The Heir, The Spare and the “Baby Brain” -The Prince Harry and Meghan show rumbles on…

Chirp has the audiobook on sale for $21.99 for the next week, but I don't know if I'm up for listening to him read it himself.

ETA: Libro.fm has it for $22.40. I have six credits, but that would still mean listening to him read it himself. But there's no time limit on using credits.

Google Play Books has the ebook available for $17.99 and I think I'm going to get it as a birthday gift to myself and read at my leisure over the next few days/the long weekend coming up. There's plenty that hasn't been reported/discussed by the press that does NOT cast Harry in a favorable light when everything is taken in its entirety.

He is, absolutely, very damaged by his mother's death, still, but, jeez, so much of his character was baked in by BOTH of his parents and it seems no one ever taught him how to be polite, respectful and considerate to everyone, but especially those who worked for him or his family.

I am genuinely curious why someone who has criticised him writing this book would put money in his pocket by buying it?
Not a dig at all, just

Hey, I can be charitable. God knows, he's going to need all the money he can get his hands on when Meghan inevitably dumps his wholly unwell self.

When I read things in here, it seems really bad but whenever I hear H&M talk in their own words in interviews, I find them pretty reasonable and their POV is understandable. This is one reason that I cautioned people to wait until the book it out and they can read these excerpts themselves in context rather than going by second-hand reports.
Exactly because people in this thread are going by what has been sensationalized in the British press. Or fictional history like the crown (& admittedly so). Or false tabloid reports about his Military entrance grade claims etc
Hey I say more power to him making a dime off his own stories when the media in England has done the same his whole life.
I will read it myself in context as I find the only thing good for royals is entertainment anyway.

Of course, some people will never ever believe anything they say no matter what. And will tell us that us believing means there is something wrong with our critical thinking. ;)

Some of us are going by a life-long love and interest in the royal family, especially the Queen. My daughter and friends planned way ahead and went to the Queen's jubilee. She was gobsmacked by the very public display of love for the Queen and the tremendous celebration held in her honour. She found it beyond amazing to see a country come together in that way. To us, her life and legacy are not just entertaining.

Harry has every right to tell his "truth" and set the record straight. I see little value in recounting deeply personal moments that humiliate and injure others you claim to care about. I feel voyeuristic rather than informed.

Well having grown up there I’m not a fan of the history or how the royal family made its wealth. I do have many family members who love them though, my Aunty Dot was even recognized for her services by the Queen.
But like you say the Queen was good for the tourists. Can’t see the King having the same popularity though?
I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say the country came together? The country is divided by the monarchy and their popularity has continued to dwindle on the YouGov polls.
10/10 for my entertainment now, this will really add to the upcoming crown seasons too. I enjoy the historical entertainment aspect as well.

They can say what they want but it is hypocrital to cut of Meghans father for talking to the press and doing the same themselves.
Nonsense. Meghan has said that she is mad at her father because he staged stories with the tabloids, lied to her about it, and then didn't return her phone calls and texts. He didn't even tell her that he wasn't coming to the wedding and she was trying to find out if he was physically okay after hearing press reports that he wasn't coming to the wedding because of heart issues. Big difference IMO.

Harry wants to be able to set the record straight and he isn't hiding behind the tabloids.

The heir and spare don't necessarily always have a bad relationship. Elizabeth and Margaret were very different ppl but they were very close.
According to Morton’s book they also had their issues and tensions and falling out. They were not always on the same page over the years, how interesting life may have been in today’s times of social media especially for spare Margaret?

Well she would have been allowed to marry the love of her life for one thing. And of course if Charles had been allowed to marry Camilla...

I am curious as to how you know this since you haven't read the book.
Well, I thought we generally weren't supposed to discuss what we read/see on other forums, but there are a few people on a royalty forum I frequent who have already started reading their copies of the book and sharing some excerpts that haven't been sensationalized by the media yet.

I started the book during my lunch break and already I'm :eyeroll: at Harry's idolazation of his mother.

Well that was actually admittedly historical “fiction” about who Margaret could marry, apparently her sister did support it? But who really knows?

