Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir # 47: Come What May...

Question: does Romaine no longer work with Tessa and Scott? I totally get it if he doesn’t. He brought the French to Montreal but the Canadians came because of MFD and Patrice.

I’m already sick of people saying that this wardrobe malfunction is the reason Tessa and Scott won. Please. They won because they kicked ass!!!

I bet Tessa and Scott don't care what they are saying and neither do I. V/M won in grand style with two flawless skates. Their victory is all the sweeter to me because they won against all odds. Even Eurosport invited us to join them for the ice dance competition to watch Papadakis/Cizeron WIN the Olympic gold.

I'll take the wardrobe malfunction as a divine punishment for Gaillaguet. lol Will they fire him now? I hope so.

Virtue and Moir won because they skated the best all around. They won because their FD was good enough to compete with MS. They won because P&C errored on their twizzles and slipped on a lift and also had a wardrobe malfunction.

I find it quite laughable. Also all the other explanations for why Tessa and Scott won over the crowd, the viewers and in the end the medal are hilarious. I guess these people don't even get how obnoxious they come across: the Olympic crowd isn't as knowledgeable; MR/ the choreography /VM isn't/aren't as artistic / deep therefore easier to understand (for us dummies, I suppose?)
This dummy is quite happy and enjoyed and celebrated the gold medal of the greatest ice dancers of all time! So, I will enjoy their fifth (!) Olympic medal and will re-watch this shallow, non-artistic (;)) program for the umpteenth time. :cheer2:

Does anyone have NBC's version? I want to hear Tanith but I can't find it.

I know I'm probably the last one to see it but watching the medal ceremony made me teary-eyed again. I love to see them and their families so happy. Scott was giddy like a little boy. If anyone wants to re-watch it: https://vimeo.com/256564049

Thanks for posting the ceremony. I've watched their program so many times already and it is just as wonderful each time I see it.

If it took a wardrobe malfunction to compensate for the biased judging for P/C, then I'm fine with everyone saying they only won because of wardrobe malfunction.

P/C were also overmarked for what they offered in SD and had several judges (China, USA, Turkey) on the FD panel clearly for them. So they were helped with the scores even with the costume malfunction happening. I'm not blind to deny that Tessa and Scott didn't have any help from the judges with Leanna Caron and the Japanese judge.

And, don't get me wrong, P/C skated an absolutely brilliant free, and if their SD was on the same level, I would not even be talking about politiking. But their SD is nowhere near V/M IMO in terms of performance/interpretation, which are extremely subjective things, I know... but, objectively speaking, it wasn't skated perfectly, but it seems like the judges were going to give it to them anyways with those super high PCS (highest of the night???) and GOES regardless of what V/M did. So frankly, if it took a costume issue to balance all that out , all is fair in life.

That was insane! Rollercoaster ride for 2 seasons...didn't think my blood pressure can handle it lol I was a complete wreck watching the last 5 skaters skate. I knew they had it in them to do it but that rested on the judges' shoulders when it comes down to it ...

I'm just beyond ecstatic with V/M's OGM! :biggrinbo Winning with two fabulously choreographed programs ppl will talk about for years to come. Total redemption for that 2012-13 Carmen lift :D

I couldn't care less right now to talk about scores just yet. Just want to celebrate their last programs in competitive circuit - and feel proud of how well they skated under pressure at the Olympics yesterday.

Oh I have to say that Tessa look absolutely stunning in her new Olympic FD outfit. (Yes, I much prefer this upgrade from original than the one at Team event). They both looked ridiculously gorgeous side by side. So HOT!!!

Tessa & Scott, if you or your family happen to read this ... Thank you, thank you! For being not only the greatest ice dancers I've come to admire (and cheer for) but truly gracious good people. Yes, my daughter and I will never forget how ALL your programs made us feel. All those sweat and tears, wins & losses including your sharing the vulnerable parts of your lives during your career, we all also felt it deeply in our hearts.

Congratulations on your OGM win and best wishes & luck for what's coming next in your lives <3<3

Btw someone posted way earlier about this - commenting on what you dislike in a program doesn't equate to as one being whiny. We all know it was a process. All season long we have criticized but also rooted the best parts in MR's evolution. I felt as if they also heard our voices from here. In terms of ideas on appealing dance movements, better music choice cuts, and even fashion sense. (If I don't know any better, there must be :sekret: venturing here lol)

So will there be a new thread now?

I'm looking forward for the gala. I know that they've decide to skate to "Stay". Was hoping to see if they will do a new one now :p

Article with quotes from Tessa and Scott https://www.thestar.com/sports/olympics/2018/02/19/canadas-ice-dance-darlings-virtue-and-moir-capture-olympic-gold-in-pyeongchang.html
The whole article is worth a read (as a VM fan, the others be aware ;)), but here the quotes from Tessa or Scott:
“We were holding our breath, obviously, in the kiss’n’cry,” said Moir afterwards, “because we know what fantastic skaters (the French) are, we know that they’re going to post a world record. We thought that was a good enough skate to win us an Olympic title but you never know in this sport, you never know.”

