Stars on Ice U.S. 2018

Just got back from the Anaheim show and the crowd was the most enthusiastic, most supportive, cheering, applauding, totally noisy group of people I’ve ever seen at a skating event in decades. The Honda Center was absolutely packed. The cast had to be immensely proud and inspired. Great show!

I was at the Anaheim show too! It was amazing! Out of the 3 SOI shows I've been to in my life, this one was by far the best! I went to the show mainly to see Nathan perform and especially the "shape of you" performance, but I came out of it thoroughly enjoying everyone else as well. The seats I had were also amazing!

I had the same reaction when I saw the show in Long Island. I came looking forward to seeing Nathan and the Shibs mainly and came away actually loving everyone. Nothing but positive impressions of the entire cast.

a few pics and videos. Not the greatest. But I was really there to just enjoy the show. Did a few pics and video clips just for memories. Youtube has many many videos and such so I felt I did not really need to concentrate on that.

Thanks, but the page isn't visible, probably because we are not all your friends:D I'm not saying you need to make your page public, but just so you know. Glad you enjoyed the show!

Oh ok lol. Maybe i’ll upload to another sit first before posting. But my pics and vids really aren’t that great lol. Everything i took, you’be probably already seen better qualities on YouTube or IG

Ok here are some of my photos and videos
the shibsibs came out before the show and was talking with a lady for a bit. From the back it looked as if it could be their coach Marina Zueva. On their way back to the backstage area, I saw they graciously posed for photos and selfies with fans sitting either first row or on ice area.

San Jose show was fantastic! Packed house and they weren't shy. The crowd came out for the Shibs, the Chens, and Adam and Mirai, but everyone else got an enthusiastic reception in the end too, especially Jason and Meryl and Charlie.

Why is the men's group number always so much better than the women's?

Whoever scheduled Bradie between Adam and Nathan is evil.

Vincent's Take On Me number is charming. He's got a ways to go but he was working the crowd like a semi-pro.

Is the women's number not as good? I haven't watched the videos from the US version, but I know they're using the same song as SOI Japan and Canada. I really liked the Japanese version with Alina, Evgenia and Kaetlyn (I don't think I've watched the Canadian version either yet).

I agree the men group numbers are likely better as the men are older and have more years mastering blade work.

I'm glad that y'all encouraged me to go. It was a pretty good show. Nice to see the lower bowl filled except for over the tunnel entrance, plus a goodly amount of folks on the upper level.

Everyone really was working it. I have to say that for me, Meryl and Charlie have gone to a new level, especially in the Elastic Heart program. They are clearly the leaders of the troupe. It was nice to see Nathan skate out full his SP, and Ashley's LaLa Land program was wonderful - if she stays in eligible comp, I hope she uses it next season. Her other number was also great. Really almost every skate was pretty good. Bradie's Cinderella was fairly muted - it just doesn't hold up next to the rest of the programs, and a woman behind me literally laughed out at the tick-tock choreography.
Vincent Zhou was a great today. He has a way to go in show skating, but his number is clearly to help him develop. He got a great reception from the local crowd.

In terms of group numbers I wish I hadn't seen the YouTube videos of the CSOI cast skating them. It took away the surprise, and in a couple of them the comparison was not in the US favor.

All in all, a very good way to spend Mother's Day...

edited to add: and no pops on jumps. Everyone was going for 2ax and higher. There was a fall and some iffy landings, but I saw lutzes, flips, loops, sals and toes. And did Nathan land a couple of quads? It's hard for me to tell in the spotlights.

Wow! It was that full? They kept calling me asking me to buy tickets as if they were desperate...

Who were the local acts?

I got those calls too! I guess Kyle at the SAP Center did his job well. It was fuller than every session of National except for the Men's LP. I was in a comparable section to what I had at Nationals, and every seat around me was full.

Vincent was the only guest.

For me it's always been the choreography more than the skating. The men's number was more genuinely a group performance, and it was energetic and fun and they looked like they dug it. The women didn't interact much and it was all kind of limp. Pretty girls in filmy dresses gazing meaningfully into the distance, thinking thoughtful thoughts about things.

I agree. I mean, Meryl, Ashley, Madison and Mirai are not young things, and Nathan is similar in age to Bradie and Karen. I don't think it's a gender thing: the ice dancers do better than the singles skaters, (that's why Charlie skated "point" in the guys number). What might it look like if the women were given a fun upbeat number and the guys had to skate to a music ballad?

More interesting than the usual 'flirty' group girl performance I recall from the few shows I've been to. In which case my opinion may have limited validity, although I will say that I've no desire whatsoever to attend a skating show any time soon (far prefer competition).

My impression is that ladies are almost always given a fun upbeat (and flirty) group number.

I’m popping in to stick up for, of all people, Bradie Tennell. I went to “my” SOI show with no preconceptions, since I follow the men far more than the ladies. I found Bradie to be confident, assured, with real and growing performance chops. I was particularly impressed since in her programs, she didn’t have a “crutch” of sex and sizzle to sell it, but actually had to sell it.

Nobody laughed at my show, and I was impressed.:cheer2:
