Adam was on Nightline last night(ABC) interviewing the fab five of Queer Eye as a Special Correspondent. In addition, I just happened to turn on the Tennis Channel to watch the BNP Paribus Open and low and behold, he was sitting up in the commentators' booth with Mary Carrillo and Martina Navratilova! He spoke about the fact that he had been at the US Open at the Serena/Naomi final, indicating that he loves watching tennis but knows absolutely nothing about it.

He also plugged his new book Beautiful on the Outside, showing the cover which made Mary and Martina crack up. He seems to be at home wherever he goes and whatever the event/purpose is.

Thanks for keeping us updated about Adam's busy life, @Sylvia, et al.

I took the time to watch the linked video, and I was not disappointed. Although I've seen AOL Build interview episodes before, I've never seen this version of their series format. Much of the hip, cool, current cultural chatter is news to me and a bit beyond my ken. But it's always good hearing what the current gen is up to, and how they think.

The last part with W. Kamau Bell was outstanding. I've seen Bell's show on CNN a few times, and I've been impressed, and sometimes blown away by Bell's talent, his guests, unexpected special moments and some groundbreaking connections and inspirations. It's so wonderful that Bell spent life-changing time with Anthony Bourdain as he traveled with Bourdain on trips to African countries, and that Bell credits Bourdain with the success of his own show, United Shades of America.

Adam seems to fit in so well with everyone he's been working with so far on all these different shows and projects. We all know Adam of course. We witnessed his struggles as an athlete, and his late skating career transformation as he worked through his self-doubts and learned how to accept his unique differences, how to be himself, and how to express himself fully on the ice! In the process, Adam never lost his sassy wit and his cool sense of humor.

I'm not able to keep up with all that Adam is doing these days, but I'm happy for his success. He owns it, he's worked hard for it, and he deserves it! I wish him all the best with his new series, Break the Ice, and his new Youtube channel. :cheer2:

More about Adam's new show, and his decision to retire. However, I was interested in the brief discussion of the latest newly appointed president of US Gymnastics, Li Li Leung, as that sport tries to recover from the Larry Nassar scandal. Since they were asking Adam, at first I thought it was a reference to a young, newly appointed president of U.S. figure skating! No such luck of course. :( But that's surely what figure skating needs too in the 21st-century.

I love the styling of Adam's new book cover. :encore: I also really enjoyed Adam's interview with Larry King. I had a huge smile on my face watching. :D Larry is such a good interviewer, I learned some things I didn't know about Adam:
He said he likely won't have children, but he wants to have two French bulldogs; :D His favorite skating performances by other skaters: Michelle Kwan 1998 U.S. Nats; Yu Na Kim 2010 Olympics; Alexei Yagudin 2002 Olympics; and his own favorite performances are those at the 2018 Olympics. I guess those were Adam's own personal favorites because of the occasion and because they were the final performances of his career and thus held so much meaning for him due to the long and winding path to get there.

Adam performed at a high level in Pyeongchang, but I will always remember his breakthrough performances at 2015 U.S. Nats as my AdaRipp favorites, along with: 2016 Skate America; 2016 Trophee de France; and 2016 Worlds. Adam also skated well during the 2017 GP series (at SA and NHK). I'll always remember this video performance too, as it was the first incarnation of 'O' which was initially created as an exhibition:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0yYr9o-d2U I'm so glad he adapted for his fp just before the start of 2016 - 2017 season, and then kept it for two seasons, instead of saving it solely for the Olympic season.

Adam's answer to a question about sportsmanship and handling competition, is great advice for athletes:
"When you focus on yourself and doing your personal best, you ... realize that more for someone else doesn't mean less for you. Everyone in that competition has worked their butt off to be there and to be their best. You aren't in control of those results, and jealousy is just taking your energy away from what you could be putting into your own performance. When you're able to be someone else's cheerleader, you are almost giving back to yourself ... and kinda amplifying your own ego. It doesn't mean that you become complicit with your own results. You can push yourself, you can want to be better than other people. But if you can't be happy for other people, then that's when you become stagnant."

