YAY - This is already pretty much the case. When you buy any firearm from a dealer, they have to be federally registered and they are required to run a check on you before you can complete the purchase.

Problem is - from almost every one of these mass shootings - the databases sometimes don’t get updated timely/correctly and/or a person can still be deranged and have a completely clean criminal/personal record. Also, what about firearms from the black market or just taken from someone else?
