We don't know all the men who will be competing but some are sure to get on their Olympic teams. So I don't think it's too early to start making predictions for the Olympics. In this poll I have only included those who are sure to make the team. However, there is a 'someone else' where you can nominate someone that you strongly believe will be on the team and medal.

You can vote for three.
 
This is sooo difficult but I'm going to risk it and predict the bronze between: Kolyada, Voronov and Adam. :saint:
 
I am a huge Yuzuru fan. I will be very disappointed if he doesn't repeat as Olympic champion.

I think Nathan will be on the podium but not sure of the spot.

Fernandez cannot be counted out. He is always a contender for the gold.

I think Shoma may not handle the pressure well.
 
I think Shoma and Nathan are two big contenders. The only question is if they can handle the nerves.
I wouldn't rule out Chan either tbh.

I wouldn't either. Last year Chan skated a 4-quad LP I think. He won't have the pressure of expectations this year, and that could work for him.

Yep. And if he skates clean he has stellar PCS, so for me he is a serious contender.
Men are difficult to predict cause of the level of difficulties they have.
 
I chose Chen, Yuzu and Shona but yeah, no one can be ruled out.
If I were Yuzu I'd take a risk and plan 3 quads in the long and 2 in the short.
Clean he's unbeatable and he could easily do a 3quad long
Chen might win it all.
And I'd be happy with that.
I'd be thrilled with a bronze for Chan

Important to remember when talking about Patrick Chan is that he was in 3rd place after the short program at each of the last two World Championships. The question is whether he can pull off a decent free skate to hold on to a medal.

The other of question is whether he is training at all - apparently he's in Vancouver and hasn't been in Detroit since before Skate Canada.
 
It is absolutely impossible to predict.
There are too many risks taken is the mens field. So many falls, and so many injuries...
You see just one mistake in the SP, and you are 10 points behind the first after the SP !
I hope it will be a good competition between Uno, Hanyu, Fernandez, Chen, Chan and Kolyada.
 
Nathan won't be on podium. All that base value but fumbly, stumbly will make judges question the Olympic quality of it. Fernandez is going to come out fierce with a flawless pair of skates to podium with his two quad-types. Hanyu will podium but beat by Uno. Uno has young-man's desperation, a lot of base value, and outsized PCS to take it.
 
I hope Javi makes it to the podium, preferably with the OGM, but I'm not going to make any predictions. There are so many great guys who will competing there!
 
I think skating order will influence the placement of Yuzuru Vs Shoma.

I also think there is a possibility that the judges and technical panel could suddenly start giving Shoma lower marks in areas where he has technical flaws but it is not currently reflected in the marks.

In all seriousness I want Javier Fernandez to become Olympic Champion, as for the other medallists I would be happy with multiple scenarios.

And as for who will land on the podium in reality: I think Fernandez, Chen & Uno. Sorry Yuzuru. I think his chances are even slimmer now for me after I read that he will most likely withdraw from the Japanese Nationals as his injury is taking longer to heal.

My bet is Hanyu and Fernandez will be on the podium, because they are veteran competitors, and you're going to bet Hanyu will fight like hell, injury or not. I'm betting the other podium spot is Chen or Uno (NOT saying bronze, just another podium spot). They are not yet seasoned competitors and with their ambitious content, face high odds at skating a good long. Boyang Jin might also sneak in for a bronze as in before, if the others don't skate well.

Kolyada is seeming like a strong bet for top 5 or 6. It's frankly quite silly that people are making a fuss over his supposedly disastrous falls on quads and considering him for Team Trainwreck. He made the right strategic decision to do more quads, including the quad lutz, because he still gets full rotation credit and lots of points, and is reasonably constant on the non-quad jumps. This along vaulted him into the top tier. Where's the heartbreak? He's as good a skater as the other top men sans jumps, and now he is trying more difficult content, fully rotating most quads, and otherwise keeping programs reasonably together.

I'm feeling a bit pessimistic about Patrick Chan's competitiveness right now but will never count him out.

The other men can't expect to crack the podium unless multiple top men totally implode.

I personally hope for Chen and Fernandez on top of the podium. I have a strong distaste for skaters who recycle BOTH programs (including one that is being used for the third season), so I'm reluctant to support Hanyu, as great as he is. I wish Uno could clean up his jump execution, then he'd be an outstanding skater.

Chen - Yuzu - Chan - interesting podium possibility.
Clean is a key for all of them but yeah, if Yuzu skates clean and 3 quads in the LP, gold is likely his.
