Takahashi to Make a Comeback

If Emanuel Sandhu could make a comeback, I suppose Daisuke Takahashi can too. :watch:

Emanuel came in 11th at Canadian Nats when he tried to make a comeback...but he did it without a coach, and he wasn't quite a Dai-level competitor even at the best of times. I certainly hope he does better than that if he's going to put himself through all of the stress and media attention. Working with Mishin is a good start...

Canadian Nats had a weaker field than Japan Nats though. My understanding from his wording is that Dai might aim at Japan national. Hope the best for him.

Such wonderful news, but still so surprising. I will be more than glad to see Daisuke in competition again, but I wonder whether he will be able to get even that third Worlds spot without quads. Tomono seems a more likely candidate. Takahashi may get better PCS, but that probably won't help him that much.

So he's there for working on choreography with Richaud?

Anyways reportedly he'll have a press conference from 8 pm today (Japan time). :watch:

My first thought of reading this thread's title was "WOW Narumi makes a comeback?" :D

Dai-san! :40beers: :cheer2: :rollin:

Has he been training quads though? Does he miss competing that much?

Dai's desire to make a comeback is another huge reason why there should be a professional competitive tour for veteran skaters who still want to compete and who still have so much to offer!

Wow! I did not expect that.

Given that he likely made the decision a while ago, it's interesting that Takahashi did not apply for two GPs as a comeback skater. Or does that possibility not exist anymore?

Even if his TES probably won't be competitive, it'll be great to see Takahashi again. I wish him all the best with this.

Interesting. Maybe he felt that with less emphasis on quads a comeback is realistic. He is a great skater and always will be, no matter what comes out of that comeback. Probably he saw how Mishin brought Carolina back to a high level and wanted to try the same. I remember that in the past he was apparently thinking of a comeback some day. All power to him. :respec:

Well, he surely needs time to get his jumps back and feel confident with them, maybe start with a smaller competition or two. Maybe he can get by without a quad for a bit like Jason or Deniss, but I doubt he'd be satisfied to go to a competition and jump junior or even novice level content (not sure where he's at right now, tbh). When you're coming back after 4 years, it's got to be hard to acclimatize again. Especially in the men's field which has changed so much in such a short time.

Wow. This truly is the off-season that keeps on giving! :cheer::respec::swoon:

Now I want Machida to announce that when he said he'd be retiring from show skating, he actually meant that he's planning a competitive comeback too. And then ISU should announce that the Japanese men will get 5 spots for 4CC & Worlds because they're so awesome. Is that really too much to ask?

ETA: There's a recent(ish?) long interview with Dai, Taka and Nobu that some kind soul translated in English, links & excerpts here: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...eason-news-updates.103938/page-2#post-5379460

Daisuke 'Dice' Murakami recently retired and said "I'm having a Daisuke Takahashi moment right now" for taking a rest and getting his feelings sorted prior to standing on a new startline of his second life. I wonder if he'll have another 'Daisuke Takahashi moment' in an Olympic cycle and then follow his idol's path to a comeback. ;)
