)

Yes, show me the money
No, too lonely and risky with spiders etc.
Yes but only if I could dictate supplies (but no electronics)

NO - But I've always thought it was :shuffle: anyway.

Election Night: It has been called that Ralph Northam will be Virginia's next Governor. How did this happen?

The Ed Gillespie campaign/Virginia GOP was drinking too much stupid juice.
OR
Northam is a centrist and a slow-talking country doctor who connected with more Virginians than a decades long lobbyist
OR
Virginia is actually a liberal state.
OR
The Democrats have learned to care about winning non-liberals again.
OR
Backlash against Trump
OR
Something else
