Sir Bruce Forsyth has died.

The much loved veteran of British Light Entertainment has passed away, aged 89. I'm really sad about his passing, his catchphrases littered my childhood and well into my adulthood as many others are feeling I'm sure.

He was also the original host of "Strictly Come Dancing".

Didn't he do well?

He was part of Saturday night telly for so many years - I use to watch the Generation Game with my family. And he helped make Strictly Come Dancing the mega hit that went global.

He most certainly did very well

Yes, he did very well

Made me rather teary on the drive home from town when the news was announced on the radio. I know he was 89 and had been unwell for some time, but his passing caught me by surprise. He was such a great all round entertainer and a mainstay of Saturday night family entertainment for so many years. Even in his old age, Brucie was such a force on live TV and made Strictly his own for so many years. He will be sorely missed.

What an icon he was.
The pleasure he brought to several generations won't be forgotten.

It seems as though the entire nation can today look back and remember fondly their childhood memories of Sir Bruce Forsyth. Whether that started with Strictly, Play Your Cards Right, The Generation Game or Sunday Night at the London Palladium, the boy who started his career as the Mighty Atom certainly entertained us ALL over the years. And as a nation we owe him a debt of gratitude for all the good times he has given us. What a talent; what a national treasure....what a loss

It would be easy to dismiss Brucie as a simple song and dance man who could tell a few gags. An entertainer, if you will. It's just that he was the best at it in the whole damn world.

His career extends almost as far back as TV in Britain. I knew of him by reputation/reference in British TV shows even before going to the UK. One of the few cases where using the term 'icon' in reference to a person is perfectly valid.
