i love gabby's fd dress but dislike how similar guillaume's fd costume is to his rd costume. when i first saw the photos of the fd, i thought maybe his fd costume wasn't ready. and it doesn't seem to correspond to her costume in the fd at all. maybe if he was also wearing a sleeveless top (like his 2017 fd top) in a better color?

anyhow, here's a cute little vid of two kiddos excited to watch p/c practicing the rd at their skate club ?

Those kids are adorable. ?

I find Guillaume's top works for me (though I hope the bits that look like ties are actually sewn in place or he could end up having a costume malfunction at some point this time!) because it's in the same colour as the underlayer of Gabriella's dress and the visible seams etc echo the straps and seams in that part of her costume. The similarity stands out very clearly for me in this picture, but I have to admit it wasn't as visible in the camerawork from Epinal. Hopefully Finlandia will provide better video!

I find there are a lot of comments about their eventual retirement at the end of this Olympic season. Much, much too much for my taste. But I tell myself - and I pinch myself to be sure to be awake - that a GPF 2023 in Orléans and a 2024 World Championship in Montreal, are remarkably motivating benchmarks to continue their adventure and, in part, erase a frustrating year 2020 (cancellation of the world championship in Montreal). Obvious, right?

The case where competition ice will be a lot less interesting than show ice. But we wait something is a coming.

Let's see the score of Chock/Bates, maybe that's a tough panel..
But yeah ???
looks like there was some mis-timing on the part of one or the other in the last set of twizzles, but i think they both got their rotations in.

edited-- on second watch of the slo mo, looks like gabby slipped a little on one of the rotations. not too much, but threw off her trajectory a bit.

Yeah, it looks like she just lost a little balance at the start of the third set and lost some speed as a result, but she got all the rotations in.

Video is here. The camerawork shows a lot more of their hand and arm work than the video from French Masters could. It's amazing how detailed it is!

oh, i didn't think we were allowed to post @Braulio's vids outside of kiss n cry

Must be daunting to come back to an international competition after 20 months, they looked more nervous, less assertive in their skate. Good they did Finlandia get the first comp stress out of the window. When is their next competition ?

november at the competition formerly known as lalique, i believe. lots of time to polish!

Yeah, I think they managed the nerves as well as they could. They should feel less tight in the free with this first skate out of the way. They easily lost 5 - 7 points today because of the low levels because of it. Forward!!

I am a bit worried though because I am not wowed by the FD yet (early times, I know) ...
Their skating skills are amazing and I have no doubt that they are the best (ever)!
I feel a lack of structure in their FD ... as if things are not clicking together ?

I love it just as is. I've grown to appreciate it more than the RD.

I was at the rink, and I and so many of the crowd thought it was mesmerizing. They were so sharp with the hand movements and soft when it was needed.
do you mind saying how they compared to you all to c/b? from the video, c/b looked noticeably slower and less powerful. i was surprised to see the scores so close.

I'd say it's mostly the base levels.
Papadakis & Cizeron had NYNY on key points (Chock & Bates had NYYY), and P's twizzle section was rated a 2 (C&B both 4s).

If P&C could've had YYYY and both rated 4s, that's about 3 points in just base value. Which would put their RD at about 88-89 points.

P&C clearly won on execution (gained 16 points to C&B gaining 13 points) and were a little closer than I expected on the components (about 1pt between the two).

yeah, it was the components that i was most surprised by. chock & bates skated well for their first time out this season, but not <2pts away from papadakis & cizeron's performance today. and while the music is trendy and clearly compelling to the audience who was clapping throughout most of it, i didn't find the movement to be as fresh and surprising.

I actually found the first part of C/B's RD flat ... not their usual style.

Just from watching the beginning of this rd, I can't help but feel they're gonna slay it out out there. Now they've finally entered the competition, so with a bit more practice and fewer nerves, it's gonna be perfect.
I am no expert but only judging by the last Olympic season, I'm so curious to see how the programs will have grown by the time we see them in November. :)
