"No one knows Mirai's mirai" Nagasu cheer thread

Mirai landed a 3A(2ft) in her EX program and got a big reaction from the audience yesterday (on the first day of THE ICE).:) Shame Fuji TV didn't air her program. That said one of the most popular parts of the show - a collaboration program with Mao & Jefferey which was to Madama Butterfly this year was not aired either. So whatever.
Happy she was greatly appreciated! Have fun in Japan, Mirai. :cheer2:

Mirai just did her SP clean at The Ice with a 3A, 3F+3T and 3Lz. She just retweeted a bunch of reaction from Japanese fans. There is no video...:wuzrobbed

Another Rockin' 3A attempt! :respec::rockstar:

Our girl is getting there. She seems to be landing the elusive 3A cleaner and cleaner as time goes by. Her efforts are certainly stronger looking than those of of a couple of years ago - and this in her mid-20s! She truly is an inspiration - like Ashley and Carolina who didn't give and kept working hard until success came (even if a little later in their respective careers).

I'm going to be cheering for Mirai all the way! :cheer2::cheer::cheer2::cheer:

At the end, I hope that no one can say that Mirai Nagasu didn't at least try and give it all she had!

I LOVE that she is using exhibitions as 'practice' for those 3As (as well as her SP!) I think it's a terrific idea! It kind of reminds me of the cheerleaders in "Bring It On" who used football games to practice their competition routines! The more that Nagasu performs her SP in front of a crowd (even if it's 'just' an exhibition crowd) the more comfortable she will be with the SP and her 3A attempts imo.

I won't get ahead of myself but I am feeling rather very hopeful for Mirai's Olympic season at this point - and it's just the end of July! :D

Does anyone know when Mirai's next competition is? I'd love to see her get at least another summer competition or two under her belt before the fall season begins.

I think it's all speculation on Mirai's relationship with Frank. People tend to forget that the reason she split from him was because he moved to Palm Springs and she didn't want to move there (or her parents didn't want her to). The commute was too long from LA.

I wouldn't read too much into that one dear. Some posters refuse to think anything negative of Frank, and that he's always the answer for everyone, it's clearly the skaters fault that it's not working out, etc. Frank-love being in one's eye is very real and very common. Frank is perfection.

Frank is wonderful but he isn't for everybody, at every stage of their skating career, and it's not all about him. And blah blah blah I've said this at least thirty times in Gracie's thread last year. :barrel(Before US Nationals...? :p ) Go Tom!!! :kickass:

:lol: Yeah, so far before US Nationals that it was probably first said by you actually when Mirai split with Frank ... Or maybe even when Goebel split with Frank ... :rofl: ...

... I'm just happy to see 3As, even if in practice on Instagram :biggrinbo ... Go, Tom!

The seed was first planted with Michelle Kwan. If the Kween goes rogue in an Olympic year, after being a 4-time (and current at the time) world champion, right before an Olympic season in her own country, well... :shuffle: I love him but for chrissakes does it get any more crystal-clear than that?!

There is no "perfect coach" for any skater long-term, it doesn't exist! Sometimes people change and the coach does not.

Mirai is in tiger mode, I really hope it continues because she has the potential to be a fabulous competitor. She can't have any negative thoughts though, but I think that she'll work through them this time. I hope that she'll work through them this time. Girl looks fierce!

Who can be exactly what someone age 15-25 needs all the time for the whole time? :shuffle:

... Mirai hopefully has hit a peak in her athletic development that coincides with an Olympic year, and it will be fun to watch.

However, I am just happy that she was able to share the results of her hard work with us, and hope she is happy with herself for getting results from her efforts.

Hard work -> Improvement :cheer2:

Well then he should toss the team USA jacket in the garbage can when a 15-23 year old asks him to then. :saint: He's just doing what he's told and doesn't need to change his frame of mind to deal with an adolescents emotional problem. :p (I'm going to get :lynch: for that one at some point)

Mirai, Mirai, rah rah rah! :cheer:

I was not saying Frank was perfect or had no negatives. What I was saying was that the reason for the split was Frank's move to Palm Springs. Personally, I think Mirai should have fired Frank after he made negative comments about her performance at 2011 Nationals to the press. But she didn't (though she went on that year to get a bronze at 4CCs without Frank). As for Tom, is there any other coach who would have pushed Mirai to learn a triple axel at this stage in her career? If she does it at Nationals and makes the Olympic team, he deserves coach of the year.

Frame this! Great post! :)

^That went out the window on triple axel number 3. But yeah, once again for the sake of bad memories I'm not buying it young lady.

I don't expect to see that beautiful, gorgeous, magnificent, fully rotated triple axel point-getter at all. Proving me wrong is fun! :cheer2:

(It's starting to look like Mao's, just swish)

Perhaps I am in the minority when it comes to Mirai but I really don't think she needs a 3A to win. She looks bored when she skates-her programs are seriously boring to watch. And she still gets decent scores. She has beautiful spins and some beautiful moves but the majority of her programs just drag on and on. There is no excitement to her skating at all she usually looks like she is asleep. Why wouldn't her team work on the actual performance? Shouldn't she look like she is trying? I think as far as natural talent, no one can compare to her in the US but girl needs some spark. It has been missing since 2010 Olympics...

She was US Champion, 4th at her first Olympics, and 1st in the SP at worlds that year. I know lately she has had mountains to climb but earlier in her career, things were kind of being handed to her and she just did not seize the opportunity.

Alas, there is not going back in time.

I think a lot of that "spark" left when she started focusing on how many degrees around her landing foot is.

Completely disagree with your entire post. That is all.

I wish she would be more animated on the ice on a consistent basis but one really can't know what it going on is someone else's head. I never got the impression Mirai looks bored during her program.. nervous maybe a little awkward yes but never bored. I assume you are just being dramatic about her "spark" being missing since the 2010 Olympics because that is just simply wrong. She has had many skates since then where she is skating well and with expression but if you have your doom and gloom glasses on you are not going to see them. I agree she doesn't need the triple axel to win a competition but it couldn't hurt.

So.. you clearly haven't seen her new long program this season have you? She has a new long program this year and it's beautiful. Best out of all the US ladies so far! :kickass:

Your post would've been :respec: after US Nationals last year, but times they are a'changin!

I also wanted to be 4th person in a row to reply to your post, just in case you missed the first 3 replies. :p
