Reposting here from the Canadian Men's thread on Monday:
In case anyone was wondering about Edrian Paul Celestino, 20, who finished 18th in senior at 2018 Canadian Nationals (and 12th the year before; won CAN junior silver & bronze medals and competed 3 times on the JGP - link to his ISU bio: http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00015005.htm ), he just won the Senior Men's title at Philippine Nationals over the weekend.

Celestino last represented Canada as a junior in October 2016 so I assume he has been released by now.
Christopher Caluza returned from a 4-year hiatus (living the cruise ship life) to win the silver medal at Philippine Nationals (Nov. 25-26). He originally was listed for Golden Spin of Zagreb but his name has since been removed; bronze medalist Yamato Rowe's name is still listed.

Alisson Krystle Perticheto did not compete at Philippine Nationals last week. ETA that Seerek mentioned earlier that she won Bosporus Cup this week. This was her first full international of the season (she WD from CS Lombardia after the SP) and her total score in Istanbul was 153.25 (103.37 in FS; 51.64 TES which exceeds the Worlds required minimum of 49). Her TES was higher in her SP at 2017 SEA Games (27.16) but still short of the 29 required for Worlds.
Some developments

Edrian Celestino appears to switching from Canada to Philippines after competing at their nationals.

Allison Petricheto won Bosphorus Cup.

Christy Leung was 6th in [CS] Tallinn.

Teaching ice skating in Hanoi: https://borneobulletin.com.bn/teaching-ice-skating-in-hanoi/
Born and raised in the Eastern European country of Ukraine, Paul Yaruk ventured to a new country in 2013 for a new life teaching children the sport he loves – ice skating.
“We arrived in June in Hanoi to get ready for the opening of the Vincom Ice Rink at Royal City,” he said. “I had never been to Asia before.”
After two years of experience teaching children and adults in Kharkov, Ukraine, he ventured to a new country in 2013 for a new life teaching children the sport he loves.
June is usually the hottest month in Hanoi. Temperatures rise as high as 40 degrees or more.
But Paul Yaruk, 22 years old when he arrived, did not need to worry about the heat because he would be spending his days at the city’s first indoor ice rink in the Vincom Royal City Mega Mall.
Yaruk graduated from the Kharkov State Academy of Physical Culture with a degree in cyclic sports. He was a medallist in national and international competitions, and participated in the ISU NRW Trophy, Golden Lynx and the Ukrainian Junior Championship.
All of the rink’s Vietnamese trainers were trained by Yaruk and two other professional ice skaters, one of whom is now his girlfriend. Eleanora Vinnichenko is a national champion of Ukraine. “She teaches single skating,” Yaruk said. “I’m teaching pair skating.”
At the rink, people mostly learn single skating, but there is a Vietnamese pair – a brother and sister – who are working with Yaruk. “They are making some progress and they also go abroad to skate. They work so hard, they have no time to sleep.”
Vietnam is not an ISU member at this time.

Alissa Czisny and Ryan Bradley joined Craig Heath in Hong Kong for shows, Dec. 20-23, 2018:

Hong Kong's Yi Christy Leung is skating, as a guest presumably, at Chinese Nationals this weekend - she currently is in 2nd place (65.93) after the SP.

Re-posting this Yi Christy Leung article here from the Chinese skating news thread:
According to this article (https://news.sina.com.tw/article/20181230/29485176.html), the temperature in Harbin bothered her [Leung], and she couldn't find her feel for jumps and had to take a few days to accustom. She was born in HK but trained in BJ for 4 years before going to Tammy (interestingly she is also attending highschool in HK?!). She said she has tried quads but hasn't succeeded yet.
ETA: https://hk.sports.appledaily.com/sports/realtime/article/20181230/59086918
Google translated excerpt from the end:
Ye Xiaoyan, Chairman of the Hong Kong Skating Federation, praised [Yi Christy Leung's] performance and believed that she was able to take it to the next level. “Today’s victory with more than 10 points represents her true level. She participated in the most difficult game of the whole game, from technical points. And the performance points have won the competition. The historical achievement for Hong Kong is only a milestone in her skating career, I believe she will create more first for Hong Kong ice and snow in the future."

From ISU Communication No. 2234 - Decisions of the Council (published March 27, 2019):
"The ISU Council granted provisional ISU Membership for the Figure Skating Branch to the Skating
Federation of Vietnam."
https://www.isu.org/inside-isu/about/member-federations/239-skating-federation-of-vietnam

ETA - IF the 'A' in OAS also can encompass Central and/or South American countries, the ISU, in the same Communication, also has granted provisional ISU Memberships for the Figure Skating Branches to:
the Chilean National Figure Skating Federation: https://www.isu.org/inside-isu/abou...37-chilean-national-figure-skating-federation
and the Peruvian Ice Skating Federation: https://www.isu.org/inside-isu/about/member-federations/238-peruvian-skating-federation

Re-posting here from the OES thread (CC: @Dobre):
Could someone possibly bump up or refresh my memory of the title for the obscure 4CC athletes thread? After 4CCs, it seems like there are few comments I have wanted to add but I can't remember the abbreviation for that thread title. In any case, it would be nice to post this link from the ISU's current article about Donovan Carrillo somewhere:

^^^ Thanks (but I don't think we can call Tursynbaeva an "OAS" any longer. ;))

