Skate to Milano OWG Qualifier - Beijing CHN - Ice Dance RD & FD

So, Jackie Wong has gone back over the protocols & the programs from Yoshida/Morita and Reitan/Majorov. Both of them got a ! on the choreo character step seq. He's identified the issue for YoMori - and notes they got the same call 2 weeks ago at Kinoshita Group Cup, so this was a fixable error they should have addressed.

He can't figure out, though, why Reitan/Majorov got the call. Any knowledgeable ID experts who care to make a guess? Beyond the obvious CFSA :bribe: (which I think is the real culprit).

Picky, but maybe a bit too far a part near the end of the sequence? Reitan had to stretch a bit, and almost retrogression, to get Majorov’s hand and back into a hold, which would highlight being more than two arms length a part.

Lol I can't believe the forensics that go into determining some of these dance calls.

 I’m not convinced it was a warranted call; my hypothesis is arguably grasping at straws.

But really, it is the nature of the sport of ice dance that we look at the smallest of details to try and objectively differentiate the teams. It’s what makes it both an impressively skilled and infuriatingly equivocal discipline.

There is something to be said for the fun of forensics and debate. :COP:

What are the chances of the Swedes getting a reallocated spot? I am so angry at the results ..... they should be right up there behind the australians + the lithuanians!
Depends on Orihara's own citizenship quest. The problem for the Swedes is that Milla doesn't have Swedish citizenship yet and with no Olympic spot on the line, it may not be expedited, so even if Yuka's quest for Finnish citizenship is unsuccessful, the Swedes may also have to pass if they're offered the spot. I feel like it's probably going to go to Hungary in the end.

Just to add. I am not involved in figure skating but am involved in sports so have seen my fair share of this crap. The long wait until the scores came out, the lowering of various levels ... all of those ... to ensure that they were 0.X point behind the Chinese team. [Even Mark Hanretty was like ....... ] Of course, one can say that there's no hard objective evidence. But very often you just KNOW what goes on. And this is taking away someone's Olympic dream.

Figure skating can be such a beautiful sport (like the Swedes' free dance - I was blown away) and so ugly at the same time. Can the Swedish figure skating association lobby their way to expedite Reitan's citizenship? I love the Finns #2 as well, but in case they can't go I'm just hoping, really hoping that young Majorov + Reitan can showcase their beautiful free dance in Milano.

The Swedish OC has always been very strict who they send. Even though Reitan could get the citizenship in time, they might not be sent.
It is a pity. I would love to see both them and Orihara/Pirinen in Milan, but it will not happen.:wuzrobbed

The Swedish OC has relented for first time Olympians for the last several Olympics. First Alexander Majorov, who may have been angry when he wasn’t sent in the following Olympics under their regular draconian standards. In the last Olympics, it was Taljegard and Nikolai Majorov as singles skaters.

The only chance that Taljegard would be allowed to go to Milano is if Sweden made the TE and she was needed for it. Without the TE, I doubt Taljegard would have been sent, even had she qualified a spot.

Majorov and Reitan could have been considered as development/potential first-time Olympians, if the Swedish OC considered Majorov’s participation in Dance to be separate from his selection as a singles skater.

Which they should, if they are actually serious about the spirit of it. He has so much more potential as a dancer than he ever had in singles!

All the teeth-gnashing over the SOK may wind up being a moot point if she doesn't get her Swedish citizenship before the Jan 12th deadline for entry by names should PiriHara's spot be relinquished by Finland.
