Skate to Milano OWG Qualifier - Beijing CHN - Men's SP & FS

Daniliants - was not expecting the decent quad attempt. Really enjoyed that the choreography matched the music well. Seemed rushed and messy.
He's been landing quads for years. Made the free skate at Worlds 2 years ago in his first try, in big part from that.

I was wondering why Valtter Virtanen looks like he's in his late 30s...and not only is he 38, he's also an MD PhD :encore:

still amazed he translates it into English as Semen and not Semyon or something even though I know literally it is the Cyrillic -> English pipeline for his name
Although born and raised in Russia, he represents Armenia, which does not use the Cyrillic alphabet. His name in Armenian is Սիմոն (pronounced See-mon), not Семён.

Georgii Reshtenko 🇨🇿
Coach: Michal Brezina, Adam Solya, Rafael Arutiunian

3A - step out
Change Foot Combo Spin 3V
4T+3T

Change Foot Camel Spin 4 (3 after review)

Flying Sit Spin 3 (4 after review)

Georgii was fighting himself through that whole performance, and it resulted in tight jumps, and messy presentation.

Reshtenko has never come back from the injury he had a few years ago. He was so promising and it's just not come together.

Missed Reshtenko and most of Virtanen. Rough skate for Virtanen. Everything looked hard.

I don't even have words for Vlasenko's program. This group of men... Hopefully Gartung is more interesting.

Aleksandr Vlasenko 🇭🇺
Coach: Julia Gor Sebestyen
Music: The Moon Over the Ruined Castle

3A - hand down
3F+3T
Flying Sit Spin 3 (4 after review)
3Lo
Change Foot Combo Spin 4
Step Sequence 3
Change Foot Camel Spin 3

Audience pump up moves after ignoring the audience for the first half of the performance are probably not going to be very effective.

68.30 = 5th Place

Vlasenko - Interesting program, a little bit quirky but also a little flat presentation-wise. He looks so much like my brother when he was that age. It's really weird.

Gartung - senior debut, I believe, and the nerves are definitely getting to him - usually these jumps are more solid. Eeek - missed his first spin. I do like his style though.

Genrikh Gartung 🇩🇪
Coach: Niko Ulanovsky, Ria Schiffner
Music: Did You Ever Feel Lonely

4Lz+3T - sloppy landing position
3A - step out
Spin* - fall, no value
3F
Step Sequence 3

Flying Camel Spin 3 (4 after review)
Change Foot Combo Spin 4

He's going to have work to do in the free skate, but he's got the jumps to do so.

69.51 = 5th Place

Gartung - looked nervous for sure. I'm not convinced this is a style that works for him, but there's something really appealing about his skating.

3F

Change Foot Combo Spin 4

I feel like this program has been around for the entire past quadrennial, but I'm probably exaggerating. Rough skate for Maurizio today.