Virtue: “And it would have been embarrassing to celebrate too soon.”
“We did know how we would have to skate. We came up with a plan yesterday afternoon with our off-ice team that we wouldn’t know how they skated and just block our ears, let them have their moment. That’s the beautiful thing about figure skating. No matter what happen, we get our four minutes and we wanted to make sure we took full advantage of it. I felt like we were able to do that.”

But the Canadians were certainly aware — they won’t say perplexed — about the scoring controversy from 24 hours earlier. Too high, those French marks.

“I did have a similar though to that yesterday,” Moir admitted, “because it was tight and we felt like we kind of blew the roof off the arena. But that’s the scoring system. There’s nowhere else for us to go.”

Meaning, their Latin-rumba short had hit world record heights.

“We knew today we’d have to come out strong and we were up against it a little bit. I did see that in the marks. What do you do? That’s the sport of ice dance.”

“We knew today we’d have to come out strong and we were up against it a little bit. I did see that in the marks. What do you do? That’s the sport of ice dance.”
And my favorite:
“You know what the beautiful part is?” Moir told reporters in the mixed zone, after executing a wide embrace of familiar journalists. “We’re done.

“I don’t have to look at the breakdown (of marks) anymore. It’s fantastic. I’ve never felt so free.

“We skated our asses off and we’ve got to be proud of that. The points? I don’t really care anymore. We’re going to get that Olympic medal tonight. That’s awesome.”
And you know what? I'm free of the judging as well! I'm not that invested in any other couple, so I'm free!!!! With one exception... Tessa and Scott start coaching:eek: God, help me. :D

Where did you find this information? I was also hoping for a new one.

Guess, my hair will be totally grey then in a couple years :p. But I will gladly take that if it means I'll be seeing Tessa and Scott as a coaching couple a la DL:D.

And a new fluff piece: Skaters reflect on Tessa and Scott https://vimeo.com/256537181
Love it!!

It was from here ... Back in January https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eysNtspIDWs (at least it stated on website published on January 22, 2018) Unless I'm mistaken ...

Yes, I'm hoping a new one ;)

Ok here I go again.. anyone have the BBC or BESP coverage..really need to see them react! TY!!
I think someone posted the link for BESP in the earlier post.

The NBC extended version of the FD is here. Unfortunately the sound stops about 4 min. in but I loved to see the background stuff after the score. When Aljona and Bruno won, German television followed them with the camera until the "flower ceremony" was over. Annoying to them, I guess, but I loved to see it. Did Canadian television do something like this? I would love to see their reaction.

BESP is here, too! https://vimeo.com/256538388

Thanks for sharing, Golden1 :)

Did they say they are done? Are they officially retired now?
Yes. I think they stated it in some of the interviews throughout the season. And probably the article from The Star (see the post waaaay above) had them quoting to that effect as well.

*sigh* I wish they'd stay but it's a good decision for them, I think. Time to pass the torch. 20 years. Unbelievable ...

This BBC article is so funny. Love the reaction on social media to Tessa and Scott  http://www.bbc.com/sport/winter-sports/43125368
Those tweets :lol::lol::lol:

(psst...guilty lol I was on that bandwagon for awhile after Vancouver OGM win. Now I'm like "yes, you tease". But come on, you got to admit somewhere in tiny corner of your heart you're rooting for it, right? :p)

Honestly, yes. I mean Scott's quotes, their behavior, their looks... BUT, I have been their fan for a long time and know how it ends eventually. Still, there is a tiny bit of hope

Okay, now I stop being a teenage fangirl ;):

Hopefully, a video of NBC's coverage with commentary from Tanith and Terry will surface eventually. Here is a brief transcript.

Tanith (during circular step sequence): One of the most effective parts of their skating is their ability to play their characters as distinctive but still always complementary of one another, even when one’s playing the aggressor and the other the prey as in this first section. They can vary that intensity, and it just adds so many layers to their story telling.

Terry (after ending pose): No matter what happens, you just watched one of the all-time great ice dance teams.

Tanith: Brilliance strikes again for Virtue and Moir. How many times are we going to see a team like this on Olympic ice.

Terry: To step away, I mean in all sports, very few have done it. Michael Jordan, stepped away, played baseball, came back, won 3 more championships. But who does this.

Terry (as score comes up): Yes. It is enough. And they draw ahead of the French team. It’s Virtue and Moir with their second Olympic gold medal.

Omg. I was off work yesterday due to the holiday. I planned on getting back in the gym and eating clean. Please. The stress; i made the BOMB macaroni and cheese and a bottle of wine. I had company over so i didn’t eat the whole pan but they don’t watch skating so when the dancing came on, i bagged up everyone’s carry out and sent them on their way. That final group... i was sweating and during the Kiss and Cry, i finally realized what couch pillows are for... squishing them while you wait on scores. When i saw their total higher than they needed to win, let’s just say i heard someone outside say “ he scared me” because i yelled so loud.

I count this as huge as Michael Jordan returning to basket ball. I was soooo scared that the judges wouldn’t do the right thing. The French reminded me of Michelle Kwan in terms of disappointment on their faces. The sportsman like conduct between the Canadian’s and French is exemplary.

By the way, did Tessa and Scott do two different endings between the individual and team event ? Two different lifts? Strait up mastery of their craft.
