i dunno what's the matter with me. even the much better finlandia footage hasn't sold me on this fd. yes, they are masters of ice dance and they show off their mastery very well with this choreography. yes, the program as a whole is very very beautiful. but it's still too sleepy. i still feel underwhelmed at the end of it even though there are many moments that i really love.

send help.

All the programs are like this or gravitate to this aesthetic with few exceptions notably the Brits. But the comments in the Kiss and Cry indicate that you'd have to be in the arena to appreciate it.

I am still waiting for proper camera works. The angles were not the best at Finlandia especially for the choreo step which should be filmed from the front. There is work to do for them to really own it, they are still nervous and a bit hesitant in the first part. It will come. But for me it is the most mature program of theirs, more so than MS. Loving the music probably helps too. Happy they got reassuring scores for the FD. They looked relieved. Gaby looks like having trouble with her feet though. I've never seen them taking off their skates like this in the K&C before. Maybe new skates.

I understand. I've noticed they've polished some parts of the dance already - added more details which makes the music and the dance come out more. Its last part is already mesmerising for me. Maybe, add a new lift/change one of the current ones into one that would really stand out? That would be the moment of the dance?
Love Gabi's bun, but I desperately need them to change their costumes, especially Gabi's. Something that would also help to connect the dance, their movements and the music. And yes, while I'm writing this, I do realise that there's absolutely no need for them to decide by my wishes. : D
I guess they need more time with this dance, even though it may not look like it at first, to leave everyone in the arena and at home speechless. No doubt they'll do that. And I'm happy for their fd score!

The FD is stunning live that is all… I didn’t feel for a second like it is sleepy. i don’t like the RD as it has a lot of armography and I also don’t like the music… just not my thing

well happy to know its just me. ahhh, to see skating live again! mad jelly of everyone who got to see it in the arena!

Everyone's questions regarding the use of tango choreography and whether they're continuing post olympics answered here.... or at least their current state of mind.

For the non-French speakers, they basically said that :

-it was tough to do 2 competitions back to back after a 20 months break, but they're very satisfied with their performances. They go back to Montreal today and will look at the scores closely to see where to improve.

-they didn't keep the tango for their FD because they don't know if they'll keep competing next year. So if it's their last, they wanted to skate to Élégie.

-their feet hurt at the end of their performance because they are "new" skates from last March, but nothing to worry!

French is not my native language but I interpreted their answer to mean that it’s normal to have sore legs after a competition. Their skates were not new, they have been using them since March 2021.

Yes that's why I put new between "..". They say they're bad at changing their skates so I supposed they didn't used them much since March..? I don't know haha

Question: Why all the low step sequence levels? Come on....what was up with that? Why not give the level but lower the GOE?

Ice dance has very meticulous rules about what constitutes each level. During the patterns they are looking for key points, for example, that need to be done on correct edges (with absolutely no wavering on the edge or changing edges or using assistance) and with correct timing. Because something looks nice doesn’t mean the element actually is being done correctly at all, and that’s why the tech panel is there.

Of course yes. But when you look through almost all the protocols, the average level for step sequences of all categories was 2? From the top down? Isn't that not strange? Or is it how it always goes at the beginning of the season?

It's pretty common for the beginning of a season. Step sequence levels are hard to get in ice dance; they take precision and a lot of work. Everyone's skating new programs on their first or second competitive outing (Masters doesn't count), so they're not at that level of precision and haven't had time to do that amount of work yet.

Not strange, it's the beginning of the season.
And there there is Mrs Goldon Poltorak, who quite blatlantly works for/with Zhulin (and his hitman) always nowadays, and is "tough" when it suits her.
She has forgotten how she used to love ice dance back in the 2000s and how she ranted about those kind of political plays. Now she's just what she used to hate, and she's quite good at it too.
And I dare say that's something I'd never have guessed she would become. I wonder if she sleeps well.

I did not know this. It just seemed particularly harsh. How many does he have in his pocket on the Olympic ice dance panel for Beijing?

I like a move at the end of the choreographic arm movements as they make their way over to the judges. Gabby places her hand on his shoulder and he shrugs it off only a little thing but I like.
Everything is a moment they don't need a highlight. Their lines as they do crossovers its like a balletic piece and the lift at the end before the spin. The whole ting. The lightness of the step sequence when the music chances using twizzles as transitions. It's all up in there. Sigh.

Gotta say I’m obsessed with the waacking rhythm dance. So cool ? Has the wow factor. Now I want to learn waacking  I’ve already watched it several times. Also love the free dance…high art.

But I fear that the Russian Fed is working its Svengali behind the scenes Olympic year efforts with the judges and that no matter how good P&C are, S&K will win. Hope I’m wrong.

The Fed is sure trying but I feel sorry for S/K. I am sure that they are mortified by what's going on. I also just read that Nikita's back problems caused them to withdraw from their last competition. Not good for them!
