Another VM fan (though PC are my second favourite dance team at Olys) coming in to say kudos to Gabby for the way she handled the incident and shame on anyone in the press or social media who is making a big deal of it.

First of all, it's awfully sexist. Would they show it if a male skater had his pants accidentally tearing off, with his private parts hanging out ? (Brain bleach please  )
Ew. But they probably would. Anything “scandalous” to sell papers.

I just wish it would have been Guillaume's nipples exposed then none of that hullabaloo would have happened. He probably even would have skated better than ever :D I just want to laugh about it and I hope they can too one day. She handled it like a true champion and getting really good results considering. Now onward tomorrow and not regrets. Some of the media coverage well :blah:

I wish it was only the tabloïds in France too but it's actually mainstream media. It pisses me off big time that for once they are taking some interest in FS, it's to show this crappy incident and nothing else. First of all, it's awfully sexist. Hey, free the penises! :mitchell:

V/M fan here and yes, of course I feel bad for Gabby. This is not what you train for. I think she'll skate great in their FD as it plays to their strength though.

It's also not the first time we've seen this in figure skating, so no idea what the media fuss is about. Canadian broadcaster CBC has removed the slow motion portion that shows the wardrobe malfunction. If only other media outlets stayed that classy.

Though I admit I found them a bit overmarked and not effectively/at all dinged for the twizzle, I have to hugely commend Gabby for her reaction to an extremely unfortunate circumstance. She handled the malfunction with grace and calmness, and I don't think any of us could have done better. And also huge kudos to Guillaume for being such a wonderful and supportive partner.

I'm so impressed with the performance, actually. To skate like that, given the malfunction, is quite incredible.
Whatever the final outcome, they'll come out of those Games stronger competitors.
Both teams are wonderful, but if both skate perfectly the FD, it seems that the stars are aligned for the Canadians, as they'll be skating last.
I don't thank Didier Gailhaguet for jixing P&C !

Ideally both top two will skate amazingly so will be close, I would like Scott an Tessa to win but i assumed that unless errors P & G will win gold. So now it could go either way and I’m fine with that. I’m just really excited that the French team are so young so I hope we get to watch them for a few more Olympics.

I was totally fine with them being beaten by Virtue/Moir, but that it has happened in this way is just heartbreaking.

I felt the same way before the event, but now I aggressively want them to win the gold. There would be a lot ranting about overscoring and corruption, but let's be real, that's been happening since they broke 200 in China, and it would have happened even if they had been absolutely perfect. Davis/White endured the same and they've survived nicely.

I don't know how it's being presented in other countries, but US media is presenting the FD as a tight contest for the gold, and there's a lot of praise of their actual performance and of Gabriella in particular. It's not being covered like their SD was a disaster and it would be a scandal or even a surprise if they end up winning.

Before the FD, I want to take a moment to celebrate that they got a L4 and perfect GOE on the No Touch with her costume falling down. Rocks stars indeed! Even the President of Skate Canada gave them +3.

It's also very gratifying that they earned the highest GOE on their rhumba both here and the GPF. It has become a thing of beauty.

I hope to see a perfect SD at Worlds, for revenge. :sheep:

And for tonight (European me is already exhausted), a great skate. The outcome doesn't matter at this point. They are the best when they are together sharing these moments on the ice, it's above skating for them. In the end this is what they'll remember. For us, only the pleasure to watch them skate :cheer2:

Well, in real time I didn't even realize Gaby's goregous body was overly exposed to the point of Janet Jackson 'No you didn't level' Too much over-focus on shaming female anatomy. Gaby has nothing to be ashamed of. FGS, have people never seen nipples before? :drama: Would the judges have taken off points or something if her top had fallen off completely? :duh:

Here's how gorgeously and freely P/C can skate that program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xapk87p55T8

Ben Agosto just said on Olympic Ice that Tessa missed an important edge in the SD, but that NBC has additional angles the judges might not. But he sounded very certain. He also recognized the not perfect twizzle from Gaby.

Yes, and Charlie W. agreed. I wasn't clear where it was in the dance, but I think it must have been in the rhumba pattern, because that's where there are required edges, if I understand it correctly.

Also, it's been heartening to hear how blown away the NBC commentariat (Scott H, Tara, Johnny and Tanith) are by P/C. Hearing such rapturous praise from other leading skaters really helps to balance out some of the crueler online voices.

I'm a million pieces because I think they would have been Olympic champions had it not been for that costume malfunction. It's a silly reason to lose the gold medal. I always thought V/T would be leading after the short but by less points.

However, they can be proud of the way they handled the situation, and how amazingly they skated that beautiful free dance. I hope that looking back they will be able to see that and not the disappointment. They really did their very best.

Silver (after Virtue/Moir) at their first Olympics is nothing to laugh about!

They were stunning. It’s theirs in 2022.

No, it's not. Four years is a long time and a lot can happen in four years. They're the best example, as barely anyone knew their names four years ago.
They also need to stay healthy, motivated and get through the competition without a mistake.

I'm crushed but I hope that they are not and that they can celebrate their fantastic free dance, accomplishment and silver medal.

They were gorgeous tonight, as always. It's such a pity it wasn't enough for the Gold in the end. I loved them since first seeing them as juniors in 2012-13. It's been quite a journey so far, and I so wanted them to win tonight.

Looking forward to seeing what the journey to Beijing is like, and how they surpass themselves in the coming seasons.

I LOVE their FD!!!!! It´s like they´re flying over the ice, that´s something nobody else can. When watching the other couples it looks like they have to work for each element. With Gabriella and Guillauime you never ever see it´s hard work! That´s what make them soooo special! They can be proud what they achieved there! A silver medal is great!!!!!! And I will remember THEIR FD for the rest of my life and will rewatch it over and over again! They´ll always be my all-time favourites as they bring to sport something nobody else can. Gabriella and Guillaume: I love you and congratulations to the silver medal and the WINNING FD!!!
