Papadakis CIzeron #4 - Happiness Does Not Wait

Really especially for Misha Ge, I believe it was his 1st GP win and doesn't even get a medal. What were they thinking and the size  I mean at least give the same size but use the gold/silver/bronze color system. I mean they already got a lot of mocking remarks last year regarding those cardboard cut-out looking medals both in the French GP and at the Marseilles GPF. I can't believe they gathered and say: "you'll know what would redeem last year's failure, giant yellow star" French people sometimes, don't know if they just try do be different for the sake of it but tradition can be nice sometimes.

Well their biggest challenge is yet to come and that's not the Olympics, that's the GPF. I just want them to hold their nerves against the big competition. While V/M are more nervous when competiting against someone who isn't there (mind games don't do them well) they just know how to compete and rise when the big guns are directly against them. For now, P/C is the opposite and I want them to prove me wrong of course. They've been very tactical, yet, not too much to not fall into it.
I personally can't wait for the showdown. It's going to be an amazing competition !!
Do we know about the starting order ? the SD order is reversed from the GP ranking or is it a draw between 1-2-3 for the final group ?

The fan did a fantastic job filming that, they were in a great position. And I love the music now, it’s grown on me, it’s perfect for them, will go over majorly with the Olympic audience.

It's a half-day on the day before Thanksgiving. 95% of my students are immigrants from Central America. What else have we been doing all day than watching all the Latin SD's in the GP series? :) Some of them have even been dancing along to the music.
No exaggeration here at all--- the SD they thought was the best was Papadakis/Cizeron's. I showed them >10 teams, including all the top competitors' programs. They just preferred P/C's dancing to the rest. The other one they really liked the was Smart/Diaz (I think it's because so many were viscerally reacting to how hot Adria is).

What did they say about the other teams? Ever since Finlandia, I found myself watching P/C's SD a lot. Despite my misgivings about the music choice, I do think they dance it well and there's something captivating about it. I think Gaby has the best body rolls of whole competition because it's not OTT but looks very natural. Their constant arm changes too are so compelling to watch.

Similarly, I showed some co-workers some of the different SDs before IdF, and most of them reacted positively to P/C's SD right away based on their attitude and movement especially since I showed them that one after Bobrova/Soloviev's. They look like actual dancers which is amazing considering what great actual skaters they are. Usually you have one or the other, but not both. Tessa also has that quality.

That's great ! What did they (genuienely) say about others ?

I think it also have a lot to do with the music too : Did you know that "Shape of You" is the most streamed song on Spotify ? And that "Thinking out Loud" is the 6th ? (Source : Wikipedia and Spotify)
This is why sometimes I get confused at some people not liking mainstream songs on the forum : @VIETgrlTerifa I know in the Shibs thread how a lot of people seemed concerned about Coldplay for the FD choice, some of them not liking it. This is THE first time I've been told someone doesn't like Coldplay (usually people tell me they like it, love it or just don't listen to it. But never dislike ! They aren't your typical band, they really are transcendant - but that's the huge Coldplay fan in me talking rn). I personally really like both those artists and it helps A LOT that these are skaters that are skating to it.
Tobias/Tkachenko were supposed to skate to Shape of You for their SD too but now I don't know if we'll ever see it.
(And I looove the reaction to Adria )

I thought I would lose them by showing any of the FD's (too long and not current music), but after they told me P/C was the best, I showed them the Moonlight Sonata FD from GP France. Some of them *clapped* at the end. It was kind of amazing.

As far as the other teams, they weren't going to be negative about anyone since this was a brand new experience for all of them anyway-- watching ice dancing. They were most attentive to the programs where the guy was good looking and danced well, like F-B/S and C/L. That makes sense since the boys (except my openly gay one who was singing along and dancing) were watching but less invested than the girls.

Using your students as skating lab rats, very :respec: good to know they enjoyed P/C because many seem to question the latin feel of their SD. There is a true natural dancing quality to it which classic ballroom doesn't capture well being often too OTT. Clapping after MS at TDF, it happened to me too so much so I scared my cat :cat:and I fully approved about Sorensen.

I hope Sorensen wins PSOTY of the year. It would be a crime if he didn't, especially when you consider his looks in both dances this year.
The emoji :smokin: isn't enough hahahaha.

I was not aware of Ed Sheeran's popularity (outside skating community) either but this is actually massive the Shape of you video has 2,7 billions views on youtube and Thinking out loud got 1,9  Plus I don't know if you've seen this but a fan made this mash up video of Gaby and Guillaume waltz SD on Ed Sheeran's Perfect song which has already gathered 1,4 millions views, clearly from the comments most are just Sheeran's fan but they love the skating (hopefully it'll bring some fan to the sport)

OMG where do you live @cocotaffy ?!?!?! Ed Sheeran is everywhere! There's too much of him! Hahaha !
 so tbh I discovered the guy only last June during a talent show at my kids secondary school. One girl came on stage and started to sing the Shape of you (a sign maybe :D) and everyone, even the parents, started to bob their heads being all excited about it. So I leaned to my neighbour asking whose song it was as she, a 50 year old, was singing along enthusiastically. She looked at me a bit puzzled and said Ed Sheeran. Then I forgot about it till P/C's music announcement. After that I had to do a thorough investigation about the guy via youtube as a true uber does :D But yes, I choose to listen to radios and shows which don't seem to include Ed Sheeran much. So who else should I be aware off ? :shuffle:

Haha I was thinking about answering seriously but it's also an opportunity to say that I'd really like them to use one of these song (Charlie Puth) for their exhibition.

No I didn't actually :D but I think I prefer Ed Sheeran :p I want them to do an exhibition on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYlUeifL3LQ plus this is actually a French group from Toulouse. Might be more a song for a single skater but I just like the sass of it.

Is there a French National competition in December? It looks like there usually is, but haven't heard anything about it?