That’s a little callous don’t you think? Having worked with kids who have lost parents in their formative years it is quite normal to idolize and fantasize about their deceased parent.
Well at least he is making his dime off you lol! Hope it’s entertaining :)

I think they sound like they have a point, until I realize they're doing the exact same things they're condemning the BRF for - sharing private information for their own gain, using the media to rehabilitate their image heedless of 'leaving bodies in the streets' in the process, attacking women with sexist stereotypes, gaslighting, refusing accountability, etc. Seems like the apple didn't fall far from the tree.
Are they sharing real events or they leaking lies to the press? There's a difference.

This is all from the words of Meghan and Harry. All Meghan's accusations I can return to them. About tabloids, and about lies, and about calls and texts.
We don't know the truth. And none of the parties convinced me that it was they who were telling the truth and nothing but the truth.

You do realise you are in this thread basing your opinion of pretty much the same things. Just the other end of the spectrum. Right?

I guess if we are saying CNN is on the same level as British tabloids? My source for the military info was from CNN. But yes that is the point that I’m saying though that it’s all BS and gossip and tabloids. One could even say the only valid truth is from Harry as he is an actual real person and not a tabloid?

And of course no one ever told a story that put them in a better light ;)

And I consider 24/7 news stations to be somewhat tabloid-y :P

Oh that’s a low blow for CNN lol .. Fox maybe? Yeah I mean really it’s all crap but does make for entertaining fodder for the peasants.

I find it amusing that the people that say they are done with Harry post in here more than his defenders. I don’t really pay much attention to the BRF and you can see that by the fact I don’t post daily/weekly/monthly in that thread. I find Harry’s revelations fascinating. I also enjoy The Crown but more the peripheral characters (spares on down) . He is the product of those that raised him so why would you bother defending those that raised him? He is fallible, so are they but they have a much bigger system to protect them.

As a sociology major I find the whole defending the monarchy to this extent fascinating. I see a lot of authoritarian tendencies in the fervent BRF support. It’s fine to like the historical context or be fond of the Queen but to defend Charles/Camilla et al this vigorously is interesting.

Actually, I'm intimately aware of how children can and do idolize and fantasize about deceased parents given that my ex-SIL's mother passed away when she was a toddler and her father was in and out of her life after that.

Harry is a 38-year old man who has been through a lot of therapy. I wasn't expecting him to state "Although my mother was a princess, named after a goddess, both those terms always felt weak, inadequate..." as he does in the prologue, and to follow that up a few paragraphs later with "Oh, how she loved my brother and me. Obsessively, she once confessed in an interview. Well, Mummy... vice versa."

I'm not sharing that snarkily, but rather sadly. There's a lot of pain and anguish that Harry has never processed, and at this point, I'm not sure he ever will.

Some people don't understand how effective therapy works. It doesn't help someone to protect their abusers or their dysfunctional families. It's about practicing good boundaries, to have your own feelings, to love who you love, and to say 'NO" when necessary for your own well being

I don't know the truth of their claims anymore than I know whether the BRF snuck lies to the press. None of us do. But Harry and Meghan are certainly gaslighting, stereotyping, invading privacy, throwing people to the tabloid wolves - behavior they rightly say is unacceptable.

Hmm, well. My mother's father died when she was 13; she always said that her emotional development stopped at that point. I don't think that was true, as I think my mother was as fully adult as an adult can be, but she never felt that way. She always said it was like there was no foundation for her to develop adulthood on.

One of her brothers died when his daughter was 14, and my cousin says the same things--that she has always felt as if the floor beneath her feet had just dropped away and never came back.

Both of them idolized their dads and were rather meh about their mothers. I once thought this was grossly unfair to their mothers, but I have come to think that it was necessary for them to idolize their dead parent because that was what made them feel like there was ground beneath their feet--that someone, somewhere had loved them fully and unconditionally, if only for a time, and I think that's what got my mom and still gets my cousin through some of those times when they have been alone. I don't think that's something those of us who became adults with both parents alive need in the same way. I am sure that there have been times Harry rather desperately needed to feel that no matter what, his mother loved him. I mean, haven't we all? But most of us get to grow up enough with that security to maybe not need it after a while.
