The Vikings, around 1000, had apparently made a settlement in upper Newfoundland called Vinland. The settlement didn't last long due to conflicts with the natives and bad weather/seas.

What if the Vikings had stayed in Vinland?

The Vikings would have eventually made it down to New England/Quebec/Nova Scotia/Ontario. Whatever Canada and the U.S. would been would have culture more influenced by Scandinavia and not Britain/France.

The Vikings would have stayed near Newfoundland. The British and the French would have made the same settlements. If they knew about Vinland, they might have arrived a bit earlier because they would have figured out that they wouldn't slide off the earth.

Today was the 46th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which brought the U.S. into WWII. Prior to 12/07/1941, the U.S. was militarily neutral, but the was giving aid to the Allies, especially Britain. But isolationism was still rampant and very few Americans were willing to send troops back into combat.

What if Japan Had Never Attacked Pearl Harbor?

The U.S. would have stayed out of WWII.
