The Shibutanis Thread Cinco...Mambo!

SCREAMING with joy. I was near tears after their skate and only held them in because my family was there and they really don’t need to know the extent of my ubering LOL. But DadRani really liked the Shibs and was positive they were gonna stay in the medals even when I still didn’t believe it after H/D skate. Omg guys they did it. They did it!!! :wuzrobbed

Every high and every low was worth it for this moment. So happy right now.

That TES though!
And to know they earned it from the panel that was doing them no favors tonight. They really are such warriors.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, Maia & Alex what an amazing moment you created on the ice today!

This was the one I wanted more than anything else at this Olympic Games. Incredibly happy. Congratulations, Shib fans! Having faith just paid off today!

Ixnay on all the comparisons. I love the Shibs most because they touch my heart when they skate. Always have. Always will.

Hubbel and Donahue are great skaters, but their music and program did nothing to create an Olympic moment and it did them no favors. The Olympics is another ballgame. There was no magic, despite the technical ability.

Shibs had the speed, the music that drew you in, etc. It adds to the performance and moment.

Only 2 skaters could be substituted after the short programs, so the choice was subbing in men's and ladies. They could have had H/D sub, then someone else wouldn't have been on the team. We could make a list of "not fair" but the team event, unfortunately, is limited.

Excuse me, but you are not telling me anything I don't know about the team selection process. Just as I already said, the decision was made not to leave Mirai and Adam off the team! I also already said that nothing is fair in figure skating.

Obviously, it does NOT change how I feel about the Shibs having two medals, and Hub/Don having none. As I said, I'm conflicted because I love both teams. Shibs skated free, as if it was almost liberating coming from behind. I could detect Hub/Don being a bit tight and overexcited getting close to the end of their performance.

With everything that happened I forgot about what happened to Maddie and Evan. They weren't going to make it to the podium, but that was sad they both fell. Hopefully Madi/Zach and Maddie/Evan will rebound for Worlds.

Whine away, then. None of us can make those decisions. It was not fair to several other skaters.

Cool for the Shibs. I loved that program and I was really feeling it. They overcame, but I'm just not happy that Hub/Don were left off the team, and now they leave with no medal and the Shibs have two. It doesn't seem fair to me. I know that figure skating isn't fair. USFS was in a bind re team selection and I guess they thought H/D had a good chance for the individual medal. I'm happy for the Shibs but upset for Hub/Don.

V/M brung it as usual, but I just didn't feel the same emotion that I felt for P/C's work of art. V/M have enough medals and didn't really need another gold.

Please let us Shib fans celebrate their accomplishment in their Cheer thread! A simple congratulations would have been nice.

I am a Shibs fan too, and I will speak my mind in their thread. Celebrate on. They had a great skate, and now they have two medals. They deserve to be proud.

You know what, try not to tell others how to feel. I obviously am happy how well the Shibs skated. They touched my heart with that fd, especially seeing them skate so free, and after reading Mrs.P's description of the meaning of their dance. I'm not hating on the Shibs, and I really don't care if you think I am. Emotions are involved.

Did you watch the plushies ceremony?, they looked soooo happy and radiant!!!,

Dang. I missed it. What channel was that on? Anyone with a clip?

Obviously, it does NOT change how I feel about the Shibs having two medals, and Hub/Don having none.

Are you aware that H&D have their own cheer thread and that your sour grapes are more appropriate there? Seriously.

I definitely agree. I actually hated H&D's free dance. I know this will sound mean but I found it a little low grade in terms of its artistic quality. But of course, artistry is so subjective and I'm sure many will disagree.

Still, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the top 3 couples. And I'm thrilled the Shibs managed to win their own Olympic medal. Thoroughly well deserved.

This is so backwards. From the SP placements it's obvious USFS had H/D getting the bronze over the Shibs in the individual event. They didn't execute on the ice.

Fair enough. I love both teams. So I guess you don't know what that feels like. I'm still a Shibs fan regardless of how its all we have to celebrate them, and not feel for anyone else. Get out of their thread.

Let's ignore the negativity and keep celebrating. We all know people are feeling raw now, so let this thread stay positive and whatever hurt feelings are being expressed here (because let's face it this thread is way more happening than some other threads and has been for a while) let's acknowledge it/ignore it and keep celebrating the Shibs being two-time Olympic medalists.

Remember when people were laughing about how their career was over and they'd be overtaken by all these other American teams by 2018? Remember how people said they HAD to break up to have further success? Remember when everyone said they had no future with Marina? Remember how some of us (me) fell for that at times? The Shibs knew better. I believe in the ShibSibs!

I'm glad for Shibs Sibs. I have always liked them through the years. They've had a very tough season, but managed to get it together for the Olympics. Hubbell and Donohue had that one mistake that was the difference between making the podium and not.

Maia and Alex even got a higer score in their FD in the team event than H/D here, even when the panel was being really harsh on the Team event. And just imagine what would have happened if C / B had skated with this performance in the team event. Maia and Alex were not in the Team event to get a medal as a gift, they were there to get that the American team wins a medal, and they did it.

Let's ignore the negativity and keep celebrating.

The Shibs are incredible, and its lovely for them, more than just having two medals though. They conquered a lot and came through. They would have been satisfied no matter what. But its sweet for them to have prevailed in the individual event when they were being counted out. And obviously they were never giving up on that, even despite all the tech nitpicking by the judges. The over-scrutiny spurred them on. It actually really helped them I think to skate that FD in the team event.

As for me, I actually don't like Shibs Sibs Free Dance. It was my least favorite of the final group. I thought using Coldplay 3 times doesn't stretch them artistically. I liked H&D's free dance better, but there was the one mistake.

It was tough for me to pick a winner between V&M and P&C. They were both brilliant in my opinion. Why can't we give 2 golds?

The Shibs only used Coldplay twice in a competitive setting. Get your facts straight in the Shibs thread and if you want to talk about liking the H/D's program better you can do it in here but it may make more sense to do it in the H/D thread.

I don't hate HD's FD at all. It's just different, the only FD to jazz unless I'm forgetting something. I am ashamed that I hoped they would have one of the errors to which they're prone, but they ended up having more than I would wish on any team in their position. Not a happy night for them and they can't be angry at anyone but themselves, at least I hope not. Maddie's mother may disagree.

It's amazing to me that both VM and the Shibs did this Olympics to the fullest with the complete TE and IE, flagbearing, media and social media, and did it ALL with total win. Lesser mortals would parcel out their energy cautiously but these guys just thrived on the Olympic challenges and energy. Another parallel -- the audience response to both. If I were PC, I wouldn't take gold in Beijing for granted. :)

Please, who said the Shibs were in the team event as a gift? But go ahead and be happy for Shibs and not understanding for teams you don't like. :blah:
