No to Queen. Nyet. Nein. Non.
아니. いいえ! yok hayır. 没有! Nej. Ei!

I love the opening of Mirai's Firebird program, Bebe did a lovely job with that. I'm so glad she's skating to Miss Saigon this season. :kickass: bless you Jeff Buttle

Oh, I hope she pulls it off in the shows. It will be perfect prep for the fall. That was glorious!

I hope so too!

:shuffle: I also sorta want to bubble wrap her :shuffle: . . . But there is always risk with going where few have gone before. I am, however, heartened that she did spend time not long ago with Mishin, who has some of the most recent experience with successful female 3As as a coach and hopefully Mao, as no longer her competitor, will offer some encouraging advice. It would be cool if she got some time with Yamada and Rawlinson and Teachman . . . Yeah, that's too much . . . I just want to see Mirai succeed because she worked so hard after realizing talent is not everything.

(Wow . . . didn't I go on and on )

Mirai landed a 3A(2ft) in her EX program and got a big reaction from the audience yesterday (on the first day of THE ICE).:) Shame Fuji TV didn't air her program. That said one of the most popular parts of the show - a collaboration program with Mao & Jefferey which was to Madama Butterfly this year was not aired either. So whatever.
Happy she was greatly appreciated! Have fun in Japan, Mirai. :cheer2:

I knew it! I knew if she did shows in Japan, she'd put a 3A in them!thats why her first jump in her new Ex was a 2A!

Sadly they won't air this for a while.

Thank you for coming out of retirement to end our breathless suspense, rosewood dear. Great news about Mirai and I cant wait to see the Mao-Jeff duet either. I watched Mao's solos that were posted here earlier today. Beautiful, beautiful. I cried and cried over the Wind beneath my wings piece (as did she). Too bad it seems her knee is still bothering her but maybe it too worked hard and deserves a rest. I hope all is well with you and your family, and your garden. :)

I am sure we are sending Ashley to the Olympics if she's healthy and well. Mirai is the only other skater i REALLY want to go. If she gets a tattoo, the word Triumphant or the phrase " Don't Stop Believing" would all be great. Her story and how she has reclaimed her career ( in my Maxine Waters Voice) prove her steadfast character and got back to the heart of who she is as an athlete are some of my favorite things and fond memories of the sport. I have always been a fan but thought that in her younger years she was a bit of a brat. I think she drove Frank insane because she talked back, she had a sometimes opposite of positive disposition but had immense potential.

I remember hearing reports of her trying out coaches left and right. She had a lull in her progress but it seems like overall, Tom Z is working for her. To learn the Axel at this point of her career are wonderful. I hope that she increases her cardiovascular fitness as well as her mental toughness in order to incorporate it consistently in her beautiful Jeff B. programs. I also love that Tom Z. was honest with Ted Flett about Mirai's programs last year having no transitions. I'm really cheering for her.

I was under the impression that things came too easy for Mirai. She kind of might not have known what hard work was, so she trained but did not train enough to get the consistency Frank wanted. Frank is notorious for wanting double run-throughs ... Then she would come off the ice looking pathetic and ashamed during competitions because it did not just magically happen every time like it did at some events. Goodness, she still placed 4th at the Olympics! (Remember Frank ridiculously coaching her to smile in the Kiss 'n Cry at some events, which was oddly hilarious.)

Mirai is 1 of 4 skaters Frank significantly developed that were 4th at the Olympics, and all were so talented that it probably came too easy.

Tom Z is really good with the tangible things that go into developing a skater, like if there are 365 days to the next worlds then he will have a training plan for 365 days, including 301 in the rink. Mirai has commented multiple times that the notebook he creates with a training plan was a real eye opener to her, and Tom told her directly that he would not accept her unless she was going to train like a developing athlete, not a waning aging athlete.

Anyway, I am so happy for her. I hope she is proud of her work. I hope she trains and competes like a champion for the rest of her career. I want her to be the one that fought and did not let her talent slip away, but instead became everything she ever wanted through hard work :respec:

I think it's all speculation on Mirai's relationship with Frank. People tend to forget that the reason she split from him was because he moved to Palm Springs and she didn't want to move there (or her parents didn't want her to). The commute was too long from LA.

This, the move to Palm Springs, is clearly the specific reason for the "split", as in the ending of the coaching relationship, as opposed to why she is doing so much better now in terms of development.

Mirai's change of coaching from Frank was much more agreeable than others have been.

This was a great read!

You may be right. I do actually remember her bizarre reaction at the Olympics.

You are also right about Frank's contribution to her career. I cannot speak to this point but I don't know how vested Frank is in his skater's off ice conditioning. He is pretty old school in that skaters do their training ON the ice. Still, Mirai was so conditioned, focused and precise under Frank. Also, every facet of her skating was polished. Frank had his way about him that was likely unbearable for some but man if he didn't make sure his skaters were ready. The change in skaters he acquired was usually seen right away.

Tom made it his business to work on Nagasu's jumps and you can tell. I still think that Tom is at a loss though without having an eye for developing the artistic side of his skaters. That is why Mirai could detach herself from her programs and just focus on the jumps. It's one or the other. Mirai came to Tom with abilities that were somewhat innate but developed. That development halted. One step is hiring Jeff to do the programs. Next I believe is stretching herself artistically. Tom is somewhat like Igor at the moment in that Igor teaches great dance and skills but the ability to create and be innovative and package a skater is missing.

I miss Frank and John Nicks honestly.
