RIP HM Queen Elizabeth II

I did not know the coffin would be lowered down into the crypt. I thought they would move it after the ceremony. Very dramatic finale.

Apparently, there will be room for Charles and Camilla and then either somebody has to be moved out or a new royal crypt established. I don't remember if Richard III was finally moved to Windsor or not. I'm going to have to look that up. And, no, he was not. The remains are at Leicaster Cathedral

Incredible choral music! I'm not religious but those hymns in that setting took my breath away.

I hope all the royal family can go home now and sleep for a week. Two weeks for whoever was in charge of the logistics, plus a medal. I know the funeral has been planned for ages, but to actually pull it off this smoothly is unbelievable.

I was only able to watch a few bits and pieces due to something else I had to attend to, but the moment I lost it was when the announcer was pointing out certain royals coming out of the chapel and casually mentioned “We just saw the Duke of Kent. 70 years ago he walked in the procession for King George at the age of 16.”. It’s the pomp and circumstance, the tradition; you can’t help but be moved.

I was up late (it was 1am here) and I don't remember any mention of pregnancy. Perhaps because I was in the US?
I remember hearing it in Canada, though it came out as kind of tabloid bait, since I remember it being reported that her last words were 'I'm pregnant', but this was later debunked.

In any case, watching the funeral, Charles looks like he's aged 10 years in the last week.

Yes. I hope they do too.

You can "prepare" to be King all your life. The Queen could teach as much as she wanted. But when reality happens, the enormity of it in the moment has to be unbelievable and the emense loss too.

Just the slow marches behind the hearse, at 70, is physically taxing - I don't care how physically fit you are. Add that to lack of sleep, on your feet for hours, meeting public for condolences.

That's a lot.

I’m just starting to watch it now as I had other stuff on the go but I can fast forward slow parts.

Did I hear the family is getting (got) together tonight (may have already done so as it is 7pm here in UDS east coast) for one more part, a final family service.

And, if anyone has a picture of the Queen's horse greeting her one last time, please post. I saw the Corgis, not the horse.

The Queen's pets say goodbye ahead of her Committal Service

ETA: I think the final part is bringing the coffins (The Queen & Prince Philip) out of the royal vault and taking it to the George VI Memorial Chapel, where her parents and sister’s remains are.

The arrival at Windsor was something else, the music made me so emotional. Then the pony and the dogs. I can’t quite yet relate to singing “God Save The King”. It’s been a sombre day, even here in Greece. I will watch all of it when home. Rest in eternal peace Ma’am with your beloved Philp.

A hypothetical question…say if in a few years it is clear Prince George lacks the temperament, maturity, desire, etc., to follow William as king. Princess Charlotte, however, shows a clear aptitude and desire to be queen. Would it be possible for George to step back and let Charlotte take the throne for the good of the country and so George could follow his own dreams?

This whole thing seems so surreal. Even though she was 96, it still seems shocking that she's gone.
If anything her longevity makes it more surreal that she's gone. Three generations were born and grew up during her reign. As Macron said, "To you, she was your Queen. To us, she was The Queen." :)

I hope for a happier outcome such as George abdicating to pursue a career as a gifted concert pianist, so that there can be a queen again. :saint:

In a few years (3-5), George will be a pre-teen or very young teen (He's 9 now). That seems a bit premature to be deciding "oh, he's not going to be a good King." Not that it matters. The answer to your question is that this would only be possible if George abdicated.

I love Charlotte. Seven years old and always telling her brothers how to behave in public. :) She may never be queen, but I suspect she would be a good one.
It would be cool if they had one of those age old competitions to determine who would be the best emperor/empress in the future. Then Charlotte can win. I think all those smiles are just a disguise, she will not hold back when it comes to her brothers. They'll be lucky if they escape with their limbs intact.
