RIP Stan Lee

Stan Lee, Marvel Comics' Real-Life Super Hero, Dies at 95.

Stan Lee, the legendary writer, editor and publisher of Marvel Comics whose fantabulous but flawed creations made him a real-life superhero to comic book lovers everywhere, has died. He was 95.

Lee, who began in the business in 1939 and created or co-created Black Panther, Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Mighty Thor, Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk, Daredevil and Ant-Man, among countless other characters, died early Monday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, a source told The Hollywood Reporter.

In what must have been a great coup for my teacher, Stan Lee lectured my high school creative writing class over 50 years ago. I knew who he was (my brother, three years older, was a great Spider Man and Hulk fan, and would tell me that when the latest Marvel comics would come out, one of his fellow students would leave them in the dorm rec room, and while his fellow U of Chicago students would rush down to read them, would break into their rooms for a little creative thievery), but my primary memory of that day in class was how sexy the girl students (myself included) found Lee.

He must have been truly charismatic, and he definitely changed the face of popular culture for millions of people with his flawed but sympathetic super heroes.

This is totally unexpected! I feel like i have lost a friend. I never even once entertained the notion of him dying! He gave the world so much! Comic book fans and comic book movie fans owe him much more than we could ever express. He is with his beloved Joan now. May he Rest In Peace.

95's a pretty good innings, in the end.

But I guess it was the end of the line. :(

I'm glad he got to see his creations come to life the way they did.

The next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be Captain Marvel in March. It'll be heartbreaking to see "In loving memory of Stan Lee" (or something along those lines) at the end of the film.
The last film in which he'll have a cameo will likely be Spiderman: Far From Home in July, which wrapped filming in October. Unless they show his cameo character in Avengers 4 having disintegrated or passed on in another way.

Someone drew the parallel that after Avengers 4, a new era of Marvel is starting (with the originals leaving the MCU). Stan Lee's era ends at the same time.

There have been some incredibly beautiful tributes to Stan and his genius. He will be missed.
