Russian Cup series & other domestic events (2021-22)

Trusova ahead of Tuk in the SP. Will watch later...to see if 3-ax was landed by either woman.

According to Twitter and Reddit, Liza had a rough skate. Sasha fell on the 3A but did well on everything else.
I do not understand that girls problem with the 3A in full run throughs. She can practice and nail them all day. I'd think they'd look at her timing in the program and figure out what she needs to adjust. But, maybe that's why they are doing these events now.

For some reason she really tightens up on them in competition, the circle becomes much smaller, and she gives herself no chance to land the jump.

Liza did a 2F as a solo jump. And a 3-2 as her combo. Landed the 3A though.
Trusova's skate was very much identical to her other two SP attempts this season.

Edit: Protocols I see Trusova's edge call on the flip is back, for those wondering where it went last weekend lol

When I see Trusova's clean 3a practice vids, the trajectory looks really ... off. It's noticeable when you compare it to Kosternaia's lovely swooping, swishing trajectory. Where Trusova lands based on where she takes off and the path she skates before takeoff just seems wrong. It's like she's jumping too high instead of the right combination of jumping both up and forward.

There, my highly technical critique of her 3a :) But I'm not surprised she's missing them in competition.

Of course it's legit. I never questioned it, but it was somehow gone last week at the US competition and people were like "huh??"
Now, if only they called flutzes as often as they call lips....

Watched Tuk & Trus vids. Tuk DID land a lovely 3-axel but missed on the other jumps...so Trus leads.

I think people were implying some kind of conspiracy like it wasn't called because she's back with Eteri. But now she gets the call at a domestic comp lol.

Hoping she's not injured or anything and her goal here was just to try to try a clean SP with the axel.

Video from today. Includes K/B's free dance, with whispery voiceovers and screechy violins. I tried to share the time-stamped version, but unfortunately that didn't work, and now I can't find them again. Long day. But they're in there somewhere!

2F as a solo jump would be a bit of a problem, because there is a compulsory triple. She would get zero points for 2F in the SP, so that’s a costly mistake. Tuktamysheva landing 2F and 3-2 combination is quite a disaster and even her clean 3A won’t have a chance to save her.

Yes, Liza didn't look steady today. The 3-2 was a save. Her 3F always makes me nervous, but we all know a fall or bad landing is better than a pop in the SP.
Saved by the 3A and the Russia Cup bonus on that skill. But now, also saved by Trusova withdrawing. She should be fine tomorrow and should win easily, even if she has a bad-ish competition.

I don’t think she really cares that much though. I mean, it is nice to win and it would be bad not to win considering there is none of the stronger competitors (anyone from the national team) after Trusova withdrew, but it is not an important competition for her. She has GP events and therefore she has already qualified for the nationals. Her purpose for attending is very likely just getting used to competing after the summer break, and getting more feedback from the judges on her programs.

Liza two-footed the 2nd 3A and doubled the lutz, but everything else was good. Her footwork sequence was faster than at the test skates. But, she's going to have to be perfect at Russian Nationals for a shot at the team.

I think she's going to have to be better than perfect. She's fighting a hoard of younger athletes with more difficult choreography, and technical elements. It's an uphill fight all the way. #sentimentalfavourite

I just can’t get over the interview a few years ago where tuk said she only gets her skates sharpened like once a year and hardly ever gets new ones.

As someone who was guilty of extending the life of both longer than that and was in synchro so we didn’t break boots down as much from the lack of jumping I couldn’t keep skates longer than 2 years and I needed my skates sharpened like every 6 weeks at most!

I can’t help but think that has to cause her some little issues and impacts her speed.

Gumennik still hasn't sorted out his jumps with his new height, but his costume is shiny. Come on boy, fix the landings and make me happy.

Diana Mukandmanyconsonants never seems happy with her skates any more. And given she's currently sitting in 5th and likely to end up 6th, I can understand. I think her career is ending. :(

Trying to watch adorable junior pairs and NHT is being difficult. I keep forgetting the men at NHT

Exquisite by Tar/Mor. The program gets better every time. They are so confident in their skating now.

And, I love this program for Art/Naz. Excellent skate.
