This one hurts like hell :(. Even though she was 83, I feel like she was active until so recently (or maybe it’s my warped sense of time?) that it feels a bit unexpected.

What a fascinating person and life. She reinvented herself at 45 and set the stage for so many to follow, except I’m not sure anyone has done it so successfully. And her private life, from childhood all the way through moving to Switzerland and becoming a Buddhist, is endlessly fascinating.

RIP Tina. You are one for the ages!

One of my fondest memories was one Christmas when several co-workers and I provided the entertainment at the big department Christmas party. We made shiny Tina dresses out of tinsel and lip synced and danced to What's Love Got to Do With It. We danced our way out of the party and into a Republican Party event in a nearby ballroom. They were stunned and didn't know what to do. RIP in Tina. That one was in your honor.

After everything she went through, it made me happy to know that she met a partner who adored her (even gave her one of his kidneys to allow her more good years). They were together for many years ensconced in beautiful Switzerland. In spite of her failing health over the last years, I hope she found some peace and will get even more now.

The only scalper tickets I ever bought were for Tina Turner. This is my all time favourite cover song of hers - Help:

Great talent in everything. She said she didn’t want to play shug Avery because “she lived that life” and turned down Color Purple. But she was great in everything so would have rocked the role. But she did want to act so did Mad max beyond thunderdome and produced classic song
