The Governor General of Jamaica has suspended use of a royal insignia which depicts an archangel as white and Satan as a person with dark skin.

I heard about this, and I saw the depiction of the medal too! There are various images (including engravings). It's rather horrific, but I guess average people haven't ever had a good look at these depictions until recently. With the apparent 'white' heroic angelic figure standing on the neck of a 'black' figure on the ground (who represents the devil), it has reminded many of George Floyd suffocating and dying due to the 'white' police officer pressing his knee into Floyd's neck. I read that a number of prominent British POC, or Commonwealth POC have previously refused to accept being awarded this particular medal, understandably.

Possibly the image of heroic St. Michael was initially created during the 18th-century when notions of 'white' superiority first began to be developed, and a lot of history was rewritten, denied, ignored, covered up. Dark-skinned and pale-skinned people interacted quite often throughout ancient history, and not always in confrontational ways either. The connection between art, politics and history is also fascinating, and misunderstood. In this instance, the image used on the St. Michael medal is absolutely egregious, but in the case of the brooch that Princess Michael wore to 2017 Christmas at Sandringham, it was NOT a 'blackamoor' image (Princess Michael may not be fully aware of the jewelry's history). It's a celebratory image of a Moorish prince, made by a Venetian jeweler who explained the meaning behind his crafting of the jeweled image. I've shared this article here previously:

In other eye-opening news in this strange 2020 year of ongoing upheaval:

Scobie tweets about an archaic practice, reported in The Telegraph:
"Prince Charles has collected 1 million pounds + from people in Cornwall who died without leaving a will"

Omid Scobie's general Twitter relating more mundane British royal news:

A more hopeful, forward-looking example of a progressive royal who apparently has a discerning eye and intellect for the future:

"Crown Prince Haakon holds a Bachelor in political science from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters Degree in development studies from London School of Economics and Political Science.

The Crown Prince graduated from the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy in Bergen in 1995... The MA in development studies was completed in London in 2003, with a specialisation in international trade and Africa."

It's kind of fascinating too that Denmark is actually the world's oldest monarchy.

I'm not sure why, but a coworker shared two Swedish royal YouTube videos on our intranet. I liked them, so here they are. The first is Abba singing Dancing Queen at an event for King Carl Gustav's wedding in the 1970s. The second is a Swedish royal band playing Dancing Queen.

There's a new Royalty Home Decor blog from the creators of What Kate Wore and Meghan's Mirror fashion blogs. Below is a brief sampling. They'll need to do a lot more digging or luck into more royalty home features for this idea to truly take off.

On Maxima:

On Mary:

On Meghan:
https://royalhomestyle.com/2020/06/duchess-meghans-fashion-mirrors-her-interior-design-style/
Mostly based on her former Instagram posts showing her Toronto apartment, because the public hasn't been privy to any insider views of either Nottingham Cottage or Frogmore Cottage. Forget about M&H's quarters in Tyler Perry's home.

From the web, here's throwback pics of Meghan's 2015 pre-Harry romance visit to Malta, where one of her ancestors on her father's side lived for awhile before trekking to America...

Some of the pics were featured in the below article. The traditional cape-style headdress is the ghonnella:

What Kate Wore is not run by the same people as Meghan's Mirror.

Well, I can't keep the names together and I'm not that clear on it. But there are some Meghan bloggers who also had a Kate blog. Those who did What Kate Wore surely started What Meghan Wore, although I don't know if the latter is still going. Meghan's Mirror is still up, but they do a lot of features for monetizing that are based on Meghan's former public profile, etc. There's also the Mad About Meghan blog which is very professional and still active.

Queen Elizabeth always takes an interest in her armed forces and has many engagements each year to meet them. Clearly that isn't possible at this time so Zoom comes to the rescue.

Queen Elizabeth rocks Zoom once more!!

We only get to see a small clip but apparently she chatted for quite a while to the service personnel and was very aware of who they all were and what their interests were.

Queen will formally dub Captain Tom Moore a knight at Windsor -- with sword and everything:

I wondered if they would do a special ceremony for him as his knighthood was a special announcement. As he has been self isolating with his family I'm sure they will be doubling down on quarantine to ensure they are all able to attend.

And they always use a sword when knighthoods are awarded - and this one will be one that belonged to the Queen's father. Very special..

Congratulations to Princess Beatrice, who finally got married after the original date had to be postponed:
Let's just ignore her father.

I believe this does it for major European royal weddings for some time. The 20-40 somethings have all married except for some of the Luxembourg royal family, and they're not going to generate that much interest. The next generation of royals in most countries are still teenagers.

But maybe Princess Mako will tie the knot at some point?

Wonder if Beatrice is up the duff? :EVILLE:

Seriously though, congrats to her. A lavish wedding would not have been gauging the mood of the country at the moment and her vile father contributed to that more than the crud.

You're awful @SHARPIE

They were either going to have to wait until 2021 or just go ahead and have a small private wedding after they had to cancel this past May. With the mess that her father has embroiled himself in then the small private wedding was the way to go so kudos and happiness to them and I hope they had a lovely ceremony and are happy.
