Two new uploads for Jay Humphry who posts in the CFP vintage freestyle FB page. Jay was twice Canadian Champion and in 1969 finished second at the North Americans and was third in free skating at his final worlds. A brilliant free skater, he had very modern jump technique for the era and a terrific triple toe loop. Enjoy these rare glimpses of his skating.

In floskate's vid of her 1969 Canadian nationals win, Linda Carbonetto-Villella was quite candid in explaining why she turned pro in 1969 (honestly, I don't blame her and I think she did the right thing).

Another one. Schwarz & Koenig's bronze medal winning performance from the 1988 European championships. They never really lived up to their potential.

Wow I hadn't seen this in years. How was this nearly 30 years ago? I remember so clearly watching them skate and loving this pair. So dynamic, powerful and sadly so horribly inconsistent. Nice to see this re-surface again to remind everyone what a great pair they were.

A few years back, I taped a skating marathon from ESPN Classic. Included in that marathon was the 1988 World Pro. Of course, I no longer have ESPN Classic because it's now only offered through the Sports Pack with DirecTV. So, I was really glad that I had the opportunity to tape it when it was included with the package I had at the time.

Lea Ann Miller & Bill Fauver - skate to O Mio Babbino Caro

Barbara Underhill & Paul Martini skate to Tonight

Kitty & Peter Carruthers skate to Hot Hot Hot

Dorothy Hamill skates to One Moment In Time

Debi Thomas skates to License To Kill/Diamonds Are Forever/Your Eyes Only

Dorothy Hamill skates to Zippety Do Dah

Rosalynn Sumners skates to Walk Like An Egyptian

Denise Biellmann skates to The Beat Goes On

Debi Thomas skates to Etude In E Flat

And a very ambitious program too. SBS triple toe loops, throw triple salchow, and SBS double axels all after the half-way point.

They didn't look as good in 1989 and they looked awful in 1990. They never really regained their mojo after that although they would show flashes of brilliance every now and then. Even in the Albertville LP, they started off terribly but then they did very nice throws and SBS double axels, and then she fell on a simple choreographic move. They could be maddening to watch sometimes.

Another German team from that era that I thought skated relatively well in Albertville was Woetzel and Rauschenbach. I think their marks in the LP could've been a touch higher.

Here's some more new uploads from me, in response to some requests from the skaters themselves. There's a vintage Canadian focus here:

Barbara Berezowski & David Porter - 1973 Worlds FD

This next one is a real treat! Lynn Nightingale made her international début at this competition and placed THIRD in free skating behind Karen Magnussen and Janet Lynn. Incredible skate.

Great to see Ron Shaver already add a nice comment to the video.

It appears the French commentators offered a rather directed slight to Beatrix Schuba after Lynn's program ended, saying in so many words that the women's free skating in 1973 was "far more entertaining now and has reached a new level".

Lots of thanks, floskate! I've wondered what Smirnova & Suraikin's skating was like for over 20 years and it was great to actually get to see them. Also Jay Humphry was really great!

There's some new clips on my youtube channel.

After the infamous sound issues in the pairs event, Irina and Alexander decided to skate the second half of their LP in exhibition WITH music this time. But there were still issues

One of the best performances by the Protopopov's that I have ever seen....

The American pair before Starbuck and Shelley were the brother and sister team of Cynthia & Ron Kauffman. Perhaps they are known more for their death spiral mishaps which caused them to miss out on a medal at both the 1968 Olympics and 1969 Worlds - their final amateur performance. However when they got it right they really did electrify the crowds with some innovative moves and one of the first throw jumps in pair skating.

Here's the earliest performance of Pakhomova & Gorshkov that I have found. The disparity between their skating abilities is ridiculous but it serves to show that he did indeed improve greatly by 1976 and that she was always fantastic! :D

This one is really special:

There must be some on here who remember the skating of Jennie Walsh; 1967 World team member for the USA. But equally her skating will be new to many others, myself included. This is truly brilliant free skating; way ahead of its time and woefully under-marked by the judges. I just hope Jennie and her skating get the recognition they deserve 50 years after the fact. Please feel free to share.

:swoon: Ina Bauer into 2Lz . . . such modern construction . . . It makes me wonder what might have been had Peggy Fleming not switched from Peter Betts to politician extraordinaire Carlo Fassi after winning her first US Nationals in 1964 . . . although I have heard that Peggy was, indeed, extraordinary in figures, regardless, so the coach might have not made much of a difference.

Wow! Jennie Walsh was also a speed skater!

There were transitions in and out of pretty much everything, and a more modern jumping style compared to others from that era. Kind of unfortunate that kind of program wasn't rewarded back then.

Some people might know Jennie Walsh's son Jered Guzman would go on to be a U.S. junior pairs champ and senior pairs pewter medalist.
