Songs You Dislike and/or Detest

Macklemore's Downtown makes me want to stab myself in the ears. I was actually happy for our Christmas music to start at work just so I wouldn't have to hear it 5 times a day anymore.

I wish we could take every Nickelback recording post Silver Side Up and bury them all in a hole to be forgotten. I'm also a tiny bit ashamed I remember that Silver Side Up is the album that How You Remind me is on.

"Don't Worry Be Happy" is my kryptonite. Speaking of with, the song "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down is, too.

I agree with almost all of the previous posts on Christmas music, but on a positive note, I will say that I absolutely love the Phil Spector Christmas album.

There are so many too many.
Every single hit that is used in every car commercial. I don't know the actual names, but the current one has "this is my fight song", Phillip Phillips's "I'm coming home" the one several years ago by Train
Christmas ones: grandma got run over by a reindeer, Santy Claus is coming to town, Santa Baby
Beatles: hey jude
Journey: don't stop believing
Celine Dion: everything she has done particularly " my heart wil go on"
Got a bunch more, just too tired tio think

Beatles: hey jude
Journey: don't stop believing
I wouldn't mind Hey Jude if the song ever ended. It just goes on and on. If I want to listen to a song that never ends I will listen to The Song That Never Ends. It's far more amusing.

Any enjoyment I ever had for Don't Stop Believing was killed by Glee.

I dislike a lot of songs I hear on the radio. I generally either love songs or don't like them at all. I'll also start to dislike some songs if they get overplayed too much, and if that happens, it's like 10 years before I can enjoy the song again. Songs I've recently disliked are Beyonce's "Drunk in Love," Rihanna's "Umbrella," and, currently, that Taylor Swift song about "me in a nice dress" and the Selena Gomez song about how "I just wanna look good for you." (Somehow I just picture Taylor and Selena taking selfies and posting them on Facebook while singing those ones.)

Sometimes, rarely, I'll dislike a song when it first comes out and then later inexplicably grow to love it. An example--Mariah Carey's first hit, "Vision of Love." I hated that song back in the 1980s but now, for some reason, I love it!! (And I'm not a big Mariah fan generally.)

I'm sorry to break the news, but according to NPR, the Shins' cover version is now the most popular Xmas song on store playlists. I couldn't believe a cool group would even do that song?
Previewed it in iTunes. Yuck!

Lovely Day by Bill Withers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYi7uEvEEmk&list=RDsYi7uEvEEmk
Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone also by Bill Withers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIdIqbv7SPo&index=2&list=RDsYi7uEvEEmk
The moment I hear the intros on the radio I have to switch to another station, I can't stand either song.
Wasn't Expecting That - Jamie Lawrence https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-lI_tgQMMk

all awful, repetitive and :drama: that they are broadcast into my car to catch me unawares :angryfire

(Because I'm) Happy - Pharrell Williams https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=because+i'm+happy when I hear those first three notes I just want to :scream:

Just according to sound without going into song meanings or anything . . . "Rumour Has It" by Adele. I hate that whole production with the mediocre beats and the constant "Rumour has it ooooh. . ." in the background. It's so grating to my ears. I don't like most of her songs, but this one is just the worst for me.

The perfume version with the line of "y o u b e t t e r www aaaa kkk uuup"
I know it is supposed to be sexy, but to me it sounds like a person in labor.

So many of the hated songs posted are among my favorites. I don't know whether to  or :slinkaway. But I will say that two Rob mentioned above are among those that make me want to :scream:: Having My Baby and Muskrat Love. Ugh! And although I'm not Christian, I really like many gospel songs -- not the "contemporary Christian" stuff but old time gospel, as in sung by Mahalia Jackson.

ETA: Make that three songs mentioned by Rob -- add Achy Breaky Heart to my list.

There are plenty of genres of music I don't like in general, but I do my best to avoid them.

That includes mid-20th-century Christmas pop songs. The older carols are fine with me musically even if I don't share the religion.

But the songs of 20th century nostalgia for an America that was simpler and whiter drive me crazy.

However, of songs played on radio stations that I generally like to listen to that make me change the station immediately:

Anything by John Mayer or, depending on my mood, Sheryl Crow. I just don't enjoy the timbre of their voices. The songs themselves might be OK covered by other artists.

"Shattered" and "Beast of Burden" by the Rolling Stones. I love 1960s Rolling Stones, but the 70s work and those two songs in particular really get on my nerves.

I know I know I know I know I know I know I know I HATE this song. It reminds me of the days of vinyl records when the needle would get stuck and repeat something over and over until you gave the record player a whack. I'd like to give Bill Withers a whack every time I hear this.
Bet his grandma's hands would give you a whack back, if you did. :p

I like Ain't No Sunshine.

Musically/aurally I like it just fine. But what gives it a special place in my heart is that it's a song about a man missing a woman and as far as the context of the song goes his whole life is defined by the presence or absence of that woman. There are so many songs about women being defined entirely by the presence or absence of a man that it's refreshing to hear the shoe on the other foot for a change.

My own personal hate song is about cannibalism after a mining disaster. It was a bona fide top 40 song called Timothy. I get nauseous thinking about it.[/QUOTE]

I remember that and what was the lyricist thinking? The song, that was released a few years later, that drove me bananas was "Billy, Don't Be A Hero." It was not as awful as "Timothy" but it was on a juke box at a hang-out and one girl from my class would play it over and over again until the owner mercifully removed the record.
