Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir, #46 : Until the End of Time

I haven't had time to write here during Skate Canada but stayed up late to catch them live on television. It's such a double-edged sword for me. On the one hand I can't wait to watch them live and on the other hand I'm so sad that with each performance the end comes closer. It really hit me this weekend (especially seeing them close to tears at the end of their EX program) that this will be the last SD and FD that I will see from them. :wuzrobbed

Fortunately I really, really love their last programs ever. The SD and the FD were so brilliant. I adore their precision, speed, ice coverage, attack, musicality, creativity and passion. They made me so happy and proud :cheer2:.

I think we should all connect somehow and mourn together when the time comes at least hopefully Tessa will keep posting things and they hopefully will do some shows.

Love the Spanish Eurosport commentary on the FD, and the way they emphasize how difficult the lifts are: "it's not him who lifts her, she lifts herself up."

Yessssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally. This is always passed by. They work equally in the lifts.

I don't think "she lifts herself up" is quite the same as "they work equally in the lifts" though, unless something was lost in translation?

It is the same thing to me. They work together in the lifts @sap5, meaning he does his job and she does hers. "She lifts herself up" to me means she does her own job in the lifts. Hahaha. Did I make that sound even worse?

No, that is exactly what I think the commentator meant. He was referring specifically to the "Carmen lift" when he said that, and then repeated the comment when they replayed the first lift. They both sounded in awe of Tessa and Scott. :)

Just so happy someone (anyone) is talking about this. It is almost never mentioned and it is so important and exactly the reason they can pull off these lifts.

Tessa is so fit and strong. While wearing the new FD dress, you can see the muscle defintion through that cut out. Love how she looks so fit and feminine at the same time.

I've gone ahead and requested vacation during the Olympics, there is no way I am going to function well with the Games on my mind.

Very true when we were at the GPF with my best friend last year she said something like I knew she was pretty and feminine but I didn't know she was muscular. I was laughing so hard and told her "Well she's an athlete isn't she?" On a different subject I hope school vacation is during the Olympics.

Did you watch the British Eurosport commentary? They said the same thing and one said he got choked up just thinking about it. We're going to be a mess come February.

I think I've watched the FD about 8 times now. It's amazing how I wasn't happy with it at ACI and now I'm just so into it.
Me too Shay..had mixed feelings about the 3nd after ACI but seeing in live in Regina with the full force of their emotions and the music just made me choked. I too have watched various versions on big screen TV.

I've watched the FD 3 times now. I'm still amazed at what a leap of improvement (I felt) they've made since ACI. Can't help but feel Tessa's choice of MR song (i.e especially CWM) is also a tribute to their career. To each other and to us fans. So much so I teared up at the same point of this program - starting from where they dance to CWM song with lyrics "Seasons may change...winter to spring..." I'm such a sentimental fool. Probably a mess come Olympics...

The entire fd competition was a master class of dance. Kudos to all the teams. I was glued to each performance

The lifts have been a sore spot since D/W. Yes Tessa always throws herself into position in lifts and Scott catches her and steadies her as opposed to D/W ..Charlie lifted her and threw her around like a rag doll..This never showed in their marks.

I'm just glad that they realized it actually takes two people to do a lift. ;) Tessa's not out there just lifting herself.

I would describe the colour of her FD dress as a burgundy wine. It's not a Canadian flag red at all.

eta.... speaking of dresses. the original MR dress she wore at ACI that she wore for the exhibition here is a true red and looks beautiful in person and on her. I do like better their styling in their FD at SC but that other dress is also beautiful. I hope they keep that exhibition all season (even though I said I don't care about exhibitions lol).

I have a feeling they might not, but now that they've established their new SD, I wouldn't mind if they go back to Prince. Hopefully they'll bring the Hip back for Nats though.

I totally agree. I usually stick my comments specifically about V/M here. Hence, the gushing. Skate Canada this season was a joy to watch. For W/P, I was so pleased with both programs. Costume change made a difference for SD. I respect their decision to skate to JSM. One of my fav. Besides H/D, the one couple I just enjoyed watching is Smart/Diaz. Adrian's got good carriage/posture. Never really got into Russian as much as Canadians/American. My overall impression is Canada has great skaters. I miss P/I. I watched Paul with Vanessa years ago. Liked her. But I felt Paul looked more smitten with Piper (than with Vanessa) when she came onboard. Even if I thought Vanessa was a great partner. Sorry I'm a fan of W/P more than G/P

Back from Regina and catching up on videos to see the different recordings. Just a fyi that they don't do justice to their speed, flow and ice coverage at all (especially the way the Olympic channel one is filmed) so just letting you all know that live they are flying through that program. And the speed into the lifts is insane, especially the modified Carmen lift, how the momentum doesn't knock him backward is a bit mindblowing in person. Seeing how they execute those lifts live compared to some of the other teams at the same event they must be putting in some serious training to maintain that flow and not lose balance. I haven't watched them live since 2008 so this was a treat.

I'm very interested to read this b/c someone who's opinion I value in the dance thread went also and she's written twice now that W&P were faster than V&M so Im glad to read that V&M are fast too as the TV doesn't always show this.

W/P are fast but I actually thought it showed that they have only been working on this FD that past month and the noticeably slowed downed in parts of their FD (second twizzle being one obvious example) so I am surprised that someone would think that because from where I sat V/M went through that FD with consistent speed and flow that I worried they went too fast into their lifts compared to others ;)

I can, however, see how someone might get the opposite impression in the SD but I also think that is due to the way the choreography is in those programs and I also sensed V/Ms goal was to really carve out those edges and go for a perfect base value.

But all three (I include H/D) have very good speed, flow and ice coverage.

Thank you Marbri.

I agree that it was clear to me that V/M were simply breathtakingly fast in that FD. WeaPo have power and speed, but they seemed to still be re-introducing themselves with Je Suis Malade and it wasn't nearly as effortless or fast as V/M (I think I just said an understatement) or what W/P usually do.

I've got a question: Is the exhibition program they showed at SC their "real" program or just one they did for SC? According to reports on tumblr and the clips of the gala practice, they choreographed this program on the spot and on their own. Does anyone here know more about that?

And am I the only one who is waiting for a new interview? I so hoped that they would do one with PJ Kwong or maybe a Gold Derby one at SC. Unfortunately with the development of "The Skating Lesson" we probably won't get an interview like that again. I would really love to get their take on things.

Confession: That short dance, i only watched it once. A swarm of bees could have flown in my mouth as it was gaping open. I almost don’t want to watch it too much now because I want to revel in their progress as i know skating rarely gives a gift as precious as being able to see them compete again after stopping. That short dance was just, blew me away. I love V&M and I hope they win. I cannot believe how refreshed they seem. The free needs work to make it iconic.

I think quite possibly they did it on the spot or this past week which I thought was wonderful. I was at the exhibition practice. Gord Downie's death was a huge deal for all of us here in Canada. The stationary lift and few parts of the program seemed "borrowed" from some of their past programs which is understandable considering they did it on very short notice. Throughout the exhibition practice they were constantly discussing and mapping out their paths. Kudos to them if they really did it on the spot.

The FD doesnt translate to TV as well. I sat in the second row with no one infront so was in perfect position to be drawn into the skating, the movement, the emotions. I was just blown away watching MR live. Cannot wait to see it grow even further though will be doing that from a TV set.

I didnt go for the Practice but likely they had sketched out a plan and then executed in practice. If hastily put together it was terribly professional and so much in sync. I watched it again today and it was clear that Scott was tearing up.

:( :(

The loss of Gord Downie is the loss of a national treasure, a poet, a social justice warrior. I did not think it possible to love Tessa and Scott more than I already did....but this exhibition and the meaning behind it.....I bawled my eyes out. Haha. I am such a cheeseball.
