The most wonderful story of a Trinidadian Canadian fan of Tessa Virtue (and Scott too of course though he barely rates a mention in this story of Canadian fandom). A beautifully written article, by the end it had me smiling.

My Mother and Tessa Virtue

Who was this woman who informed me she had attended Stars on Ice, when she wouldn’t even pay for an iced drink? It turned out that, watching the Olympics, she had fallen in love with ice dance. I tried to imagine her, sitting up night after night, cheering for Canada. What was it this couple had that years of residence in Canada had not been able to accomplish?

Olympic ice-dance champions Virtue and Moir: 'We’re so proud of our relationship' - interview by Eoin O'Callaghan in The Guardian:
Great article! It's very balanced.

Saw this posted in another thread. An article with Guillaume Côté about choreographing Virtue and Moir's number for Rock the Rink.

Tessa Virtue posted this old video of her acting out parts of the Moulin Rouge program while riding in the passenger seat of a car. The excitement is palpable. Kind of miss those days when we were waiting for the latest program.

The CTV article refers to Dubreuil and Lauzon as their “French coaches”. I guess the writer did not look them up.

But nice of them to be there. I believe Rod Black was there too!

So Scott Moir’s aunt paired him with both his future wife and his long term professional partner when he was 8-9? He owes her big time!

I miss them a lot. I am glad I still get to see them skate in shows though. I would laugh if they shocked everyone with a return for the 2022 Olympics.

How long did Scott skate with Jackie Mascarin? I can't seem to find any records of them in junior competitions.

From their wiki page: "Virtue and Moir were paired in 1997, at the ages of seven and nine."

The reference to Moir’s upcoming marriage came during his speech, when he thanked his aunt Carol, his former skating coach. “She’s pretty good at picking partners, I will say that,” he said, to audience laughter. The partnership with Tessa “seemed to last a little bit longer,” added.

“And the first one that she gave me is now my fiancée, so that works alright.”
...
While he hasn’t weighed in on the public announcement yet, Virtue playfully tweeted that she’s looking for a wedding date.
ETA that Mascarin is a Physician Assistant: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jackie-mascarin-16b104162

So Tessa is advertising Adidas now! One can hardly keep up with the opportunities for our girl. Tessa and Scott seem to be living the lives they want which makes me happy.
