I've seen the better videos of the dances at Lombardia. I must say that M/M left a great impression. Hope this is just the beginning for them.

I like Maria and Partner from Georgia but I find their programs a bit bland. Same for G/F.

I know they were not at Lombardia but I really liked the Smart/Dick RD...Shows promise looking forward to a better FD. Olivia has charisma and style in spades.

I cringe at what Zhulin may have for us this weekend If its more of what he gave B/S and S/K for similarly themed RDs. Help....

So anyway, on the distracting, stupider/funnier side of drama:
The origin of that came from this last spring:

That video Trankov did happened back then. Whoever posted the thing you shared is either late to the game or trying to get that story to take flight again because it was all a bit of a damp squib back then.

I've been a big fan of Maria Kazakova & Georgy Reviya since they first appeared on the Junior scene. However Davis & Smolkin have won three Junior medals: 2018 at the Czech Republic JGP, 2019 at the Russian JGP and the JGP I personally attended in 2019 in Lake Placid.
Thank you for that clarification. It does not change my assessment of their skating.

Oh NO! Not him and his programs. I'll just have to sit back and endure the levels of cringe.
I just can' t with his students either.

after all the black costumes, I think Olivia Smart has kind of nailed the 80s look? Like her costume looks like photos I’ve seen of my parents and their friends in the 80s in the UK
I think it was modeled a bit after this editorial spread of Gigi Hadid for W magazine that Carlos Nazadio did and was seemingly inspired by Debbie Harry.

I wasn’t much of a Smart/Diaz fan and don’t normally enjoy Olivia, but I can get behind trashy. I surprised myself, but I liked their RD for a first outing.

I'm behind on this thread because I haven't watched any of the Autumn Classic event yet, but I need to pop in and say . . .

Wheee! For Tkachenko & Kiliakov and their 8 yeses on the keypoints + 4 level 3s on the midline and diagonal step sequences, all despite Judy on the panel, finishing both portions of the event with the highest base value in the field.

(That's the little team that did the same with the pattern dances during most of their final season of novices. Roughly four years of climbing the ranks in juniors, but here they are breaking through on the international scene).

Also, I want to add Tkachenko & Kiliakov and Kishimoto & Tamura's RDs to my previous list of 80s RDs this season that feel like a cohesive whole.

Also kudos to Kishimoto & Tamura for such a nice start. I find this partnership quite promising. Both have good expression, plus her flexibility is impressive.

What a great field we had for this JGP event!

Can you explain the “despite Judy on the panel”? Inquiring minds want to know.

From the last time I answered this question in the Dance Hall;):

"She's quite picky on the pattern. She called the 2020 European Championships. At that event, the panel called 7 Basics, 6 Level 1s, 9 Level 2s, 2 Level 3s (S&B and S&K), and 2 Level 4s (P&C and G&F)."

Thank you IAM team for the diversity of RD and FD we've seen thus far. I sincerely thank you for your creativity and diversity. Am somewhat disappointed after watching Russian Test skates not one pair is audacious enough to have an original thought. There were bright spots but there were few. Thank you for the programs of Smart and Dieck and others I'm forgetting. Its been a great week for ice dance.

Some quotes from Marie-France Dubreuil at Autumn Classic: https://twitter.com/LynnRutherford/status/1703220017926668641
Asked M-F Dubreuil how she likes the 80s RD: "All summer I worked on 80s music. At the end of the day I had the biggest headache, because its high-pitched music that is very saturated, and after 8 hours of blasting speakers at training...my nervous system was tired." (1/2)
More on 80s RD from M-F: "It’s hard to know how much to go into the era, and not have it be a parody. There is a fine line that needs to be negotiated. We tried to pick music that can be a singalong, so people in the stands can have fun, transform it into a karaoke." 2/2

Fully agree. However, I enjoyed watching their junior dancers more than the seniors. I personally found the senior dancers more of a "beauty pageant" featuring very slender girls with fine, fine features, zero talent apart from afew of course. Well JMHO. The men were just there to present their "babes". So sad. So, so sad. Sorry to upset the fans..

Agreed. I still remember a memorable junior RD that had a robot theme. Really cool.

Its just traditional nothing to apologize for. Its a highly aesthetic sport with very culturally expected norms...its the system...

After rewatching Lopareva and Brissaud at the Autumn Classic (rhythm dance), I looked up a video of the song they used, Sans contrefacon by Mylene Farmer. The video explains her costume. Would have been quite voidy if Brissaud had copied the costume worn by the male dance members of the group.
Let's hear it for the French!

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that Lopareva/Brissaud always skate to the melody of their music? Even in the "Rhythm" dance, they still skated to the melody of their music. It makes them look (to my eyes) like pairs skaters (they just need to add throws and overhead lifts to complete the look).

Say, mummy, why am I not a boy ?

Since I must choose,
In soft words, I can say this.
Without forgery, I'm a boy.
And for an empire, I won't undress as
Without forgery, I'm a boy.

All alone in my closet, my eyes outlined in black,
Sheltered from the gazes, I stand up to chance.
In this world that has neither head nor tail,
I do only as I please.
A handkerchief in the crotch of my pants,
I'm Chevalier d'Eon.

Since I must choose,
In soft words, I can say this.
Without forgery, I'm a boy.
And for an empire, I won't undress as
Without forgery, I'm a boy.

One by one, I'm chased from your company.
I won't allow anyone to threaten my resolutions.
I don't give a damn about what others might say.
I'm cameleon.
Beware of my tin soldiers,
They are the ones that will kill you.

Since I must choose,
In soft words, I can say this.
Without forgery, I'm a boy.
And for an empire, I won't undress as
Without forgery, I'm a boy.

The song is about a little girl who refuses to behave the way the society is expecting from her (and as a 10 yo who prefered the boy's games, legos and trousers, I related very much to this song in the 80s). But Mylene Farmer is very gay friendly and has used a gay imagery half of her tours' performances of this song over 36 years. It has become a usual theme for gay prides and drag performances.

I would actually prefer L/B to skate to it in a pop style rather than an homage to the videoclip (even if Farmer's videoclips are legendary some nudity and a bloody catfight inside ; this one truly fascinated me as a child).

Thank you for the translation to English!

Oh my that last link will haunt me without understanding the words of the song.

So far I have to say I have been disappointed with the RD and the music choices. So much great music in the 80s from different genres and all we're getting are the usual suspects. Also, the steps and patterns are not doing these RD any favors. The few dances I like are more to do with the choregraphy and costumes than with the music. G/F RD has some good choreographed moments but the music edits are horrible.
