Women comprise 35% of Academy membership. It would be interesting to find out how the votes differ from men to women.

Totally. I am a man and can we please have the reverse. can we please have a redo with 65% of voters being women.

I always feel like straight men ruin everything lol. (Like can we please see a Pete Buttigieg presidency). Like all of the fraud when crash, which is a D minus movie at best won best picture over the beautiful Brokeback Mountain. Leaving presenter Jack Nicholson absolutely shocked on stage. I even have two gay men that live on my street and They told me a long time ago they were paid by the studio to switch their vote to crash. And the studio didn’t know that they were gay men.

I crapped my pants when moonlight won best picture, but that was sketchy and fishy and sus from the very start when they gave it to La La Land and then did a ooopsy-whoopsy. Who knows what really happened lol.

I had to watch parts of The Substance through my hands, but there's no way I wasn't going to watch it. And while it's not remotely subtle, the cinematography and direction are great, Demi was fantastic, and the message was as OTT as it needs to be, to be honest.

I haven't seen Anora yet, a friend loved it most of all BP nominations and she's over the moon tonight. I've seen some clips and feel like I've already seen it.

I saw Emilia Perez when visiting my mom just because it was the only nominated film on channels she had that she hadn't seen yet. Knew nothing going in. We were both like  We watched Conclave (my mom had already seen it) later to clear our brains.

I really want to see FLOW, Sing Sing, and I'm Still Here

Kieran basically played himself. I liked the movie but I really disliked his character lol. I'm happy my fave company won some awards (a24)

Yeah. He really was "a real pain" on screen and off. He almost canceled being in the movie at the last minute, possible putting an end to the movie. Emma Stone personally flew with him and escorted him there. And he would show up on set without having learned his lines, etc. But, that character does make the movie. It's questionable whether he's really a supporting actor or a co-lead.

This was the highlight of the ceremony for me. Wonderfully spoken by the winners. :)

Israeli minister of culture has already complained loudly about the film and the win. And it doesn’t have a U.S. distributor, wonder why.

But gazillions watch the Oscars and even if they never see the movie, they can appreciate what was said.

(I haven’t looked but I’m sure the extreme Palestinian factions also vilified their guys for “normalization” and working with Israelis. Extremist idiocy works both ways.)

WHEE!!! This was fun! 😃

Next up on the awards schedule: The 2025 Tony Awards! 🎭

Nominations announced: May 1, 2025
Awards: June 8, 2025 on CBS and Paramount+

I’m considering taking the train to NYC for a long weekend sometime this spring. I’m wondering what the buzz is on Broadway right now. 🤔

The 2025 Tony Awards nominations were announced yesterday.

So……are some of these pretty good? Has anyone in NYC seen some of these plays and/or musicals? 🤔

The 2025 Tony Awards will be airing on June 8 on CBS with Cynthia Erivo as the host.
I saw Audra McDonald in Gypsy, and as a huge fan, I was not sure how I was going to enjoy her soprano singing a score that is usually sung in a more brassy chest voice sort of way. I get the McDonald hype now. It's not just her clear voice, but it's her acting. She was sensational and I think she had the best "Rose's Turn" I've seen. Other parts of the production were good, but I had a few more notes for, but I enjoyed this take on a well-worn show.

It’s an incredibly stacked year. A lot of snubs for performances that would have probably been nominated in other years… and I don’t mean that decimated Covid year with Moulin Rouge and 1 nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Musical.

It also seems like a lot of A-Listers are doing Broadway right now.

Most predictions I saw said that Othello wasn't very good and they expected it to get few nominations. I saw some predictions picking Gyllenhaal for the nom and none picking Washington. The ones I saw predicted Kieran Culkin, but they said that he wasn't the standout.

So horrifically snubbed seems... like drama from people who don't know anything about theatre and just think movie stars should be nominated.

But then you are linking to the NY Post...

Yes? As usual, at least some of the Tony nominees could be considered pretty good.

I don't follow Broadway super closely but I was very pleased to see Tala Ashe nominated for Featured Actress in a Play for English. She played one of my favourite characters on DC's Legends of Tomorrow and I had been hoping for good things for her career wise once things got back up and running again.