And here's Adam answering fans' Twitter questions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZppMDGXq78

Who Adam would want to take with him on a desert island: Chris Knierim (he's a strong pairs guy so he could chop wood); Mirai Nagasu (she's super funny); Nathan Chen (he goes to Yale, and we'd need someone with brains).

When Larry King asked Adam which three people he'd like to have dinner together with, he answered: Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Sarah Silverman.

The first person he goes over to hug after he's done skating is Tai Babilonia.

Here's Adam's introduction before he skated in Santa Monica (apologizing to Bradley Cooper for cutting out his part :D) via On Ice Perspectives' IG: https://www.instagram.com/p/BwmLtlLFlPJ/

I miss Adam's skating... glad his full performance is up on YT at last!

Adam Rippon is an American for the Equality Act (video uploaded by the Human Rights Campaign on April 29, 2019): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkikYyCi6d0
The Olympic figure skater, "Dancing with the Stars" champ, and "America's Sweetheart" talks about his support for the Equality Act, a bill that would add LGBTQ protections to existing federal law. Text EQUALITY ACT to 472472 to become a Community Co-Sponsor today.
This article (from Romper, a motherhood publication) made me laugh: Adam Rippon Loves All The Moms

It's pretty astounding how readily Adam became part of the fabric of mainstream American celebrity.

He's making a career out of it. This is quite a good article about what he's up to these days...

Adam Rippon is making his move to media host, on and off the ice

And for those who live in the New York area, Adam will be at Book Con on June 1, promoting his new autobiography (even though it's not coming out until this fall). He will be part of a discussion panel, and doing a meet and greet.

Thanks, @vgerdes! Here's the link to his BookCon talk next Saturday at the Javits Center in NYC: https://www.bookcon.com/en/Sessions...-Medalist-and-Dancing-with-the-Stars-Champion

Adam also is scheduled to appear at VidCon in Anaheim, CA, in July: https://www.tubefilter.com/2019/05/14/vidcon-david-dobrik-adam-rippon-neal-mohan/

ETA an enlightening excerpt from the article linked above:
Yet Rippon has quickly learned that being a successful host or interviewer doesn’t rely on just “winging it.” Beyond his interest in having an engaging conversation with a subject, there are producers, directors and executives all looking for different things in a TV interview he conducts.
With various cooks in the kitchen, he has to make sure the conversation feels genuine, authentic, organic... and fits the needs of big-time media corporations he hopes will hire him.
It’s the nature of the business.
“Having a normal conversation with people is completely different from doing an interview, or bringing the conversational aspect into an interview. It can feel really produced, when you’re trying to do something authentic. You want to hit those moments for the producer, but you also want it to feel real.”

Adam Rippon reveals in memoir that he once hated ice skating

Adam Rippon wasn’t always a fan of the sport that earned him an Olympic medal in 2018, he writes in his upcoming memoir, “Beautiful on the Outside.”

“To set the tone for the book, the first sentence is ‘When I first started skating, I f—king hated it,'” Rippon, 29, told Page Six at the Moët & Chandon event for the launch of the Moët Riviera Spritz in New York Wednesday.

I guess the good news is that he changed his opinion. :)

Pity about the vulgarity, though. :(

Article about his YouTube channel: https://frntofficesport.com/break-the-ice/
This week, he’ll vlog from BookCon, where he’s promoting his new memoir, “Beautiful on the Outside.”

“What I hope with the vlogs is to really show behind the scenes of what I do, like these are the things you do when you’re promoting a book,” Rippon said. “As opposed to Twitter or Instagram, it’s an unedited version, so you can get to know someone. And when the content is a little bit more long form, you get to know that person a little better, feel like you’re catching up.”
ETA:

Adam did an Instagram/FB Live from BookExpo in NYC on Thursday to talk about his book (17 mins.): https://www.facebook.com/adaripp89/videos/795901484142771/
Pity about the vulgarity, though. :(
He did say it's his favorite word in the FB Live chat, though. :D

Here's a recent InStyle article where Adam talks about sexy topics like figure skating finances and doing his taxes!

E.g.: This is my first year I didn’t do my own taxes. When you’re a figure skater, it’s pretty easy, because all you have is a million expenses. It’s not like, ‘I have to hide this in a Swiss bank account.'
