The future of Maxim Kovtun?

While I am not a fan of Kovtun and never was, I admit a part of me feels badly for him. He was probably unfairly kept out of the Olympics in 2014 for Plushenko. This time he isnt even close to making it, and is far below not only Kolyada who is the same age, but has been clearly surpassed by a couple much younger Russians too. He probably will never be an Olympian even if he continues to 2022, and his future looks hazy. Does he have the determination and guts to keep going, or the talent to survive with the young talent starting to come through in Russia?

I also feel badly for Kolyada who after Europeans will probably not even get to participate in the Team Event and likely gold medal for Russia at the Games.

He has been injured and he never seemed to particularly love skating or competing. I feel sorry for Adian Pitkeev who never had a chance, I feel sorry for Sergei who has been treated like dirt for years by the Fed and was the one who was actually more deserving to go to Sochi (and Vancouver over Borodulin), but Max not so much. He's living his best life, he has other interests.

They haven't even announced who will be in the team event, so what's with the preemptive sympathy for Kolyada? They are definitely not getting a gold medal after what happened today, anyway.

Oh, Adian was wonderful! Beautiful, developing skating skills during his debut season. He and Sota really seemed to be the future. Poor things.

The Russians have not announced their Team Event plans but I am pretty sure after Europeans Aliev will do both programs. We will see though.

He never liked training and said so many times. He knew best how to jump and everything and didn’t like anyone who said they knew more than him in skating. Now with his rapping and music he can do what he wants. He was never robbed of anything in skating. He was only given enormous gifts that he repeatedly squandered.
