RIP Matthew Perry

Hot tubs are dangerous, there are people who don't recognize they are overheated or perhaps fall asleep and just slide down. I know he was a well loved actor with a past history of addiction, but hot tub drownings happen frequently

I love taking hot baths, but if I am in too long, I feel a bit lightheaded, so I don't stay as long as I would like too. The hot water lowers your blood pressure.

I hope he is resting in peace and didn’t know what was happening.

We have a hot tub and use it alone but there are rules. Never use when drinking, never use when on any different medication, you must hydrate with water before and after, temperature cannot be over 100 and no more than 20 minutes. We follow the first three even when two of us are using. It really helps with body aches and relaxes me and DH is gone for work a lot so waiting for him to be around would severely limit my use.

I just finished watching the Friends reunion show last night. I thought he really didn’t look good, like all his struggles had really taken something out of him. And I remember him saying he lost all his teeth; I don’t know when that was in relation to when this show was filmed, but he seemed just not totally comfortable. If I’d watched it when it originally aired, I’d have wondered what was going on. Watching it now, it just made me sad to think of all his struggles and now his premature death. RIP Matty.

Yes, I watched it too and after comments saying he didn’t talk much during the show, he said he had had dental surgery right before and was still in pain. I remembered thinking at the time that it was terrible timing but there seemed to be something else more profound too.

So very sad.

Chronic drug use can result in rotting teeth.

I’m curious if there will be a criminal investigation because he has so much ketamine in his system to be considered “anaesthetic” levels.
The ketamine treatment that he was undergoing to combat depression and anxiety as well as I believe addiction was administered by a doctor and controlled.
Back on my partying days Special K was rampant.
I didn’t partake as it scared me but o know the “K-hole” was a real danger, especially if consuming alcohol.
I’m guessing Matthew procured some ketamine through improper channels or convinced a doctor to prescribe more.
Not sure what else makes sense.
He was alert in the morning when his assistant or housekeeper left, only to discover him in the tub when they returned.
So sad and unfortunate.

That is scary.

Of all the drugs and painkillers I’ve been injected with and swallowed in the last six years, ketamine is the only one I could get addicted to. It’s a very nice high. So it’s particularly dangerous, I think.

Due to family history and colon cancer - my favourite (legally given) drugs were Valium and Demerol My family members called it the happy drugs. Unfortunately a lot of people including my sister experienced nausea (that was never me) and they switched to fentanyl - so not as good. Nowadays I have a different clinic and they use anaesthesia and I’m knocked out. I miss Demerol and Valium though.

So disturbing how much K he was injecting into himself
He wasn’t injecting though. Others were doing it. The chilling part is that - I guess either text/email - they were mocking him. At least one dr. I guit listening after that.

Yes they were mocking him. In his final weeks he bought 55k worth of special K. Awful stuff to read.

I have this - I won’t call it weird because that’s inappropriate … never met him personally.. I worked at the school where he attended and the drama teacher (he was awesome) had taught him when he went to school there. So early summer I got a call looking to get in touch with him because they were doing a documentary (maybe like entertainment tonight or something similar I can’t remember). I told them I’d email as teachers have summer off and I knew Greg was very bad at least acknowledging to me the email. Anyways they would contact me regularly to the point I really dreaded the phone call. So fall comes and he comes to my desk and asks me to ship some stuff to them and said “if people knew what was in there it’d be very valuable.” Sometime in the following weeks I got a gift from the media people tshirt, mug .. some other stuff as a thank you. I have no idea what I did with it though because i don’t have it now.I have no idea what I shipped too. I do know that he loved playing tennis there as well.

The baffling part for me is why his personal assistant left him for an errand after knowing that there were incidents before of him passing out, unable to talk etc. and he left him getting into his hot tub. How stupid can you be???

He was long addicted to soooo many things from an early age. Addiction can do terrible damage to the body. I’m pretty sure he just couldn’t survive regardless. Personally if my colon burst that would be a huge, huge wake up call.

My heart goes out to those who loved Matthew Perry but also to all those who continue to struggle with addiction and their loved ones. They so often feel so helpless and live in dread of that terrible phone call. It doesn't seem to me to just be bad coincidence that the assistant presumably alone for hours with Matthew is also, at the very least, agreeable to illegally obtaining a potentially harmful and addictive drug, administering it, and not being overly concerned even when he sees the negative impact it has on his employer. The immense vulnerability of an addict makes them easy prey for unscrupulous people, especially if they have a large bank account. One could lose hope and yet there are individuals such as Elton John who seem headed for a similar fate and successfully turn it around and live a happy and fulfilling life. I have great respect for those who work in the field of addiction.

Today would have been MP's 55th birthday. All these disturbing revelations of his final days, must be tough for his loved ones today. My heart goes out to them.

Also afaik his family has been very pro-active in pushing for an investigation.

Very sad. I finally watched the Friends Reunion from some years ago some months ago, when I had subscribed temporarily to the streaming service that has it in Germany and he seemed like such a nice person.

Doesn't Elon Musk also take a lot of ketamine according to a recent interview? Would certainly explain how increasingly unstable he seems to become.

Something that struck me about the reunion was whenever he spoke you often saw Lisa and Jen frowning, their faces flooded with worry. I think those two were the closest to him, and they looked so concerned and sad for him. It was a dark spot in an otherwise very manicured reunion.

Taking ketamine under the supervision of a medical professional is a recent treatment for certain mental illnesses. If Perry had stuck to that, maybe he would have been fine. (I say maybe because no treatment works for everyone.)

I don't know how risky it is that this turns into an addiction and getting ketamine illegally. It's so sad that this happened to him as he seems like a nice guy and he has obviously worked very hard to deal with his addictions.
