I didn't like T & D's FD either and while I was on their side at the time because they were so legendary, when I look back on it, I think they could have been more gracious about G & P's victory. I hesitated to say that before the last time this came up b/c I respect their skating so much in general, but hey we're here to discuss things so. It doesn't take anything away from their extraordinary accomplishments or legendary status, but there was a slight sense of entitlement to the way it seemed people just expected them to get the gold b/c of who they were.
1994 was my introduction to Torvill/Dean and yes, they came off as haughty and entitled to me. It didn't help that during their own documentary, Torvill and Dean are shown dismissing G&P's FD as "not very mature", "gimmicky" and just a "show program" etc, prior to the FD at Euros. Dean complaining that they were the ones "doing the technique" and the Russians weren't, is kind of rich considering how rough their compulsories were in Lillehammer compared to the Russians, particularly the Waltz. They come off as people in denial during that entire segment.
Also, their packing was so stuffy and old that I legit thought they were both in their 40s.
