Kavaguti said it took her ten years to get used to the water in Russia, and I don't think she was in Novogorsk the whole time.
I was talking about this:
T: The first time you came to the test skates in Novogorsk you were crying and said you felt like in a jail - there was a fence, it was in the middle of renovations
K: I was so afraid. WE were not allowed to go out. And the water was black and dirty. And someone asked me why am I crying - because you don't have any friends? No, no, its because the wated was dirty.
T: I think you were qutie well loved in the Russian team?
K: Yes, I was. The friends were not a problem. The water was.

I wonder if Skating Twitter and Mexican skating fans will shame the host rink into canceling this seminar the same way her appearance in Sweden was canceled last year...

Why should they do that? Looks like fans are very excited.

Mishin's group held seminars in Mexico as well:
Came across a Russian news item that "choreographer Tatiana Prokofieva, as well as figure skaters Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, Evgeni Semenenko, Gleb Lutfullin, Matvei Vetlugin and Andrei Lazukin will take part in the master classes together with Professor Mishin" (Mishin camps) in Mexico, May 24-28 and May 31-June 4.

Irina Rodnina was interviewed by Anatoly Samokhvalov and Vlad Zhukov:

ETA that I've since posted relevant excerpts in the Valieva/delayed team medals thread: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...y-for-team-medals.109402/page-94#post-6449467

There are plenty of Russian-led camps going on all over the world right now (well, mostly in Europe). Many young (and competitive) skaters seem to be thrilled to learn from Mishin's camp, Tutberidze's camp, etc. I saw Burak Demirboga seems to either be training with Tutberidze full-time or at least spending a whole lot of time there. Mishin definitely was in Mexico already, and I believe he does something yearly in Switzerland. I think Florent Amodio hosted a few Russians, or Shcherbakova at the least. Memola has his obvious ties to Mishin. Grassl seems to be content in Tutberidze's camp. Rozanov is doing a camp in Mexico and probably elsewhere.

I guess skating fans can be mad at almost everyone. It's nothing new.

Actually Russian girls are very popular in Mexico and Latinamerica, last year were Daniil and Dudakov, this year were Mishin and Liza, even the Russian Grand Prix has been much more popular than the actual ISU grand prix, in the Latinamerica Fandom the discussion are always about Russians in general.

S ome channels were commenting live all the Russian events, Russian grand prix, nationals, channel 1 cup, etc.

Evgenia went there in 2019 or 2020 and did a few masters classes. She's popular in Mexico

My friend traveled through Latin America and Mexico about 10 years ago. She was very surprised by the fact that the RT (russia today) channel was very popular among the locals there. I think this is one of the reasons.

Mishin and Liza already had their yearly camp in Switzerland, it was in their Insta stories.

I don't think the Russian skaters have any problems traveling to Europe, I assume they just fly through Turkey.
Sherbakova and Medvedeva also both were in Amsterdam already this year, I think privately. Medvedeva attend "The Weeknd"'s concert in Amsterdam 3 weeks ago according to her insta.

I don't think the ability to travel is being questioned: I assume it's about why they are welcomed in many countries to make money and having athletes from many other countries attending the camps taught at least by some Russian coaches who are government/military funded.

It's what I mean, in Latinamerica Russian skaters are the most popular hence thay have been more than welcome, regarding Trusova at least in social media there is a high expectation to see her in Mexico

Perhaps because they are invited as individuals and not as club/national team members? Just guessing. In my area of work, it works like this: you cannot use your affiliation, but you can, let's say, participate in an event as an individual.

I doubt some left-wing Americans working in a public sector financed by public money, would take responsibility for what Trump was doing when he was in office. So there is also an opinion that people are not responsible for what their government is doing unless they are open supporters.

Zagorski/Guerreiro have announced their retirement from competition. 😥I think we all saw this coming, even if we hoped for them to resume competing.

Trankov's interview with Stepanova/Bukin

Among other things there is a question about the SD:
Trankov: the 80s programme will be skated by people who were born in the 90s and 2000th, while it will be choreographed, coached and judged by the people who existed in the 80s.
Bukin: it's the first time we have so much freedom in the SD, usually the rules are very strict, everything is within the very certain boundaries.
Stepanova: now there is so much freedom you have no idea what to do.

About the switch:
Stepanova: When I moved to Moscow Ivan already skated with Svinin/Zhuk, we were 13 and 11 and for 16 years we skated in that group. It was hard. We haven't seen them yet, of course we spoke in person
Bukin: The conversation lasted for like 30 seconds, Sasha said all the words, I just thanked them, I wanted to say a lot, but it was too hard. Think at that point it was the right thing for both them and us. Why? The season... we were away from the sport and we realized we don't have a lot of time in the sport left and we'd like to try now - to work with a different team, re-invent ourselves, take a risk. When you are 13-15 you have time, but when you are 30 you don't have much time for that chance.

Trankov: were your coaches shoked?
Stepanova: Think no. If we came right after the Olympics they would be, but we were skating in a show, so
Bukin: There was a season without us.
Stepanova: Perhaps they were accepting letting us go.

Her butt still sticks out awkwardly. She possesses a beautiful figure but a mediocre skate and has elegant arms....seems much ado about nothing..... makes this interview somewhat irrelevant....where will they skate? Meh....

Why forgive me for listening and translating the parts I thought were interesting. In the future I shall ask your highness whether the Russian skaters are relevant for the Russian skating news thread and whether their butts are good enough for translating their interviews.

WTF was your comment about???

I just don't think they're worth the hype...and for Bukin to say no one really impressed in their absence given the appearance of Vasilisa and Valeri and also Ira and whichever partner who have skating skills much better than Stepanova is just ridiculous. I understand her elegance and beauty but she's not an ice dancer. I resent the fact that oftentimes nepotism and beauty are elevated above real talent. That's all I meant. Maybe I should have said just that.

The news of their non participation in the 2024 Olympics in Paris has hit them hard. Not one specialist has said a kind word about Z/G on their retirement....to hear such vitriol from Zhulin though expected was very off putting.
okay
