We had such a good time at the Santa Rosa show! Mr Skateycat and I had VIP on ice tickets. The morning of the show, we got an email from Doug Webster saying that we could observe the edges class from 545 to 645 pm, and that our on ice seats would be ready at 645. So we did. Doug was the main teacher, but almost the whole cast was on the ice working with individual students or demonstrating.
I have to say that high level skaters even make backward swizzles look gorgeous.
Towards the end of the class, some of the rink staff rolled a carpet wide enough for two rows of folding chairs and a little white lattice fence about one foot tall. That was the on ice seating. This is important later.
During the break between the class and the show at 715, I got to meet
@myhoneyhoney and we had a nice visit!
The show was amazing. The on ice seats were a little intense though! At one point, there were four skaters doing a back spiral together. If Mr Skateycat had stuck his face out a bit, he could have gotten a shave! And then at one point, Rohene Ward did a triple near us, but he fell, slid, knocked the little fence down, and nearly ended up in my and my neighbor's lap!
All the skating was gorgeous. My favorites were the duet with Alissa & Gabriella, and a trio with Gage Brown, Ryan Dunk, and Jean-Simon Légaré. There wasn't a dull moment. Sometimes I just watched their blades and just marveled at beautiful skating.
We did the meet & greet at the end, which was a great deal of fun to say hi to everyone and congratulate them on a lovely show.
Mr Skateycat and I went to grab a small bite to eat at a nearby restaurant, and the skaters happened to be having their dinner there as well. I didn't bug them though, as I didn't have anything to say.