Julian Yee won the Malaysian Nationals Senior Men's event with Kai Xiang CHEW 2nd and Aina Sorfina MOHD AMINUDIN defended her Senior Ladies' title. Here's a recap article: https://www.thestar.com.my/sport/community-sports/2019/04/18/figure-skaters-making-their-mark/
Excerpts:
The 22-year-old [Yee] returned to Malaysia from his current base in Canada for this championship and to conduct a workshop.
...
“I’m not over the moon, it was subpar by my standards, I was a bit derailed, maybe because it is towards the end of the season.”
On preparing for the SEA Games [in the Philippines in December 2019], he said, “Now is the time to try new elements so that there is time to readjust. There is always pressure and I’m always nervous but I will try to overcome it.”
Yee also fulfilled his goal to start his own figure skating academy last year while juggling between studies, coaching and training.
Another notable competitor was 20-year-old Chew Kai Xiang who came in second in the Senior Men’s category.
He was unhappy about his mistakes during the free skate programme but was satisfied with his score nonetheless and felt it was his best performance this season.
“Prior to the nationals, I trained two hours in the morning and also coached some of the younger contenders.
“After this championship, I feel I have to work on my stamina. I need to work on the programmes and aim for more difficult jumps,” he said.
Kai Xiang also needs a coach and hopes to go to the United States for training.
“I didn’t have a coach the entire season, I trained myself,” he said.
:(

Held in IOI City Mall, Putrajaya, this was the first Figure Skating National Championships organised by the Malaysia Ice Skating Federation (MISF) since its inception in December 2018. ...
At the National Figure Skating Championship, skaters competed in a total of 10 categories, ranging from Rising Stars level (beginners) to Seniors, which is the level skated at the World Championships and Winter Olympics.
...
MISF protem exco Datin Laila Ismail said at 89, it was the highest number of competitors in the history of the championship.
“This group of youngsters have worked hard. There was tremendous improvement at the novice levels; this is good because for future development, we need those in the younger categories to do well.
“In Malaysia, figure skating used to be mostly recreational but now with Yee showing the way, we see that it is possible to make it to the Olympics for figure skating,” she said.
Re. the sentence I bolded above, the previous governing body, Ice Skating Association of Malaysia (ISAM) was "de-registered by the Sports Commissioner for failing to present financial reports from 2008 to 2014 and 2015 to 2017" according to this January 2019 article: https://www.thestar.com.my/sport/ot...as-governing-body-of-ice-skating-under-probe/

MISF will hold its inaugural AGM on Sunday, April 28: https://www.facebook.com/events/776483819418767/

The event in August [2019 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy] is being held in China but it will be run by the Hong Kong Figure Skating Association. Someone on the ISU Technical Panel was telling me about this. The only difference is they gave slightly different dates, as the 5th to the 9th of August.
Thanks to @insideedgeua as I was confused about this competition, which is currently listed on the HK fed. website's calendar:
Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy
When: Aug 5 – 9, 2019
Where: To be advised
(refer to my post #132 above for the TPE skater selections)

ETA:

@Marco, are you interested in attending Hong Kong Nationals, May 7-8, if Yi Christy Leung competes?

Feature article on Chloe Ing:
Excerpt:
... sitting down in an interview with Mothership during a brief return to Singapore following her figure-skating SEA Games win and before going back to Canada, Ing assures us that we should make no mistake — she considers herself Singaporean through and through.
The 21-year-old, who was born in Singapore but has been living in Toronto for more than a decade, recently brought home Singapore’s second gold in the ladies’ individual figure skating event...
Two of the most important factors throughout, for her at least, have been her relationship with her twin sister, Chantelle, and her identity as a Singaporean athlete living overseas.
Ing, who works part-time to help fund her own training fees, usually starts her days at 7am and only returns home way past sunset, around 10:30pm.
Her time is spent balancing her training sessions at Oakville Skating Club and Mariposa International Training Centre, classes at the University of Toronto (where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in health sciences and is on the Dean’s List), and her two jobs as an English tutor and part-time skating coach.

Christopher Caluza was interviewed back in October at 2019 Finlandia Trophy for IFS (video was uploaded on Dec. 30, 2019):

Caluza won the men's silver medal for the host country Philippines in early December at the second South East Asian (SEA) Games that featured figure skating - link to the competition thread with videos, results & protocols: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/seasian-games-philippines-nov-29-dec-1-2019.106455/

The other SEA Games medalists were Malaysia's Julian Yee and Singapore's Chloe Ing (gold), Philippines' Alisson Krystle Perticheto (silver), Thailand's Micah Kai Lynette (12/20/19 Richmond News article linked below) and Indonesia's Savika Refa Zahira (bronze).

Gamez/Paradis are working their way on getting their technical minimums.

Four Continents was achieved, now they just need the World's.
I checked and they have the FS TES min for Worlds, but missed the SP one by 0.06 points in Zagreb. Sooooo close!

Isabella Gamez announced today (Aug. 21) that she and Montreal-based David-Alexandre Paradis have ended their pairs partnership and that she hopes to find a new partner for the Philippines: https://www.instagram.com/p/CEKd3vvJUxa/

Anyone know why Julian Yee Zhi-Jie isn't at Four Continents?
My very belated reply... perhaps it was partly an economic decision (since 4CC was in Korea) and/or he decided to focus solely on training for his "home" Worlds in Montreal?

Julian posted this on his Instagram back on March 5: https://www.instagram.com/p/B9YIZDoH5An/
Guess what everyone!? I've always found that my journey in figure skating has been extremely interesting and unexpected...that is to me at least. Hence I figured that it would be great to share it with you guys. So I decided to write a book about my journey and how I began skating, along with all the other interesting experiences and difficulties that I faced growing up and pursuing my goal.
My book, 'Skating On The Edge - The Unexpected Journey of Malaysia's First Olympic Figure Skater' is now available at all MPH Bookstores in Malaysia!
Link to his publisher's page:

Julian's latest IG stories have been documenting his trip home to Malaysia; he currently is undergoing the mandatory 14-day quarantine in a hotel room there.
