I listened to TheSkatingLesson for the first time since January because I thought if he knew anything about Gabby & Guillaume he would slip it in while discussing Hubbell/Donahue. Dave said he heard they're doing something with a singer- songwriter vibe. Make of that what you will.

So not a traditional interpretation? After watching the new RDs this week, I hope they do go somewhat traditional for the costuming. I think Katsalapov wearing a black jacket added something to impression he created. (Yes, it also helps he had the best expression and bearing and sharpness of movement for a tango so far.)

Not sure what a “traditionnal interpretation” means in the rhythmic dance context. I think the interpretation has to match the musical style.

Music, costumes & interpretation are usually considered connected if they constitute a coherent whole (artistically). No doubt G&G will perform a tango which meets this criteria.

Traditional as in doing a Latin dance to Perez Prado vs Shape of You.

I'm not usually a fan of dancing to non-traditional music if it's done DWTS style, but if a team picks the right non-traditional music and truly shows how it can be adapted to the traditional rhythm, I'm all for it.

So how do you interpret this singer/songwriter comment ?With a grain (or many) of salt coming from TSL I know, but let's humour him just because it's fun to make predictions and for the enjoyable fact this thread is finally alive again after such a long silent period.
I'll start, I though it might be sg along the lines of their last EX Gravity.

The best idea that comes to my mind is that they are choreographing their own programs. it's like writing the song you are going to sing.

I have a feeling it's gonna be French music... lol.

Me too, and I hope the stream will be archived or someone will put it on YouTube, because that's way too early in the morning for me to watch on a work day...

Kudos to Guillaume for his choreography this season for J/C's new sp! Check out James/Cipres thread for the link.

Its Ok. It definitely needs to grow. The throw on the musical highlight is great. Unfortunately while I think Guillaume did a good job here, I think the music gets away from them at times. I just think this program needs better skaters with better lines, especially Vanessa.

It needs a lot more attack and emotion from them. It's a very moody and dark song. But its early days and the feed isn't the best.

So we will see how it progresses. I do like that it is so different for a pair team. I highly expect Guillaume to choreograph or coach when he's done being competitive.

Very nice choreography indeed - I like the way it builds on the identity Vanessa and Morgan have established for themselves over the past two seasons, but still brings something new for them to play with. And as it develops over the season I can see it becoming something really special.

I think this interview may explain why J/C are not yet totally comfortable with the program. I like the choreography but it needs more time. It would also help if J/C had better skating skills.

" “[Guillaume] is amazing,” James said. “It was not just a trial. It was something that he really wants to do. He gave everything he had for us.” And she added, he did it for free.

And he stayed in contact. He views videos of their program, and gives them changes to improve it. “And he’s still working on his own program,” Cipres said. “We got something really amazing from him.”

Not only that, Cizeron cut all the music himself. And he has also designed James’ costume – which we will see later in the season.

Is there anything Guillaume Cizeron cannot do?"

The answer is apparently a big fat NO. Color me impressed. The guy is truly talented and now I understand why their skating felt different in this SP, softer but also the lay out.
He is a busy bee but I hope he didn't give all his creative juices to save some for his own programs.

That he brought so much perfectionism and commitment to someone else's progarm makes me feel more reassured that he and Gabby will be prepared. I've been worried about their super late start to training.

I haven't. As 3x WC and Olympic silver medalists, they definitely know how to manage their time. If anything, I'm glad they took lots of time because it's a chance to let new inspirations come to them. So interested to see what direction they'll be going this year!
