Papadakis/Cizeron #5 - We're In Love With The Shape Of You

He said it at the end of the discussion after he and Charlie spoke gushingly about their FD and noted how much they've outscored V/M with it.
About that....
Virtue and Moir lead Papadakis and Cizeron by 1.74 points after the short.

Papadakis and Cizeron's winning margin over Virtue and Moir in the free dance at the Grand Prix Final? 1.76 points.

Buckle up, folks.
It could come down to a 0.02 points difference tomorrow, WC2014-style. Or not.

I doubt she finds it funny now yes. But it's not as bad as it seems. And they have serious chances of winning the gold. That would be quite the story.

One reason I find it funny though is that I don't find it that shocking - it's barely noticeable except at the end, and even then, there's nothing to be ashamed of. Maybe I should join the Free The Nipple movement.

Gabriella is tough, and she handled it very well.

This WSJ article features comments not only from PapCiz but also from Marie-France, e.g.:
Marie-France Dubreuil, a coach to Papadakis and Cizeron, said the costume had been snapped and sewn shut but must have come undone at the top during an early move. She said she turned to another of the couple’s coaches, Romain Haguenauer, and wondered what they should do, but realized the couple would lose a significant number of points for stopping the performance to correct the problem and likely fewer by toughing it out.
“She has nerves of steel,” Dubreil said. “Good thing, it wasn’t in the free dance where there’s a lot of upside down lifts. … It had an effect on their performance, of course, because instead of dancing and being in the moment, they were just, like trying to keep it together. So there was not the same freedom of movement as they normally have.”

Ok, I´m a horrible fan! I didn´t notice the malfunction until I read about it here! Now, after re-watched the program, I´m shocked I didn´t noticed it. Ok, it was 5 am, I was tired with all the lack of sleep because of the Olympics but I ´m ashamed I didn´t saw it. Now I´m even more proud of them! They handled it sooo well! Gabby is a star! So surprise the trwizzles were not perfect as she must have been afraid the costume comes down. German commentators also didn´t mention the malfunction so maybe they also didn´t see it? But hey, how blind can I be??? Argh! I´m now sooo looking forward to the FD! Whatever colour their medal will be - for ME they´re the best of the best!

I just saw that Gabbys malfunction is THE topic in the German Yellow press. With several photos :mad::mad: I HOPE she stays away from internet!

I was totally fine with them being beaten by Virtue/Moir, but that it has happened in this way is just heartbreaking.

I'm not fine with this result because actually V/M didn't beat them in the SD. A major costume malfunction beat them. The way they skated in spite of the problem shows that they would have been on par or even better than V/M if no costume problem had happened.

I want to say how impressed I am by them, by Gabi in particular. I love that sd which is the best IMO. I love them and what they are doing. They are wonderful skaters and gorgeous dancers besides being very nice and courageous people.

What I'm not impressed with is the way too many of the V/M fans have behaved up until the OG and continue to react now. Shame on them. I hope Gabi and Guillaume skate it out of the ball park in the FD and get the gold.

So are some french newspaper, showing horrible picture yet title says "worst nightmare". People on twitter are insulting those newspaper and rightfully so. They have no shame at all.

So are the yellow papers in Finland. I should not have supported them by clicking the news. Mea culpa.

Here is another person hoping that they will just have an incredible FD. Even Mr. Finnice was in tears when he saw that at the Europeans.

In a few years she'll probably laugh about it, especially if they win which they hopefully will! (also someone said it's difficult to win two Olympic golds in ice dance, I guess the judges want new winners?)

It's not about winning several golds, that's a narrative made in case V/M don't win, because some of their fans don't believe in their ability to do so sometimes, when they can totally do because they are one of the best teams ever, so some blame it on "fixing" results. Just that it's difficult to win when you have a such a talented team against you. And P/C FD scored very well all season. But I'll say it again : tomorrow is not about winning at this point. Shades of Worlds 2017. ;)

So... I did rewatch it, thinking, "focus on the program not on the costume malfunction".

Well, aside from the twizzles which got downgraded in GOE, it was far from a disaster... I mean truly really far from what I saw that was written. Their skating skills are off the charts though. They did rightfully get a Pst level3 when Gaby was doing her twizzle she was not stable (well, I don't want her top to get off so...) but the rest was actually... good. Despite critics, I mean try to even fight me on this one.
PCS wise, they got the highest on Skating Skills, Transitions and Compositions. Obviously certainly not on Performance and Interpretation.

Thank you. I agree. Some people are acting like they went out and fell all over the ice. It was a good performance. Certainly not their best, but good!

Yeah, the performance was perfectly fine, not their best but not bad either. With a strong FD they still have a chance to win.

I have to say I'm rather surprised on how much attention woman's bare nipple can still get. However, many of the articles have positive vibe. She is being described as professional based on the way she handled the malfunction.

I noticed on Twitter that a lot of French news outlets were showing a picture of it. She should stay away from social media.

I'm a V & M fan who's mad about people showing the pics. A woman works hard for a big event, has a stupid thing happen, and dummies publish pics and make cheap jokes. A comedian I follow on twitter did so, then further insulted me in a DM ("I'm sorry YOU don't like it"), so I Unfollowed him.

Doesn't matter whom I usually root for, it's about showing respect for a female athlete.

I hope they are able to skate lights out. Of course this isn't the best position to be in and really unfortunate. But I hope that makes the FD more special. At this point, there is nothing to lose. While dance is usually not big on excitement as the scores pretty much tend to stay the same, the scores are really close between a lot of teams and things could still shake up. I was amazed by the pairs event at this Olympics so I hope they can do well.:)

You are a class act, @TalentedButHumble. And so are you, @Fizz. :respec:

Agreed, I didn't see anything until the replay, later with a slow motion close up...like come on... did they have to show it ??? anyways, I was mortified for Gabriella. Strange how that it was supposed to have been sewn shut and still came loose, and that it had happened once before in practice this week according to Kurt Browning. Why weren't their coaches/costume making sure it was securely fastened? why did this apparently happen TWICE?

I don't know if their placement is unfortunate... I think they like being behind, they feel less pressure (at least that's what they said before). :rollin:

By position I wasn't referring to placement. I was referring to the circumstances they are in due to the mishap, having to deal with the media etc. asking dumb questions repeatedly. I agree that it can be a good thing having to come back from behind. More hunger to redeem yourself and less chance of skating cautiously. That helped Nathan and Aliona and Bruno to deliver some of their best skating. :D

So are the yellow papers in Finland.
I wish it was only the tabloïds in France too but it's actually mainstream media. It pisses me off big time that for once they are taking some interest in FS, it's to show this crappy incident and nothing else. First of all, it's awfully sexist. Would they show it if a male skater had his pants accidentally tearing off, with his private parts hanging out ? (Brain bleach please  )
