News & fluff via social media (figure skating focus)

Ilia & Amber out & about in Milan today, Feb. 1st (photos by Damon Allen):

Chock/Bates yesterday (all 16 figure skaters/ice dancers of Team USA are in Milan now):
“Let the pin trading begin!”:

Glimpses of Christina’s first 2 exciting days in the Village & Bergamo:

Emilea’s highlights so far (includes a brief clip from their R&J FD in Bergamo at the end):

USFS has some cute Olympic memes of the U.S. skaters. Anthony looks good in glasses, but I almost didn't recognize him at first.

Just wish they wouldn`t slap US flags over everything. Alsoi, tired of red/white etc.
Yes, heaven forbid any country should slap their flags all over over their Olympics team kit. Or stick with their globally recognized national colors. Should we also demand that Australia stop using green & yellow as their main color template for all of THEIR Olympic gear?

Because, really, the highlighter yellow & orange that Germany used last time around was so restful on the eyes.

Don't get me wrong, personally, I think that Ralph Lauren could do with a massive refresh & new approach to the Team USA kit, but neither the flags nor the color palette are the biggest problem with the overall look.

Also, Mongolia has the BEST opening ceremony outfits.

Madi's brought back the red lining for her FD skirt!

So this isn't great news:

Deanna injured....

You make good points. Many use their national colors or flag (though I can`think of one right off). What`s the difference with the US? The US look doesn`t say we`d like to do well; may the best team win. There are so many US athletes and the outfits have USA stamped all over them. It`s projecting domination not winning. Remember when they used to shout U-S-A? Or in 2014 the Russians screaming Ad-e-lin-a while the Kim waited her scores. I don`t think it looks good. After 20 years out of the US (and under current circumstance) I`ve begun to see us as others see us.

Olivia Smart training for flagbearing duty

BTW why are there two different Olympic-related social media threads?

Do you mean the one in the Trash Can? Some FSUers don't have access to the Kiss & Cry so that one (started a while ago for Olympics promos/ads https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/2026-olympic-social-media-ads.113010/) is for them to post in.

Emily Chan's latest reel featuring Spencer:

Adam Rippon is in Milan for NBC Olympics' SportsDesk and will be filming a costumes segment (so he brought 2 of his 2018 Olympics costumes & skates with him):

Donovan Carillo is ready for his second Olympic Games :)

What's in Loena's bag?

Also, Mongolia has the BEST opening ceremony outfits.
That's better than the Heated Rivalry fleece!!!

I think that’s a good choice. The red lining wasn’t the issue with the original skirt.

I do wish the bodice had changed. The overall shape and look still isn’t working for me.

This sounds like a personal bias on your part. There is nothing about the US team kit that says “projecting domination” any more than Sweden’s kit being all blue and yellow with the Swedish flag. You’ve just decided to have a double standard and are insisting that bias is fact.

It’s perfectly reasonable to be uncomfortable with the current US posture in the world, but that doesn’t mean that it’s fact that wearing the American flag at the Olympics is different than wearing any other flag.

You say you can’t think of another team whose Olympic wear is mostly their colors and flag. Can you name one that isn’t???

Canada  I was a bit confused by some of the choices until I read the "inspiration" behind the concept.

Christina, Isabeau, and Hannah Lim enjoying what Christina declares to be the best dessert in the village (also Christina in the comments says Scott has her dresses and everything is good)

For those who didn't get the chocolate muffin reference it was a thing at the Paris Olympics started by this guy and his love story with the chocolate muffins in the cafeteria :

Exactly. Where is the objection to other large delegations wearing their national colors & flags on their uniforms? Germany always has a HUGE Winter Olympics team; China usually has a large team for the Summer Olympics. Is there a problem with either country sporting red & gold all over their team kit? Surely it must be just as overwhelming to see all those German and Chinese athletes projecting just as much "domination" as the USA does with its equally large teams at every Olympics.

So, who are you referring to here? Fans shouting something from the stands or the athletes themselves? The team kits don't control how the fans behave.

And, honestly, I'm not sure how this is any different than fans of a specific sports team doing obnoxious things that have somehow caught on when a team is on a winning streak (like the Atlanta Braves' fans doing that ridiculous Tomahawk Chop back in the '90s). It just so happens that, for the Olympics & other similar global sports competitions/tournaments, the teams are countries, so people shout "U-S-A" or "Ross-i-ya" or whatever.

Um, if you say so.

I think the USA team outfits say: our designer is boring and living in the 90s myself. 🤷‍♀️

The sports director from our local NBC affiliate in New Orleans met Madi and Evan and got to see the Stella and Henry pins 😊😊
