Almost a year since I last posted? But what a year eh? Anyway I've been uploading a few bits and bobs if anyone is interested?

1967 Worlds - Moskvina & Mishin FS (with a most entertaining piece to camera afterwards ;) )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2-aaNFXt5o&t=8s

1978 Europeans - Yuri Ovchinnikov Exhibition (awesome footwork!!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8dzqlYxTCs

1972 Europeans - Pakhomova & Gorshkov FD (this is the one event they were beaten at between 1970 and 1976)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0vqflKegoU&t=49s

1972 Europeans - Buck & Buck FD (the German brother and sister team who beat P&G. Imagine if there was internet back then???)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gG_kyHwLR8&t=298s

One of my favourite parts of collecting all thsi stuff is the opportunity to share it with the skaters themselves. One of those was Janet Sawbridge who was most famous for being the genius to pair up Torvill & Dean. But she had a stellar international career herself. Sadly, Janet passed away one year ago and i uploaded this for her family.

1972 Europeans - Janet Sawbridge & Peter Dalby Gigi Exhibition
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nlvFQZ1f0s&t=14s

More fantastic ice dance from yesteryear. Here's a special exhibition where two dance teams have a little fun with pattern dances, complete with a little parter swapping at the end...as you do ;)

1971 Worlds - Schwomeyer & Sladky and Buck & Buck CD Exhibition
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqXmtMSgmOo&t=68s

Footage of compulsory dances is very rare even from the 1970's and 80's...

1982 Europeans - Torvill & Dean Yankee Polka CD (part)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BY8h0m0auc

This video has caused a bit of excitement among former skaters. At the 1975 Worlds as part of the exhibition, three new compulsory dances were demonstrated.

1975 Worlds CD demonstration exhibition with Swomeyer & Sladky (Yankee Polka), Regozcy & Sallay (Ravensburger Waltz) and Pakhomova & Gorshkov (Tango Romantica).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cNGzCEkDNk&t=49s

1980 Olympics - Regozcy & Sallay OSP (OSP's from this era are rarer than hens teeth!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8frR5sC_Jw&t=93s

1978 Europeans - Kay Barsdell & Kenneth Foster CD (Rare early compulsory dance. Some here may know Kay and Ken who both coach out in New Jersey I believe, or did.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQz5Dbrh-hk&t=23s

Back to Schwomeyer & Sladky because they were awesome and way ahead of their time...

1968 Worlds - Schwomeyer & Sladky FD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpkavaTHnLc&t=111s

Enjoy! :D
I used to see a woman named Sladky commentating on FS back in the early 80s outside of The Wide World of Sports

Same one, Judy married her partner and was doing commentary for ESPN/ABC events.

What a fabulous exhibition from Janet and Peter! It's crazy to think this was televised fifty years ago (and that I have been following the sport for over 40 years as well).

Thank you so much.

I love how the audience applauded the partner swapping. Such a smooth transition between them, too. Both couples didn't miss a beat.

What a lovely way to start the weekend. Thank you @floskate

Watching the Schwomeyer & Sladky and Buck & Buck exhibition, I am reminded of a friend who said that at a competition years ago she saw in person, Krylova/Ovsiannokov and Gritschuk/Platov were practicing their compulsories on the same ice so closely together, it gave the impression both couples wanted to kill each other.

Believe it or not, I missed 22 Worlds (!). IOW, for the 1st time, I failed to watch Worlds since like 1979. I scoured Youtube but can't find anything except the occasional fan-cam. Does anyone know if they exist on Youtube? Can't believe I am searching incorrectly.

Watching Worlds this year was rewarding and joyful, especially for a Worlds after an Olympics. Do you only watch Worlds online or do you mind downloading? Perhaps some of us can help with upload links if there isn't anything online.

Update: YouTube channel Skating ISU has many Worlds videos, you do have to scroll down to find them

Plusdinfo, perhaps you could watch Worlds by downloading the events. Or do you prefer watching online? I'm afraid I can't find links of complete events other than those of ISU. :(

Either way of watching works, but I'm unsuccessful attempting to do either ;).

Cheers.

I note that Peacock has put back up the videos of Worlds. You will need to pay the $5.00 fee and Pairs short is still not there, but you can see the rest of the videos.

And for those of you who always fancied taking a lesson from John Curry - now you can! In 1989 he made a five-part series called Curry on Ice where he coached a group of mixed ability skaters through the basics of skating skills, jumping and spinning. Among the skaters was a very young Neil Wilson, the two-time British champion who now coaches in Canada. Here's the playlist link for all five episodes:

^ What a treat to see BB at such a young age. The face didn't look like Brian at all, LOL. That was a very mature performance for a 14 years old, especially from a boy too. I think Brian could've made a big artistic impact during his early career if he had worked with the right choreographer/stylist before teaming up with Bezic in 88.

Wow! That aged shockingly well!

His stature is completely different but those field moves are distinctively his to this day.

The arm position in the 2Lp is ahead of its time.
This was craaaazy good for a 14 year old boy, I didn't know what to expect but it wasn't this. His control was insane even then!
