They both have impressive 3Lz.

Tonya had the 3T-3T and the 3Lp while doing a shorter program, in terms of time.

I have to give it to Harding.

Agree with the content, but overall I'd give it to Orser on the second mark.

Is it just me, or did anyone notice how similar the first 30 seconds was to Elvis' KungFu opening? Similar arm waving then the glide into the lutz? Gotta love that Uchi choreography. Such range has she.

By normal standards, Orser should be way ahead of Harding on the second mark, but Harding's program is so compelling that, if one were to place him first on that second mark, it wouldn't be by a big enough margin to overcome her lead on the first mark.

Harding all the way! :kickass:

This is brilliant! If you’d said in another thread that Harding reminds you of Orser I’d call you crazy, but the partellels here are hysterical! How is it that Tonya never skated to techno firebird? It’s made for her.

Yeah, Tonya on the first mark because Brian bailed on the 3t/3t, but Brian on the second mark for the win. Irina may have tried her best to dethrone him but Orser will always be the undisputed queen of arm flailing!! :drama: and although the choreo and programs were oddly similar I still feel that the body movements came more naturally to Brian so that it all seems organic while the same choreo would be stiff or cheesy on anyone else.

Plus his blue bling blouse is prettier than Tonya’s and the curly bob is a more flattering doo than those aggressive bangs/fringe (she’s wearing them but somehow they’re in your face!) and sloppy pony. I know the pony is a skating staple but I always felt a LP packaging shouldn’t say “I’m about to wash my face before going to bed, so let me just tie this back for a second”

And just as an added bonus, the “wuz robbed” :drama: Tonya would have thrown down after doing more jumps but losing on artistry would have been :watch:

Orser shouldnt have even won the Canadian mens title over Gary Beacom that year. It was 100% reputation.

Really?

I can't find Orser's performance but Beacom only landed a 3lutz cleanly. The 3sal had a foot down save, and the 3flip had a touchdown fall out. Add some 2axels, and that was his content. I can't imagine Orser doing worse than this program.

Also, this is off topic, but this was a cool clip of Jozef and Brian squaring off with the 4toe. I'm surprised Brian never went for it in competition (or did he?). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2IaPXg6DaE

1983 Beacon won figures and the sp so was the leader going in to the lp. Just a hunch, but if his lp was good wouldn’t it be up on youtube?

Hey, we need some "ridiculous" polls to cheer things up, given what is being discussed in Great Skate Debate.
This! But even before that, the skip was overrun with too many “which beloved champions from the past only won because their rivals had an eating disorder” type threads for my taste. These are fun!
