It will be interesting to see if this is being handled the same way as Nationals or if the bubble format will continue

Today's press release: https://www.usfigureskating.org/new...na-las-vegas-selected-host-2021-skate-america

U.S. Figure Skating announced the selection of The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas as the host for 2021 Skate America, Oct. 22-24, 2021. Skate America® will mark the first of six stops on the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series 2021.

Skate America® was staged in Las Vegas for the first time in 2019. The competition was held at The Orleans Arena in 2020 without spectators in a bubble environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All-session ticket packages will go on sale Wednesday, May 26. More information will be available at 2021SkateAmerica.com.

"The Orleans Arena was such a great partner for this competition in 2020, so we are excited to bring Skate America back to Las Vegas in 2021," U.S. Figure Skating President Anne Cammett said. "We’re looking forward to having fans in attendance as athletes from the United States and abroad continue on their journey towards the Olympic Winter Games.”

The Orleans Hotel and Casino, which is adjacent to the arena, will offer a special fan rate during the competition. More information regarding lodging will be available at 2021SkateAmerica.com on May 26.

“We are excited to continue our amazing relationship with U.S. Figure Skating, which has included some great closed events over the last year,” said Orleans Arena Executive Director Rex Berman. “The one thing that has been missing is the ‘oohs and aahs’ as skaters take the ice. We are ecstatic to welcome the cheering fans back for the 2021 edition of Skate America.”

The complete list of athletes selected to compete at 2021 Skate America and all other competitions will be announced in June.

Definitely considering a fall trip. I haven't been to a live skating event since SA was in Portland. I can’t wait to see who is assigned to compete here!

Yay again for Vegas!

The rates for Mlife hotels on the strip are all over the place for pricing. Usually Mandalay Bay is mid tier, but it's $500/night. I'm wondering if there is a Raiders home game or some convention at MB to drive up the price? Bellagio is cheaper (which is rare). The lower end properties such as Luxor and Excalibur are around $120/night. Even with paying for transportation to get to the Orleans, it might be worth it as the Orleans rooms are in need of an update.

Can't wait for tix to go on sale and for the GP lineups to be announced!

I thought the Orleans rooms were great. Yeah the furniture was a little out of date but it was super clean (my #1 priority) and comfortable.

Totally agree TBF - cleanliness is most important - and you can't beat the convenience as it is all connected. Plus there were a variety of food court and other restaurant options as well as a pretty diverse food court selection in 2019.

It will also be interesting to see when the skaters can stop wearing masks in the Kiss and Cry. Skaters don't look pretty with masks.
Mathieu Caron would disagree.

Yay! I will definitely be there. Nathan will be there, and probably Bradie and Alysa. Maybe Audrey Shin? Or Lindsay Thorngren. Plus whatever Russians, hopefully KAMILA (please please please!) or Anna, and probably one of Daria/Maiia/Alyona. Sounds like a better use of funds than Nationals. Plus it's Vegas and can find entertainment outside of skating.

How do you think the Russians will pair up for the GP? I would think Russia will pair Tukt/Valieva since Tukt is the weakest link of the seeded top3. Anna with Maiia? Trusova with Usacheva? But where will Alyona be placed? With Trusova/Usacheva?

The NFL schedule is released 5/12. The place I stayed last time shows no availability for every weekend of the football season. I’m guessing a lot of reservations will be canceled once the schedule is released. Now let’s hope the Raiders are away that weekend, rooms will open, prices will drop and we don’t have to deal with that crowd at the airport Monday morning.

I really enjoyed staying at the Orleans for 2019 Skate America. There was just such convenience in just staying at the same venue as the event. I could have a slow morning, wake up, work out, enjoy a long breakfast and coffee, then practices and the events. It was so nice to just get out late and go upstairs to either get ready to go to bed, or out.

Sure, the hotel is old, furniture outdated, ceilings are low, and it’s incredibly smoky. But, aside from convenience, its easy to run into skaters. You can wake up early and see things like John Zimmerman eating breakfast alone, getting up to walk away, stopping for 10 seconds to think, turning around to head toward the atm, withdraw a ton of cash, then walk toward the casino.

Precisely why I choose to stay exclusively at the Bellagio when I visit Las Vegas. High ceilings and non-soiled carpeting are non-negotiable. I only hope I do not witness the lewd sexcapades of millennials in the pool this time.

Common, substandard and shabby! Just like me! I'll be there!
In my measured opinion, the Orleans seems to attract the elite of the Las Vegas vagrant community. Guard your pocketbook with your life.

I shall think he would want to apply those funds to the retainer of his lawyer.

And isn’t that what it’s all about?

ANL usually goes solely to these events for the purpose of the bumrush. Catching skaters offguard and getting photos taken and dates lined up with male pairs figure skaters.

It’s all about technique, stamina and quality sneakers!

I didn't learn until after I stayed at the Orleans for the first SKAM at that location, that the Orleans is the same hotel where OJ Simpson committed the robbery which got him sent to prison. 😳

I will agree with @TanithandBenFan that the rooms seemed clean. However I was not remotely impressed with anything else about the rooms. Reading on their website that the rooms had been recently renovated and looking around at the mid 70s decor I was sitting in didn't really compute to me.

Also, I was not impressed with the restaurants; the buffet was especially awful. (Thank goodness I went on a pilgrimage to Wicked Spoon with @jkl and @Sylvia for, IMO, the best moo-ffet on the Strip, where we spent 2.5 hours grazing. 🐮)

I treated myself to a stay at the Palazzo for a friend's third renewal of her vows to her husband (it's some kind of thing they have) and it was gorgeous. It's more expensive than the Orleans but if you feel like treating yourself too, it's a good one.
